Am I the only one shocked that Edmonds didn't win OPOY?!?! He leads the country in rushing! Shafnisky was great but he basically missed 3 games and did start off slow against Monmouth and Villanova.

Agree to some degree. However, the thinking may have been that Shafnisky was more of a multiple weapon with both his arm and feet. DC's went nuts trying to defend him. He turned many plays that were designed for losses into big gains. The yards that he "had his hand in", i.e. running, passing and tds is significant. I think he missed only two games. Keep in mind, also, that his yards would have been another 30-40% more if he had played all four quarters in many of the games and the team had not just run out the clock on the ground. Lehigh's offensive numbers are approaching all time records at the school, and would have surpassed had Coen kept his foot on the pedal.

Coen really deserves this award. He brought this team back from the ashes of Yankee Stadium two years ago to a nice summit. This, after a rough 0-2 start. Plus the fact that he did not embarrass anyone during this rampage doesn't hurt.

Yes. Some combo of "familiarity breeds contempt" and "to the victors go the spoils". While clearly not contempt, Edmonds was amazing this past season and was clearly the best player in the league and, arguably, one of the best in the country. I think he was just held to a different standard. That said, Shafnisky had an amazing year and Lehigh is having an amazing season so there's no travesty here, just surprise

It probably is "to the victors" syndrome, as when you have two great talents, you go down the list of stats and measurables, and compare. If those were considered close, one thing is simple to separate them: Nick led his team to title, pasted Fordham this year, while Chase was not a huge factor in the game at LU.

Shafnisky is also a QB, and that's always the default, isn't it?

What a joke! Chase Edmonds not the Offensive Player of the Year is ridiculous. Who votes for this? How does Chase stand in the Electoral College?
