Apparently the game is part of a "Football at Fenway" Showcase. Maine v. UMass and BC v. UConn also scheduled to play at Fenway.

It's a nice change but the football sightlines at Fenway are mostly awful....I'd rather tailgate/go to a college football game in Providence or Hanover than Kenmore Square. but that's me.

Good idea. With the overflow crowds this game usually gets an off campus site was certainly needed. :D

Just kidding, good move for everyone involved.

Lehigh-Lafayette sold out Yankee Stadium.

Just saying. :)

I have never been to a football game at Fenway, but I have no doubt that you're correct.

These games aren't scheduled for the 17 diehard fans of these schools who live and die on the result of every play. They are for the thousands and thousands of alumni who say "that's nice" when they hear the football team is playing well and then go on with their lives. For UMaine, I would guess that there will be 5-10,000 Boston based alums who haven't thought about going to a game since they lived in the dorms who will go, and the University will gladly get their updated contact information to send out donation solicitations.

The big hockey fans always complain about losing home games or whatever to Frozen Fenway and not being able to see the puck, but the 20/30/40 something young alumni living in Boston turn out in droves because it is something big and interesting featuring UMaine.

i don't disagree.... as I said, it's a nice change of pace etc....HC-Fordham at Yankee Stadium this past year accomplished this as well.

I think this is generally correct. But as a caveat, only 6,000 showed up at Giants Stadium for the Dartmouth-Columbia game in 1983.

Hopefully we will see three sellouts (or close to them) this November.

Not buying the bad sight lines for football at Fenway, see the picture below from 2015 BC-Notre Dame. Upper Box seats and roof box on first base would be awesome as well as right field bleachers. Have been to Fenway for hockey and would agree sightlines suck but for football this should be awesome. Beating UMass at Fenway will be better than beating them at Gillette!!!xlolx

Notre Dame was the home team for a game against BC in Boston?

The right field seats might have better sightlines for football than baseball, but the third-base side and Monster seats must be a long way from the field, unless they put in temporary bleachers like when the Patriots played there in the sixties.

Holy Cross and BC played one another at Fenway for much of the 1930s-1950s.....from what I heard from people who attended those games (older family membahs, older alumni of both schools), it wasn't a great place to actually watch a game. It may have improved with some of the renovations at Fenway but in general much of the seating is much the same in 2017 as it was in 1947.

Fenway works great for this sort of thing since the baseball field is smashed a bit to begin with, so it lends itself to a rectangle field. Definitely some great sight lines. It would be interesting if they could create a fan zone area or something in the left field open area. Would be terrible to see the game there, but again this game is not always for the die hard fan, and would be a fun pre-game things or something. I'm sure there's some rule about limiting who can go on the field, but would be fun if it could be worked out.

Those wood bleachers used for Patriots games were moved to Dacotah Field at NDSU and later moved to the track and field stadium at NDSU.

I'm going to lay the over-under on attendance for the Brown-Dartmouth game at 20,000. Should be the largest crowd for an Ivy game in the I-AA/FCS era that didn't involve Harvard or Yale since Princeton Stadium opened.

I hope you're right, but give me the under. Ivy League attendance never fails to disappoint.

No argument here. At least none since the 1970s.

No argument here. At least none since the 1970s.

Dartmouth v. Yale in the Bowl in 1970. Attendance: 61,000.

Again in 1970, Brown was only team to score a TD against the first team D of Dartmouth. No FG's scored against Dartmouth in 1970.

Many of the 1970 players, especially seniors and juniors, will be at the Ivy football dinner in NYC next week. Organized by co-caption and all-American Murry Bowden, who is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. At an earlier team lunch that day at the 21 Club, we've invited Ed Marinaro, Cornell '72. Trying to make him feel included even though Dartmouth was the only Ivy team he didn't beat in his career at Cornell.

See link to Ivy dinner, including this year's honorees. https://www.ivyfootballassociation.org/home

Excellent! Don't know how I missed this before. I assume Dartmouth will be the home team due to the "Green Monster"?
