Yale has announced that it will play a two game series against The University of Richmond. They will play at Richmond in 2019 and in New Haven in 2020.

Great series, and good job by Yale.

Hopefully their peers in Cambridge will follow suit.

One less Patriot League out-of-conference game for Yale.

Perhaps so but a good job by Yale in getting involved in National FCS field.

True, but this one is against a very strong FCS program - unlike what Princeton and Harvard are doing.

Yale has been very aggressive with their OOC scheduling the last 3-4 years! Props to them!

If I can see a pattern developing get here it looks like Yale is looking to schedule on average two Patriot and one other league opponent per year.

Yale's out of conference opponents since 2013:

2013- Colgate, Fordham, Cal Poly
2014- Colgate, Lehigh, Army
2015- Colgate, Lehigh, Maine
2016- Colgate, Lehigh, Fordham
2017- Lehigh, Fordham, Holy Cross
2018- Mercer, Holy Cross, Maine
2019- Holy Cross, Richmond, open
2020- Holy Cross, Richmond, open
2021- Mercer, Holy Cross, open
2022- Mercer, Holy Cross, open
2023- Mercer, Holy Cross, open

2018 is an outlier with just one Patriot league opponent. It is more than rebalanced by three Patriot League opponents in 2016 and 2017. I predict all the open dates from 2019-2023 will be filled with Patriot League opponents to keep that 2 to 1 ratio. Unless Yale can find a FBS opponent to fill some of those open dates.

I hope that Colgate will fill a couple of those "open" slots.

You read my mind. That's what I would do if I was the Yale AD. I would want to leave just one date for UConn. I think they could get the historical waiver for that game to count as it would be the 50th game of the long Yale-UConn series.

Very impressive by Yale. I hope they have some good teams in the years they are playing Richmond, Maine and Mercer.

I think many in the Ivy will move to one Pioneer, one Patriot, and one regional game per year.

I was hoping that's why highly touted RB recruit Andrew Grinde took a year off from school this year.

i wouldn't mind seeing Yale play San Diego, Drake or Dayton. Drake and Dayton in particular have proud football histories. The rest of the Pioneer league isn't worth playing, IMHO.

I'd like to see Georgetown return to Yale's schedule once you build a nice new Football Stadium. Is there an ETA on that?

And that's not a good thing for me. I'm afraid I'll back Chicago, ETSU and a nationally relevant FCS sometime in the future, all because of Harvard ducking every opportunity to improve their schedule. xsmhx

By the way, props to Yale football and Coach Reno in particular. Well, who knows that you may become the FIRST Ivy to schedule the MVFC someday... xprayx

I like that the Spiders are finding some new opponents for FCS OOC games. I like these series with Colgate, Fordham, Yale. I think the fanbase finds them alot more interesting than your run of the mill Morehead State beatdown too.

We are (rightly) figuring out that the Playoff committee (again rightly) is down on the CAA. Missing the playoffs with 8 wins was a kick in the ass. I know it was a 5-way tie for 1st, but still. Glad to see the school being proactive. If only we were proactive on more serious matters..

Those aren't mutually exclusive.

I think there's some uncertainty/confusion regarding Yale's PL opponent in 2018. When the Yale-Holy Cross series was first announced, 2018 was included. However, LAST year's Ivy media guide (http://www.ivyleaguesports.com/sports/fball/2015-16/media_guide/15fbguide-Intro.pdf) listed Yale as playing Colgate on 9/15, Maine on 9/29 and an open date for 10/13, since filled by Mercer. Unfortunately, the 2016 Ivy media guide has not been released (http://www.ivyleaguesports.com/sports/fball/2016-17/media_guide/index) yet, so we can't gain further insight on this.

Holy Cross has them playing Yale in 2018 on their Website. There were numerous innaccuracies in last year's Ivy League media guide. I think that's why this year's is so late. They're trying to get it right this time.

This will be the first time UR has played Yale in our 135 years of football. Richmond is only 4-4 versus the Ivy League. 1-4 versus Cornell in 1927 and 1931-34 all in Ithaca, 1-0 versus Brown, 1985 in Richmond, and 2-0 versus Penn, 1981 in Richmond and 1998 in Philadelphia.

When did the powers that be in the Ivy League ever care about getting things right?

According to the just released Ivy League Media Guide the 2019 open date on Yale's schedule has been filled by Fordham. It will be a home game for Yale giving them six home games for the year.

Richmond is nowhere to be seen on the Yale section of the 2019 schedule. xcoffeex :(

Neither is Mercer in 2018. Sloppy work. I also see Fordham is still showing up as a future opponent of Columbia in the media guide. I hope that's true, but I doubt it.

Excellent choice to schedule the Spiders but I can't see Ivy tying itself to a Pioneer schedule. Way too much travel (unless they're all played at home). Besides, the top Ivies still beat their Patriot opponents most of the time. Ivies each ought to schedule a CAA team for sure, plus two PL or one PL and an NEC.

Personally, I liked it back in the day when we played the PL slate plus five Ivy, but . . . oh well . . .
