UNI wins simply because these are freshman that are coming in....Imagine they'll be like 380 of pure muscle in five years. Bow to your new overloads of the OL.

Keeler's priority is to recruit within a 3.5 hour driving distance from Huntsville. If we do get out of state kids, it is usually from Oklahoma.

Y'all can keep your big, fat, slow, and out of shape boys and we will keep winning with 250-270lb men who are quick and lethal.

:( Yes sir. I noted that w/ last fall's roster and the roster before that and the roster before that (Fritz's protege's).

I'm almost speechless as I look @ PV's roster. It's changed dramatically lately and most of that is due to the new football venue (local-type recruiting). :(

Agree here. Very few guys should be over 300, and nobody should be over 330 or so. 350 plus is just being a fat slob.

My understanding is that a lot of Furman's linemen will be asked to drop some weight.

Just for reference, Air Force Academy's offensive line (at least in their bowl game) went 6'4 275, 6'3 280, 6'2 280, 6'2 288, and 6'4 290. Clearly not big enough to run the ball.

The AFA offense was 11th nationally in TOP, 4th in rushing, 14th in pass efficiency, 39th in total offense (451+ per game), etc. That is, they have a pretty solid offense. I also don't want to hear that they are "just an option offense" either. They threw the ball for 257 against Navy, 280 against New Mexico, and averaged over 23 yards a completion.

In this year's FBS National Championship Game, Clemson's OL 2-Deep averaged 6-3.8 315 and Alabama's OL 2-Deep averaged 6-4.8 308.

So, at almost 6-6 328 Samford is most definitely out-recruiting the 2 best college football teams in the country for OL talent. I mean, they must be, right? Obviously Alabama and Clemson would much rather have those Sammy behemoths than the little pee-dabs they have playing for them now. It's just common sense...or...

Why stop there?

The Atlanta Falcons, who just put together one of the best offensive seasons in NFL history, have 1 offensive lineman that is over 6'6. They have only 2 offensive linemen that are over 310 pounds.

It really depends on the type of offense you run. I can see why many MVFC teams want the big olines, comes with the recruiting territory too. An offense like UNH, and similar to what Citdog stated, needs guys that are lighter and quicker. UNH often recruits HS tight ends and beefs them up just a bit to play them at tackle. Pretty rare for a UNH olineman to be over 300.

Our spring roster hasn't been updated yet. Will be interesting year for NDSU with 3 new starters on the oline. Not too worried as we churn out the big uglies like no other.

Pretty rare for a UNH olineman to be over 300.

I think it is quite relative and largely system based. Many offensive linemen at the D1 level are artificially big. No question, they are big men, but a guy that is a natural 250 pound person may play football at over 300. So, the same guy playing for the Citadel or Samford may vary drastically in weight.

This guy came to UNI as a tight end, and also on the basketball roster. He came in at about 240-250. He played 2 years at TE, made one of the best 1 handed catches I've ever seen. Then played 2 years at RT where he was twice an All American and has been a NFL starter for 7 or 8 years now. Came in at 250ish and left at 330

Thanks for the link. I will check that out. Probably true, on posting elsewhere. But I think its time the connection to FCS and the NFL needed some coverage. FCS is getting better every year and the talent level is there to play and compete at the next level. NFL teams seem to like the bigger schools, IMO for linemen, due to usually having a better behind the scenes programs for development. I think that gap is shrinking. I think its good to talk about what it takes to get to the NFL for our FCS guys. May never happen, but stranger things have happened.

This is about as small as the DL at UNI has been in a long, long time

Christian Perez 6'1 235 Jr.
Desmond Chapple 6'5 237 R-Fr.
Preston Woods 6'1 275 Sr.
Brawntae Wells 6'1 258 R-Fr.
Hezekiah Applegate 6'2 285 So.
Sonny Onken 6'3 250 R-Fr.
Seth Thomas 6'6 251 So.
Marcel Minniefield 6'2 295 So.
Bryce Douglas 6'1 291 Jr.
Adam Reth 6'4 273 Sr.
Jared Brinkman 6'1 280 Fr.

Average 6'2.5 270

Likely starters
Preston Woods 6'1 275
Hezekiah Applegate 6'2 285
Bryce Douglas 6'1 291 (he came in at 335 2 years ago)
Adam Reth 6'4 273

I'd expect Desmond Chapple, Sonny Onken and potentially Jared Brinkman (if he doesn't RS) to play a decent amout

Agree here. Very few guys should be over 300, and nobody should be over 330 or so. 350 plus is just being a fat slob.

This is one of NDSU's recruits. He's listed at 355 and rumor is he may be 365. Not to sure too many 275 pound linemen could make that sitting box jump:

Good for him, but he would still be better off shedding 20 pounds. He is more than large enough right now.
