excited about this guy. Coaching change at UT may have given us a diamond in the rough. Saw more out of him at practice today. He didn't get to campus until just before camp so he initially looked out of shape. If he keeps his head on straight he could be a game changer

It's a damn good look at what's really going on with your program when you pick up transfers like Ty Barrett (TCU) and Zack Kinninger (Fresno State) and they end up as backups behind your recruits. And all that talk about how the transfers hurt recruiting. lol. I'd rather have a mindset among the recruits that they had better sell out and work in order to play then an entitled mindset that everything is owed to them because they got scholly offers.

First, I had 7-8 too many cocktails. So i couldn't hear or see anything outside of a 3" circle around me. Second, i've stated all along that that incident lead to WF bolting. But i will never claim responsibility. I was a walking cadaver and you jedi mind effed me. You have no morals. ...and i would have it no other way.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DHD0ur0UMAAD6qd.jpg:large

- 110-degree heat index
- 98 plays (1.5 hours)
- 1st and 2nd Teams
- Six starters held out
- QB Jake Blumrick (So.) was running the first team offense
- RB Kiajana Amous (Sr.) and Josh McGowen (R/Fr.) took reps with the first team offense while Juan Day (Jr.) and Jamall Shaw (So.) were with the second team.
- QB Ryan Cottingame (Jr.) ran the second team.
- Defense caused two fumbles
- WR Cody Williams (So.) and WR Frank Iheanacho (Jr.) scored TDs. Williams at 50-yards and Iheanacho from a 25 yard strike both from Blumrick. WR Terian Goree (Jr.) also saw action.
- RB Josh McGowen scored from 16 yards out in the second half.
- QB Jake Blumrick is an escape artist and could have scored multiple times, but plays were blown dead due to no contact on QB.
- Defense made some good stops in the red zone.
- WR #88 Dylan Parker 6-4; 190 is impressing the staff enough to play as a true freshman come game time.
- Offensive line needs lots of work, too many breakdowns in coverage.
- Got to work on the penalties.
- Lumberjacks back at work Sunday night at 7:30 and then will be off Monday.

Sam Houston. Ford 150. Tough, durable & has dominated the market for awhile now.

SFA. Jaguar. Looks great on the show room floor. Breaks down two blocks from the dealership.

UCA: Mustang. Pin stripe. Fast. Tough. Slow to start but picks up speed.

HBU: Pinto: Small. Fast. Once hit from behind it blows up.

McNeese: Caddilac. Rich tradition. Strong engine. Curb feelers. Upholstery smells like cajun food. Trunk drags from sandbags weights.

SLU- Dodge. Starts out strong, loses power though.

Lamar: Prototype- Never makes it to the showroom floor.

NWST- Gremlin. Made of metal but poor gas mileage.

UIW- Accord. Reliable. Safe. Nothing fancy.

ACU: Ford Edsel. Innovative ideas but mediocre performance . Could be retooled later into a better product.

ACU: Tesla. Super expensive and flashy but it's batteries run down by halftime. Upgrades coming.

“There’s not much else to be said about what P.J. has done here,” Bearkat defensive line coach Rod Wright said. “He is so explosive and does not get fooled by what blockers are doing. He recognizes blocks well, and is going to be a tough for anyone whether he is playing inside or outside.”
His exploits have garnered him plenty of accolades in his three years, including being named the 2016 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the year and to multiple all-America teams. He is also on the preseason watch list for the Buck Buchanan Award, an honor given to the top defensive player in all of FCS, after finishing second in the voting for the award a year ago.

More facts about PJ Hall that those outside of the SLC are not aware of:

1. PJ Hall has a diary, it's called the Guinness Book of World Records
2. In the offseason, PJ Hall trains by going up Niagra Falls in a cardboard box.
3. PJ Hall has never committed a penalty, they officials are just trying to throw in the towel for his blocker

Keep this thread alive till the last possible moment. The preseason is really the only time some of us can be irrationally exuberant about our team. Cold, harsh reality will kick us in the teeth soon enough but for now we are undefeated & we can brag about the turn around of our team because of the the new assistant coaches & transfers we brought in or because our guys have another year of experience. This is our Lake Wobegon moment. We are all above average. Please don't take our illusions away just yet.

O-line was very good already, now add an NFL caliber piece to the mix, to go along with a strong stable of running backs, plus Lorenzo Nunez at QB ... gonna be fun to watch.

3. A history of winning.

5 years? ACU will be in the top half of the conference next year. We struck paydirt by hiring Adam Dorrel. We will go from 2 wins last year to 4 or 5 this year year and a winning season in 2018. I am a little biased, I admit. But I see progress being made in virtually every phase of the game in practice.

Um getting to the top half of the conference in the SLC isn't an accomplishment.

Let's see how a podunk town that lies in between Toad Suck and Wolly Hollow Arkansas has done since joining with its 8000 seat stadium, no grass roots support, and no budget:

2007: 2nd (not playoff eligible)
2008: 1st (not playoff eligible, not conference title eligible )
2009: 5th (not playoff eligible, not conference title eligible. Lost games by an average of 3 points. )
.................................................. .................................................. ...................
2010: 3rd (playoff eligible, conference title eligible )
2011: 2nd
2012: 1st
2013: 3rd
2014: 3rd
2015: 2nd
2016: 2nd

That's an average of second place (2.4) Now if we count only the FCS playoff eligible years it increases to 2.28...

I'm not sure what to expect from ACU now they are fully eligible. They have nicer facilities than most of the SLC. I've heard they have money too.
Looking at their past schedules I see they didn't start playing a full DI slate until 2014. Even played IUW twice in 2013.

2014: 6-6
2015: 3-8
2016: 2-9

What's the recruiting ground like?

Wildcat1997
August 24th, 2017, 02:51 PM
Well it's Texas so the recruiting area is great. In the immediate area we'll have 6 or 7 players go D1 every year. In the past we've lost out on a lot of talented local players because the old staff didn't want to recruit Abilene for whatever reason, but Dorrel wants to recruit locally more.

From Houston Baptist:

Harvey Update: 9:30 p.m. August 27th 2017,
As weather conditions across the region continue to deteriorate, Houston Baptist University will be canceling classes and activities through Labor Day, September 4, 2017. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. This decision is made in order to allow our faculty, students and staff, as well as their families, enough time to address any concerns at home before beginning the school year. We ask that you keep HBU and the greater Houston community in your thoughts and prayers. At this time, we are not planning to evacuate any residents on campus.
NCAA team members are directed to contact their coaching staff for further information about practices and games.

Looks like Harvey is going to take a similar route as Cindy when it makes landfall again tomorrow.

In other news, Nicholls is still planning on the game being on Thursday instead of moving the game to Saturday when the weather in Thibodaux might be a little better.

Talent is not SFA's problem. They need a coach that can do something with it.
