What are the top 10 Teams in FCS paying their head coaches? IMO, if these teams want to remain in the top 10, they should all have equal salaries or face their coaches departing. We saw that last year with Houston leaving The Citadel for JMU.

Sean McDonnell's salary is listed at $255,600. Pretty good bargain for a two-time Eddie Robinson award winner. Coach Mac is not going anywhere, so the draw of a somewhat higher salary is not a factor. He's turned down at least two FBS offers in the past.

It should be a little bit higher now. Those numbers were for the 2014-2015 academic year. He is guaranteed a minimum 4% raise in his base salary (which isn't small peanuts - that's over $10k per year) and a ~$5k per year increase in his media appearance fees so his compensation was probably north of $380k last year and if he hits all those incentives again this year it'll probably push $400k.

as of 2016 lists Brock Spack at $324,000 with potential bonuses of up to $80-$90K. Page says $80K, the page reference in the link under his page shows $90K. Assuming that includes his Country Club membership and other perks.
Interesting that it shows Tuition remission for eligible family members. I had to work long and hard at an Illinois public university to get the same for my kid. He has a kid on the football program that he's likely paying 50% out of pocket
for his education to free up that extra scholarship.

Sometimes we forget that there are other revenue sources such as summer camps. In a metropolitan area such as Birmingham, a Samford coach is fortunate to be able to invite MANY participants. I believe that the HC can pretty much use those monies at his discretion, such as supplementing his staff. Of course the privates do not have to reveal any figures, so it is hard to garner any real information. I do know that Pat Sullivan was one of the top 10 in FCS when he was hired, but I don't think that Chris Hatcher's package is quite what Pat had.

With incentives I think he makes somewhere in the neighborhood of $290,000- 300,000. We are very lucky he hasn't bolted. Living expenses on the seacoast of New Hampshire are pretty high and his $290,000 is roughly the equivalent of NDSU's coach making $150,000.

Not sure. We need to find a way to get his salary to 300k or face another situation next year with the head coach leaving. We pay the basketball coach 200k.

Chattanooga's Russ Huesman $205,738. This is a base and doesn't include his camps or his tv show, or incentives for attendance or playoffs or...... Also his Son goes to Baylor ($30k/yr) and I'm not sure that isn't part of his package. I could see the total over $300k.

SC has specific pay ranges for coaches at public colleges. Going higher is often done by having the salary supplemented via a school's Athletic Foundation.

As a university Liberty made 22000% more profit last year compared to NDSU, they could easily pay a football coach 10 million a year.

Rightfully so, Liberty seems to be investing in assets/endowment. But at 770k it is peanuts when looked at in the context of their model.

That was definitely reported by the Manchester Union Leader a couple of years ago, but I thought I've read more recently that Prez Huddleston was the highest paid state employee. And that Coach Mac had also passed Coach Umile (Men's Ice Hockey Coach).

I noticed on person is listed three teams (4-6). I have no idea if that's a total salary or he gets that for each position held. I also believe UNI basketball coach, Ben Jacobson's, new deal will have him in at about 8 or 9 for FY16 (or 6-7 if that one guy listed 3 times is just one salary)

Most of the top 200 or so is University of Iowa professors and U of I hospital directors of some kinda. Very, very, very, few UNI or Iowa State employees on the list.

I went through the top 200 paid employees in the state of Iowa (200 was paid $328,417) and this was the general breakdown

182 belonged to the University of Iowa (and U of I hospitals and clinics)
14 belong to Iowa State University
3 belong to the University of Northern Iowa (BB coach #8, FB coach #149 , president #155 (no longer with school and replacement being hired now and will be the same pay). New AD is at $210K.
1 belongs to the Judicial Department


I know we argue about it elsewhere a couple times per year, but this is just proof that being an FCS school in a state with 3 million people and 2 major universities is an impossible life to live for many reasons and an advantage that places like Montana, Montana State, SDSU, NDSU, UND and USD will never truly understand they have.
