This is an odd story. Found it in the Greeley Tribue, courtesy of the Fresno Bee. I think it's more a knock on NoCo than it is anyone else...

If undefeated Boise State can't be champ, then it is time for the annual search for the real No. 1 team in America. The writers with votes have said Florida, but the Gators were not perfect, and so it is up for debate.
The trophy should go to the University of Northern Colorado.
"But wait," you might be saying, "aren't the Bears the I-AA team whose backup punter stabbed its starting punter in the leg and finished 1-10?"
First off, it's allegedly. The backup punter is charged with attempted first-degree murder, not convicted. But no, now that you mention it, they weren't perfect either.
They were winners, though, on Sept. 16, five days after the alleged stabbing, a game in which Northern Colorado was shut out in the second half, outgained 437 yards to 221, and still managed to beat Texas State 14-13. (In a strange twist, the eventual winning touchdown was scored on a blocked punt.)
The Texas State Bobcats, whom many of us in "the know" were calling "underrated," went on to beat Sam Houston State, which in turn beat Missouri State, which beat Western Illinois, which beat Northern Iowa, which beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
