Rules are simple. You can only nominate a fan from your school. Nominate that fan on this forum that is absolutely crazy....you may secretly like him/her, but they are absolutely Bat Crap Crazy.....Lets see if you are willing to put it out there.

And to start off, From the Mocs I nominate Chattown, what do you have?

Honestly, most fans on AGS have the ability to take off the homerism glasses, so there are very few "delusional" fans due to others checking and counter-checking which creates a more sensible poster. Now if you go to one's team board, then it can be quite interesting and things start to become more fun.

So to answer your question, I will go with Lakes.

Ok, I am not delusional on the BISON which is the theme of the thread.

I expect us to lose every game and have often lost money hedging my support for the herd and my lust for wealth.

BTW, I have lots of delusions, but my fandom isn't one of them, or is this thread actually about delusional fans outside of fan support or is this thread specifically directed it me because I said something that upset somebody. How come the guy that started this thread hates me so much, WTF :D

I'm the most outspoken. I'm the most opinionated. I'm the one that's "most recognizable" because of how often I post.

What I've noticed is that people really hate me when I talk about their school because they think I'm hating them. Yet I take the same approach and same tactic to every other school and they agree with me and tell me things like "pretty good analysis" or something like that.

I'm not real good at sugar coating and it causes friction between myself and others.

I know how well I'm liked by PantherNation, which is why I always just assume I'm "that" UNI fan to everyone else.

Seriously? You're seriously going to state that a man named Jesus Christ didn't live in the middle east about 2000 years ago? You don't have to believe he was the son of God, but there is more than enough non-biblical evidence to prove he existed. What's next, deny the holocaust happened?

That.....

I....

There is no question that Jesus actually existed

What you believe beyond that is up to you, but Jesus and all 12 disciples are 100% real people.

Cornelius Tacitus was considered the greatest historian of ancient Rome. He wrote of Nero who "punished with the most exquisite tortures, the persons commonly called Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus [Christ], the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius: but the pernicious superstition, repressed for a time, broke out again, not only through Judea, where the mischief originiated, but through the city of Rome also." (Annals XV, 44 as quoted in The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict by Josh )

Flavius Josephus, a Jewish historian, (A.D. 38-100+) wrote about Jesus in his Jewish Antiquities, saying that Jesus was a wise man who did surprising feats, taught many, won over followers from among Jews and Greeks, that Jesus was believed to be the Messiah, was accused by the Jewish leaders, was condemned to be crucified by Pilate (Noted in Jesus Under Fire by Michael J. Wilkins and J. P. Moreland, Zondervan Publishing)

http://www.inquisitr.com/1696092/did-jesus-actually-exist-was-he-a-real-person/
However, there is historical evidence outside of Christian sources that indicates that Jesus existed and was a real person in the writings of at least two historians of the time.
There are two mentions of Jesus by a well known historian named Josephus who, in around 94 A.D., made references to Jesus in his Antiquities of the Jews. In the first, he says (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/religion/maps/primary/josephusjesus.html), “And there arose about this time Jesus, a wise man, if indeed we should call him a man; for he was a doer of marvelous deeds, a teacher of men who receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was the Christ… and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct to this day.”
The other reference by Josephus was a mention (http://josephus.org/quotes.htm) of “a man named James, the brother of Jesus who was called the Christ, and certain others.” Thus, it appears that Josephus had knowledge of the historical, living Jesus.
The other writer who mentions Jesus was Tacitus, A Roman historian who wrote of the “notoriously depraved Christians (http://www.usna.edu/Users/history/abels/hh205/pliny.html)” and “their originator, Christ, had been executed in Tiberius’ reign by the governor of Judea, Pontius Pilatus.” Tacitus apparently thought little of Christians, and so, was not writing to support the idea that Jesus existed.
Finally, it is interesting to note that the existence of Jesus and whether he was real was not denied by critics in antiquity. It has only been in relatively recent times that the actual existence of Jesus has been questioned (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2776194/Jesus-never-existed-Writer-finds-no-mention-Christ-126-historical-texts-says-mythical-character.html). Considering this and the references to a historical Jesus by non-Christian writers, there would seem to be evidence that could support an argument that Jesus Christ was a real person who actually existed.

Yes. 100% yes. His name wouldn't have been Jesus, it would have been something like Yehoshua bar Yoseph. His name was just a variation of Joshua, it would have been closer to Joshua son of Joseph than Jesus. And Christ is a title, of sorts, not his last name. Christ is also Greek (Christos) not Hebrew... and it is a title as you mentioned, which means Messiah. The man who the books were written about was probably named about 400 years after he died.

You are not a believer, so whatever I present you will say is bogus.

Roman historians Tacitus (Roman senator) chronicled him as did the Jews.

Italians simply weren't named Christopher. That is what he means. Cristoforo Colombo is his name. Christopher Columbus is his name anglicized long after he died. Hispanohablantes call him Cristobal Colon, as I'm assuming the Kingdom in which he worked also called him at that time.

Also, what? There were 50 to 100 million indigenous americans living on this continent during the pre-Columbian. A few, pffffft.

Seriously? You're seriously going to state that a man named Jesus Christ didn't live in the middle east about 2000 years ago? You don't have to believe he was the son of God, but there is more than enough non-biblical evidence to prove he existed. What's next, deny the holocaust happened?

Why do I need to?

You are not a believer, so whatever I present you will say is bogus.

Roman historians Tacitus (Roman senator) chronicled him as did the Jews.

I could say Bible references but it was written by committed believers so that would not count for you obviously.

There are probably close to 3 billion people on this planet that are influenced by this man. I suppose they are all dumbasses according to you.

The whole "Jesus is not a real historical figure" is rather an old and silly argument. But if you think about it logically, there would have been quite a bit of effort to not retain "non-biblical" references from history. Why? Because the bible, specifically the gospels, contained the history. And even if there were more than the 4 currently included in the NT, it really is not that hard to imagine. First off there were not that many historians recording every thing to begin with. Those that were associated with the church, especially after the 3rd century were not inclined to make new histories. Why? Think they are were going to write up a separate history so some 21st century non believer can feel better? Uhh...NO. Any earlier histories, contemporarily written by non Christians were probably not protected or saved except the few that survive since they may not have been in line with church doctrine. That the majority of these historians would not include a history of some "holy man" from Judea, and who was not in line with the agenda of their imperial patrons is news to anyone? And once the Empire was Christianized, any history that did not conform to the gospels was probably specifically not saved. Viewed today, absent of anyone's personal beliefs or agenda, this is not really hard to figure out.

For Europeans yes.

Except that we've been here on Delmarva for over 20,000 years and have the 22,000 year old man-made tools to prove it...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/radical-theory-of-first-americans-places-stone-age-europeans-in-delmarva-20000-years-ago/2012/02/28/gIQA4mriiR_story.html

When the crew of the Virginia scallop trawler Cinmar hauled a mastodon tusk onto the deck in 1970, another oddity dropped out of the net: a dark, tapered stone blade, nearly eight inches long and still sharp.
Forty years later, this rediscovered prehistoric slasher has reopened debate on a radical theory about who the first Americans were and when they got here.

Archaeologists have long held that North America remained unpopulated until about 15,000 years ago, when Siberian people walked or boated into Alaska and then moved down the West Coast.

But the mastodon relic found near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay turned out to be 22,000 years old, suggesting that the blade was just as ancient.

Whoever fashioned that blade was not supposed to be here.

Its makers probably paddled from Europe and arrived in America thousands of years ahead of the western migration, making them the first Americans, argues Smithsonian Institution anthropologist Dennis Stanford (http://anthropology.si.edu/staff/Stanford/Stanford.html).

You miss the point. They don't seek to withhold their services to sinners. They just wish to refrain from supporting a celebration of what they see as a sin. I'm sure that if a gay couple sought the services of a florist (perhaps that's a poor example) he'd sell flowers in a heart beat. Same thing with a baker. But, to ask them to specifically design flowers or a cake that overtly celebrate what the baker or florist sees as a sin is perhaps a little much. it would be much like forcing a doctor to perform abortions of convenience.

If they don't take the exact same stance with a hetro couple that had out of wedlock sex or either was divorced they are still celebrating the "sin"

At the core of this it's not about "sin"

It's about using religion to justify and perhaps rationalize discrimination against those that are different than we are, and those we see as somehow beneath us is social/moral standing

Or...man might have been here for much, much longer....with migration coming, as it does now, in waves. If the theory about a massive die off about 71,000 years ago is correct, man might have been in the Americas way back when...and then repopulated the continent after such a die off.

I think the evidence for pre-Columbian European migration is pretty strong along the eastern seaboard. You can look at some of the Mandan Indian culture and lore and see European influences. You can look at the Olmec in Central America and see African influences. At their closes, it's only 1800 miles between Africa and South America...it's sorta unrealistic to expect that there wasn't any migration between the two.

And let's not even get started on mummification and pyramids around the globe ;)

Do I agree that the people you are talking about are hypocrites? Absolutely. They are picking one thing they don't like and trying to hide behind religion with it. However the people who tend to gleefully point this out and paint all Christians as ignorant and stupid tend to be the first to say don't judge every other group by the actions of a few. There are quite a few hypocrites out there in terms of judging all Christians for the actions of a few. There are quite a few people judging Muslims for the actions of a few. It is all wrong. Killing people in the name of Allah is wrong. Judging people claiming it is in Jesus' name is wrong too.

It is crazy just how much of the worlds conflicts are from religions which are more or less the same. They have different Prophets, but the main gist of an all powerful creating heaven and earth is there (Islam, Judism, and Christianity). Plus what makes our modern religions less mythology than Greek/Roman or Norse religions which are referred to as mythology now?

Funny, I'm a Christian, and like every Christian I know, I believe in all the sciences also. Not every Christian thinks the world is 6000 years old. In fact, you may want to Google scientists who believe in God. There are a lot more out there than you may think. Just because a small minority of Christian's are the loudest, and get the most coverage because we all know crazy sells doesn't mean every Christian out there believes in what they believe in.

Oh, and if you don't believe Jesus actually is an historical figure you might want to do some research. There is a lot of studies done, by very educated individuals who would disagree with you.

This is a fun theory but still roundly rejected. Just search google for some evidence that disputes it and you will find boatloads.

That is if you simply believe the analysis of the current "evidence" by these individuals which dispute it. Not trying to preach, but "evidence" is a misnomer since it is scant and requires interpretation and theories to piece it together. Same applies to the whole global warming thing. Lots of evidence, lots of interpretation. When you rely on one view/interpretation to come up with a theory and attack those who may have a differing view/interpretation, for whatever reason (and there are many), I tend to not listen too terribly much to the noise. Instead I look at the raw evidence and try and educate myself.

In this particular case, I was especially interested in the shapes of the arrow points of the older sites. They are very different from the later ones found that are definitely tied to the Asiatic migration. But they were very similar to the European population's arrow heads. Hmm. I don't need someone to tell me this does't matter because of their own viewpoint. I have seen both and it does matter. That is a huge red flag to me that at least requires some consideration and ultimately a satisfactory explanation before I dismiss it.

A couple great examples of attacking a theory by supposedly informed people include the whole tectonics plates theory. I can't remember his name and I would have to search for his story, but I believe a scientist in the early 20th century came up with a theory pretty close to the current theory/model only to be ridiculed. As I recall he was specifically ridiculed because he was not a geologist. How dare he! Turns out he was spot on and vindicated (after his death unfortunately). Likewise, the whole Yucatan meteor strike theory was on the ragged edge of junk science. That is, until they found the layer of iridium.

I don't think all the evidence is in yet. So I am not inclined to dismiss a western migration of some magnitude along the edge of the ice sheet just yet.

The Georgia State fans from a couple of years ago top my "most delusional" list. I can't recall their names but they were priceless.

The Charlotte guy was pretty out there too. I wonder how he felt after Louisville hung 70 on them.

Written by committed believers long after the fact; none of whom actually met this person.

Just sayin...

Probably true. Still doesn't prove he didn't exist.

My grandmother saw snow on the 4th of July in SW ND over 100 years ago.....did it not happen just because I was not there to see it?

It's funny how loud they'll scream about not having religion shoved down their throats and then how much effort they will go into having these arguments and trying to make Christians "look stupid" in their minds. And after the conversation they'll say how they hate people who keep bringing up religion xcoffeex

We've had this discussion about a year ago or so.....Newtonian physics don't work at high speeds and high gravity fields, you have to switch to a special situational laws of physics...

If science is documentable and repeatable, then the "laws of physics" should be universal and not subject to special, situational applicability.

When you need special rules to be benevolently and fortuitously invoked in specific situation, that's called a "Design" ;)

I stated nothing about "Design" or religion, your discussion of the conflicts with classical vs quantum physics in no way means physics states nothing can exist. Thanks for the condescending response that does not answer my question. If you care to educate me as to how these different types of rules mean nothing can exist, I am all ears (I am no physicist, and was well aware that physics at this point is not universal).

Oy...let's recap.....Somebody said that the laws of physics made it impossible for there to be a resurrection. Which laws? Another poster, not me, indicated that if you went by the laws of physics, nothing would exist, which I took to be a reference to the fact that there's a huge conflict between classical and quantum physics. The laws that are supposed to be universal..well...AREN'T.

So..if those laws aren't universal and don't apply uniformly to every situation, then none of this could simply exist from situational happenstance.

Yet, we're here, having this dicussion, so it does exist. (See Descartes, Renee, for an examination of the scientific method. If that doesn't work, Google "I think, therefore I am."

We either have to resolve the conflict between the physics we employ to describe the world around us...or we have to admit that it's here because of a design that calls for the special imposition of laws in special situations....Kinda like a criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton.

So...my initial intent wasn't be to condescending. However, given the snark in your reply, I'm going to allow myself that indulgence.

Your question actually WAS answered, but if you're not smart enough to connect the dots between the other posters "If we went by physics, none of this would exist" and the conflict between the various "laws" we employ on a situational basis to explain the world around us, I'm not sure there's much point in continuing the discussion further.

Same to you also.

Where I get irritated is when some, not implying you, write condescending comments to people that do believe in him.

Even if someone does not believe he existed, what he preached and stood for is beneficial and a good moral checklist for all people.

We do it all the time.;)

There is actually a way to prove whether or not this recycled Egyptian sun god myth named Jesus really existed, or there will be very soon. All we need to know is the exact date, time, and place that this event was alleged to have taken place.

The claim is that Jesus ascended bodily up to heaven, ergo he had mass. Having mass means that he was constrained by the speed of light . So he can't possibly be more than two thousand light-years from earth and probably considerably less given energy requirements as one approaches c. So if we know exactly where and when the ascension took place we can easily plot his trajectory and locate him given today's technology, or if not now, soon.xthumbsupx

Put an end to this debate once and for all....xnodx

You're assuming, of course, that "Special Relativity" doesn't apply to Jesus, or that He wasn't composed Tachyons, in which case, He wouldn't necessarily be constrained by the speed of light...and you're assuming that our instruments are sensitive enough to be able to detect an object the size of a human at 2,000 light years, when we have trouble detecting planetary objects at distances much, much closer.

Having said that, I do realize that you're being facetious ;)

No, I'm assuming relativity does apply to Jesus because he had mass at the time of his ascension; and our observational ability is increasing by leaps and bounds. It wasn't very long ago that most scientists would have looked sideways at you if you talked about being able to detect planets around stars.

Oh, and if you don't believe Jesus actually is an historical figure you might want to do some research. There is a lot of studies done, by very educated individuals who would disagree with you.

Yes, there was a man that lived aprox 2000 years ago.
His parents had sex, and the sperm penetrated the egg creating a zygote and he was conceived
He was (likely) raised in a very normal home for the time, with brothers and sisters
He grew into adulthood, (likely) married and had his own family
He said many very controversial (for the time) things and some people "followed" him
The Roman govt found him annoying and had him tried on trumped up charges and executed
Several historians wrote about his life

Yes, I have no doubt there really was a man that lived 2000 yrs ago that fits the description of "Jesus"

I'm kind of surprised you're such a big Dave Ramsey fan given your attitude toward Christianity. I've no doubt that a large number of his listeners do not agree with his religious beliefs. However you seem to not only disagree but your comments are dismissive and condescending, and imply that you think those who believe are gullible and not overly smart.
