Lamar at Nicholls- Lamar is just too beat up. Colonels by 7.
UCA at SFA- Bears bring a solid D. SFA gives up massive yards and points per game. Bears by 21.
SLU at UIW- Lions bounce back for a 14 point win.
NWST at ACU- ACU wins by 3.
HBU at UTEP- UTEP by 14.
McNeese at SHSU- While I want a cowboy upset, Kats are playing solid ball. Kats by 28.

Kats are playing good ball but this is a revenge game for the cowboys. I expect it to be closer than that. I agree with pretty much everything else.

Bear, playoff eligibility is 7 wins, 6 division one wins. SFA technically is eligible. They wouldn't get an at large bid if they won out, but helping you for accuracy

While I don't doubt they want revenge, Sam resembles UCA this year in talent, and it wasn't close in Lake Charles. Unless Kat fans are hiding a secret.....xlolx

Yes technically 6 wins but even UCA had 7 DI wins last year and was left out because the SLC has to have extraordinary happenings in the other conferences to get 3 in. Kinda of out of our control. Although a couple of years ago we got 3 in two years in a row. So who knows. But this year it looks like 2 teams only.

There is no way we would score 80, even if we could and even if we did, we would give up 35.

The only other team that has a fan that posts here is Nicholls. Cover Sam, SFA, UCA, McNeese, ACU and Nicholls in your write-up and you are golden.

I mean no offense to Catatonic but NSULA vs ACU? A team with zero wins vs D1 competition vs a team with only one D1 win?

The good news here is that someone will win that game...

Dominated teams on the road by an average of 35 points. That's always a plus.

We could but Keeler wouldn't do it. I am just hoping we get to see the starters play a whole game soon. Most likely won't be against this McNeese team but probably for UCA, if not just for a playoff warm up. Could you imagine the numbers Briscoe could have put up if he played entire games?

Well done Rev. I know it was tough to pick against the Lumberjacks. Look UCA lost over 30 players last year. UCA fans were hoping for progress toward a title of ANY kind. None of us knew we had a coach that uses 8 rushers and 10 receivers a game. I cant think of one that will be all-conference except maybe Tre Smith. Yes there is talent but they are playing by committee. You will probably see a defense that lost two beasts last year one being Woodard, a defense that might have 8 guys with 5 tackles each instead of one guy with 12 tackles.

Interesting comment by Coach Conque on the SLC coaches show..."to be competitive against UCA".

He mentioned some players are gone and some are hurt.

But why didn't he say "to beat UCA" ?

Has he already thrown in the towel on this game? xeyebrowx

That sucks for SFA fans. CC caused trouble when he was here and we warned SFA fans he would screw up a good thing they had going. But we were labeled as jealous.

Sad thing is SFA can still beat UCA...probably won't...but still can.

Time for a new coach at SFA.

I didn't understand this hire in the first place. I think they could have done much better. The SLC is not a hard conference to be successful in. East Texas is within spitting distance of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.

2011: 6-5-0 J.C. Harper

Great question. But I think the chance of that disappears when we play you guys. I don't think we will win the game so that will ruin our chances of getting seeded. If you lose the game by chance, you probably won't get a seed with your SOS and the loss to UCA. UCA would get a low seed at 10-1 from the Southland. IMO.

It really would have helped both of us if UCA had beaten a team they lost to by 26 last year. We statistically dominated Samford but two stats stood out. Turnovers and final score. The committee might have looked at our loss and saw nearly 600 yards offense, 36 first downs to 11, held them to -25 yards rushing...but lost and the committee might have thought UCA lost that one NOT that Samford won it. But I give credit to Samford, they won it.

It was strange:

First downs: UCA 36 Samford 11
Rushing: UCA 231 Samford -25
Passing: UCA 346 Samford 282
Total yds: UCA 577 Samford 257
Punt return yards average: UCA 7 Samford -3.5
Time of possession: UCA 36:46 Samford 23:14
Turnovers: UCA 1 Fumble, 1 INT which led to 2 scores for Samford. Samford- 1 fumble led to 0 points for UCA.
Total number of plays: UCA 115 Samford 56

Final score: Samford 35 UCA 29.
If we hadn't fumbled or thrown ONE of those INTs it's a win. But if "Ifs and buts were fruits and nuts..we'd all have a Merry Christmas". xlolx

To be fair to Lamar:

On the programs they gave out, the starting quarterback was not on the 2 deep depth chart (he was on the actual roster, just not on the two deep). They either had him under center or they put WR#7 under center in wildcat plays. One drive they started at the Nicholls 5. The center snapped two consecutive balls poorly, resulting in -40 yards in two downs.

Nicholls was clearly ON but Lamar apparently had a lot of injuries.

At one point in the 4th, presnap, two Lamar guys just dropped. No idea what that was about. The TV commentators might have had insight that the crowd was not made privy.

I watched Lamar when they came to UCA. You are right, I watched 4 Lamar players walked off the field after injuries. They are a better team, just too beat up. No Harrington. QB was beat up. We dropped back into zone defense and they got some yardage. But overall it wasn't much of a game. Had they been healthy Lamar might be top 3 in our conference..maybe #2.

What if? A couple of teams ahead of you lose, we both win this week and next in impressive fashion. We play a really great game which you pull out with a field goal to win by 1 point. If we both go into the game ranked in the top 8 and play a great game, seems like there's a small chance it could happen but your right, probably want. It's just that with only 2 teams in, I hate to see us have to play in the second round.

This game with McNeese followed the exact same formula as every other game. Nothing new.

BUT...

This was the first game were the defense didn't just come out flat in the second, they got manhandled.

Now, i know keeler stated in the presser that that only had two active DB's the entire game due to injury and illness. Zero rest for a position built in rotation will have negative affects against a talented WR like Shelby and Batiste...

BUT

The middle of the defense did the worst job of tackling i've LITERALLY ever seen. I can handle the "pump the brakes" defense in the second half. But if they play like that again, it's going to be a quick playoffs

At the same time, this was our one legit bad game of the season, yet we never trailed, set school records and won by double digits vs a team that was ranked for 1/2 the year. We should get that corrected but who knows. maybe not.

At this point, we are a shootout or bust team imho.

At the same time, i'm really really glad that we got into a fight like that tonight with a game to go before UCA and playoffs. We needed a challenge and the Pokes finally gave us one. It makes me crazy, but that was a fun damn game.
