2016 AGS Bracket Challenge


Let's get the sign up rolling. You simply reply with "I'm in" and we'll make you a bracket. Try to limit the discussion in here because I need to comb it for those entering the contest.


Scoring
Official scoring process:
Each correct pick in a given round will be given the following points:
1st Round - 15
2nd Round - 15
Quarterfinals - 30
Semifinals - 50
Finals - 100


The scores will be used for deductions or bonuses from each total. If an exact score is guessed, there will be a ten point bonus added. There will be a tenth of a point deduction for each point a prediction for each separate team is off the actual score for that given team. This is not how many points your combined score was off the real combined score. For example, joe picked A over B 27-14. The final score was A winning 24-17. The combined scores were both 41, but joe was 3 off A's final score and 3 off B's final score. Therefore, .6 will be deducted from his points for that round. If B had won that game, joe simply would not have gotten points for that respective game.


First round scoring example:
A over B - 27-14
A beat B 24-17 15 points for the win minus .6 = 14.4
C over D - 31-10
C beat D 24-10 15 points for the win minus .7 = 14.3
E over F - 14-7
F beat E 17-14 no points awarded for loss
G over H - 24-21
G beat H 24-21 15 points for the win plus 10 for nailing the score = 25


14.4 + 14.3 + 0 + 25 = 53.7 for Round one.






I have multiple things going on right now, so don't expect to get your brackets within the minute after you sign up, but we'll get them out to you quickly.


Is there swag you ask? There will be a $100 gift card and some sort of banner handed down to the winner.




The deadline will be sometime late Friday evening or even possibly Saturday morning before the first game starts as I should be able to keep it open as late as possible.


This is the big official AGS challenge. The last few seasons we have had over 100 participate. (2013 - 101, 2014 - 130, 2015 - 109) Let's try and beat those totals this season!


There is a 10 post minimum to join the challenge. You can contact ursus for an exception and if he says good to go then you will be admitted.


Reminder:
When you get your bracket, you need to finish the WHOLE thing, not just the first round. Also, make sure to include the SCORES for each game.

2016 AGS Bracket Challenge

It appears there's going to be a lot of people on this list this season. I'm usually a little more understanding than the big bear, but the ones that really bother me are those who have been online a lot the last couple days and have been getting my reminder messages. I understand that there are going to be some who sign up, then get to thanksgiving stuff and basically forget until it's too late mid-day Saturday. There are a couple people signed up who I think have done that. Then there are the people who every season only do the first round games and think that's all they need no matter how many times they've been told otherwise. However, the worst offenders are the ones who still roam around here each day after they've gotten a bracket and just say "meh, I didn't feel like filling one out."

We were actually approaching a record for total brackets completed, but instead we might set a record for highest amount of incomplete brackets. Just over an hour to finish your brackets. Get them in to avoid ursus the grizzly bear from turning into ursus the manbearpig.

If you click on your link and your bracket remains completed, then it was successfully submitted. One person tried to do just the first round, but the other dozen or so who are in the Unfinished brackets folder, simply left their bracket blank.

Yep, I got 5 wrong too and I follow FCS pretty close, my 7 year old granddaughter, picking solely on the team's nickname, only got three wrong.

But, the truth is, it doesn't matter a ton until the later rounds. Points are so much higher in the 3rd round on, you never know until you get deep.

Surprisingly enough, 3 brackets had San Diego winning. All three of them picked Lehigh, Illinois State, and had at least one other miss, though. The other surprising fact was that even though you could have gotten 7 out of 8 by simply picking every home team, only 4 people got 7 right. So, it's still a really close battle. It'll be a little bit before I get the scores up as I work a bunch this weekend, but the big leaderboard changes will come after the next two rounds. Also, I've only entered about 25% of the brackets, but a surprisingly low amount have NDSU as the champion, even among Bison fans. They're still the majority, but in the past 4 years, they've been much closer to 50% than they are right now. I guess that's more of a nod to how solid the top 6 was this season.
