First off, Darius Jackson eats Ogundeko's lunch.
Second, I miss Casey Dunn already. NFLDraftScouts has him at 22, one spot behind Kuhnert.
Third, five guys in the positional top 50.

Sorry but NFLdraftscout is a joke. Cmon Kyle Lauletta behind Streveler. Streveler isn't going to the NFL as a QB. He might make it as an athlete.
I might sound like a broken record but Kyle is the best pro prospect at QB in the fcs.

One of the things I love about the pre-draft process is watching the rise and sorting of fcs players. Scouts are usually pretty good a finding the true prospects these days. Can't wait to see which fcs qbs get drafted (if any).

Having gone thru this process with Wentz and generally following the draft I've kind of sorted out the posers and the guys who are dialed in.
NFLdraftscout is a poser although I would give Briscoe the #2 best FCS QB prospect.
SCFF who posts here occasionally is about as dialed in as anyone. I know he put together some stuff on small school guys in the Phil Steele preview magazine.

Based on what I saw on film and have been hearing from NFL teams, the top FCS senior QB prospect is Kincade of Grambling State. I know he is just 6'0 but he has the arm strength and athletic ability that show why a lot of P5 teams wanted him out of high school. I would put the SDSU, Richmond, Sam Houston State, South Dakota, and a few other QBs behind him as possible free agents. I like Lauletta a lot except I think his arm strength needs to improve. If he had the arm of Kincade he would definitely be the top guy in the eyes of NFL teams.
Briscoe is pretty good but considered more of a camp body arm right now.

The Tenn State DE was playing hurt last year. I thought Jackson was better in 2016 but Ogundeko was in 2015. 2017 will truly tell as long as both are healthy. I put a 7th round grade on Ogundeko and high PFA grade on Jackson as of this summer.

For the OL they are way off. Parris of Stony Brook and the NCAT OT are both considered drafted or high PFA type players over those mentioned. Some scouts also like the Fordham OT Coyle as well. I am told the NFL Combine gave him a late round grade but I graded him as a second tier free agent.
OT Phillips from Idaho State is another player I would mention.
The fact the Illinois State and Weber State corners are missing are major snubs. Rolle of Villanova is another one who has a lot of NFL interest. I also think the Samford CB should have been listed.
SLU has a transfer DE/LB who is getting a lot of love from teams as well.
EWU, SDSU, and NDSU all have a DT worthy of mention.
They are mainly copying NFL Draft Scout and see NFL Draft Scout knows that many media websites do this so they are holding back. They tend to sandbag big time. Their rankings will change heavily during July and they won't put out their preseason rankings until around mid August, just before the season starts. You will start to see many of the names I'm bringing up right now bolt up their board in the next 6-7 weeks.

I will admit I haven't seen the Grambling QB yet, so best in the FCS is kind of my best I've seen in the FCS. I'll have to give him a watch tho, because you're not the first person that has brought up his name that I have saw. I'll have to re watch some Lauletta tape as well because I didn't see any arm strength concerns before.
BTW, the SDSU QB is only a junior.

I think Weineke should be even higher. He's impressed me every bit as much as Cooper Kupp did and he seems to be a bit more athletic. I'd like to see how Taryn does his senior year when Weineke and Goehdart head off to the NFL. I've been a fan of the kid ever since NDSU was trying to recruit him, just not sure if it's NFL level yet.
Also, on Tre Dempsey, I like him a lot as a player, but he is so small. Is that a concern? Are NFL people thinking more a move to CB? I just can't see him playing safety in the NFL.

I'm not sure Jake runs better than Kupp. I could see him rise to the 4th or 5th range unless he runs a 4.55 or better and then the 3rd is possible. He is not as good as Goedert.
Tre is probably a CB because he runs pretty well but you know white CBs typically switch to safety and they don't really move safeties to corner. I think he is a solid PFA right now. I would not put him in the draft now though.

Pretty racist statement up there. I don't think the NFL would like you putting those words in their mouth.

I wasn't thinking much faster, but two inches taller, bigger wing span over Kupp.

I don't believe there is currently one in the NFL now and I constantly hear teams say they project white corners to safety. I personally have had to move players from CB to S in my rankings because NFL teams were adamant about safety projection and I did not want to be wrong because I knew the player was being forced to move. I don't agree with it but it is what it is.
In general you start a player at corner and then move them to safety anyway. You won't see a safety in college moved to corner for the next level very often.

They certainly will. I could see it go either way. I know some scouts like one while some others like the other one better. It should be a fun race to the 2017 OVC DEF POY award.

Here are my top 20 for both the Payton and Buchanan awards right now. Outside of my top 5 for the Buchanan I would say keep an eye on Taylor and Basile. Both are in prime positions to have a lot of tackles and are by far the best players on both their teams' defenses.

Kailik Williams is a notable snub from this list. SoCon Defensive Player of the Year 2016.
I put him on the second tier group. From watching him and the Samford CB I thought the Samford CB was better. Remember that it is harder for a CB to win a player of the year award because they typically don't put up the tackles because they are on an island and if they are really good they don't get thrown on as much in their final year.
Williams was more active in run support and making stops behind the line of scrimmage because of his role but Williams was the better ballhawk and outplayed him in pass coverage.
To be fair, I really like both and believe either one is worthy. I just went with the 6'1 CB who runs pretty well and doesn't get torched in my top 20. Williams, Holuba, Ankrah, Dolan, and Dempsey were my top 5 defensive snubs.
Gangtackle11

I think you will be adding either Ed Shockley or Jeff Steeb (both LBs & returning leading tacklers) to your list. Villanova will miss some key players, but still will be a very tough defensive team that spills plays to their backers.

I have put their class for the 2018 season next to their names.

I think you will be adding either Ed Shockley or Jeff Steeb (both LBs & returning leading tacklers) to your list. Villanova will miss some key players, but still will be a very tough defensive team that spills plays to their backers.
This LB class is very loaded. I have Steeb on my early list for 2018 but I don't see who I could put either of those over for the top 20 in 2017. Both are pretty good.

Hopefully Bragalone can produce next year. The biggest question mark with him will be a rebuilt OL.

Let it play out. LBs from Montana State & Houston Baptist must be unbelievable because their respective teams aren't projected to be. I forgot Steeb was a redshirt & 2018.
#1 FCS defense in 2016 in a top conference is all I need to know that they are deserving preseason candidates, but to each his own.
LB Charles Bell at Delaware is right there. He's better than Reeder if you watched their games. Just didn't transfer in from Penn State with that hype.

Reeder will be a senior in 2018 but Bell will be gone so that is why I don't have Bell on the list for next year. For this year I would not put either of them in my top 20 or the Buchanan Award.

As for how I have them rated here are my preseason All-CAA LBs. I have Bell as the DEF POY ahead of Reeder. Nobody from the CAA was dominant who returns from last year except Rolle and I have Rolle on the Buchanan list but decided against him for DEF POY since safeties don't usually win it but Bell should have good production.
I almost moved Bell up the list ahead of the SEMO LB but he is a big, long, and fast guy who has a lot of upside and I would rather take him after seeing the flashes of pass rush and range he showed on tape.

Maybe P.J. Hall. The list is very short, that is for sure. Or did you mean just receivers? If so, none.

I'm clearly biased but as a Cal Poly fan Ive seen some great runners come through San Luis Obispo over that past 10 or so years and without question Joe Protheroe is the best FB we have ever had in that time. FB isn't the sexiest position in terms of Payton Awards but his size, durability, skills and speed seem to suggest that he may be a bit too far down this list. If he stays healthy he will get a shot in the NFL. I don think there is a comparable runner in the FCS...he is a tank.

I think the more pro scouts look at P.J. Hall's physical skills, he will move up draft boards. This Hudl vid has a lot of highlights, but go to 2:08 to see Hall run down a JSU RB from behind. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/2739254/5792e734eae10c43e0023569

He is really good and I have him as a PFA right now but I know there were times he disappeared last year. I watched 2 games and I talked to some scouts who watched 3 games that I did not watch. They said the same thing. He has flashes of a really good player and then disappears at times. I know they watched 1-2 games that he didn't have much sack/TFL production at all.

I could see that. I have thought he was an interesting player. Do you guys have a Levin or Tull type player this year? I am thinking you will probably not see a player drafted in 2018 but might again in 2019 or 2020.

I'll take a look at him this fall. There will definitely be someone who is not rated highly by the NFL who has a big year and ends up getting drafted or making it as a free agent from the SoCon. There always seems to be one.

Gates is the one who teams like. He is long and has size. Denmark is a really good FCS player but has poor length, not overly fast or explosive, and is just 6'0 1/8, 230 pounds.

Take a look at Kincade because he is very solid. I know the SDSU guy is but thought I would mention him since he is so productive and on the radar of teams. They will scout him some while looking at the WR and TE. If he has the arm and dominates he will get a monster grade next year because people will be looking at him so much. The TE is a 3rd-4th round projection and the WR is a 5th-7th right now.
Here is my complete list of FCS players getting looks right now.
