The last 2 years I have been driving 618 miles one way to watch Griz home games..........at times its closer to travel to the away games.

How about you guys what is the distance you drive to home games?

PAllen
August 27th, 2016, 10:31 AM
It's only between 200 and 250 miles depending on which way I go, that equates to four hours up to you name it because I have to go through or around DC, Baltimore, and possibly Philadelphia depending on the route. 600+ miles is a long way, but 200+ averaging less than 30 mph can be a nightmare.

240 miles 4 and half hours, so 480 miles round trip.

Too far to do every weekend with job and family, but I try to get to at least one, and being in the Austin area I can see the Jacks play in San Antonio with UIW. BOTPW and maybe the Houston Baptist game as well which is 170 miles under 3 hours drive.

All SFA home games on ESPN3 has made it to convent to just watch in the comfort of my living room.

What's ironic is when I was younger (single no kids) and lived in Houston I used to drive 300 or so miles round trip to every Texas Longhorn home game from 1996 to 2009. Houston to Austin religiously for years. Now I live in Austin only 17 miles from DKR Stadium and I don't go anymore.

72 miles from my house to MSU-Mankato campus. A little further to Southwest State- maybe 75. About 75 or so to St. Cloud State. About 82 to Concordia- St. Paul. I'm lucky, I can follow the Mavs on the road pretty well in the NSIC. Thursday I'll be going up to Minot- about 9 hours away. That is the furthest trip. Mary in Bismarck is closer than that.

345 miles from my garage to the parking lot at the Alerus Center. Takes me on average about 5.5 hours. Goes quicker if it's just me, longer if I have my parents or a group of friends with and we make multiple pit stops. I have driven straight through without any stops numerous times when it was just me.

When I lived in middle Georgia it was a 4:10 trip 268 miles to Charleston with one stop. We made all but one home game from 2008-2014. I have a place to stay in Charleston, with my mother in law, but it was still tiring driving on a Friday after work and coming back Sundays. Now that we moved to Brevard, NC it is actually 274 miles and takes a little longer at 4:30. We have not determined how many home games we are going to go to yet even though I don't work any more. I will make all the local away games (WCU, Wofford, Furman, all about an hour away and even ETSU is only about 2 hours away).

I'm in the "really really close" group. I can tell from my house if the stadium lights are on at night or not.
It's ~1 mile drive to where I usually park, but only about 3/4 of a mile from my house to the stadium (as the crow flies).

Also, my office window essentially overlooks our stadium.

If I turn around in my office chair, this is my view:

PAllen - where in northern VA do you live? One option that might work for you depending on where you live is taking the DC Beltway to US 29 (Colesville Road) outside of Silver Spring and use US 29, a small portion of I-70, and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to get to I-83. That option also allows you to choose between using US 30 and US 222 from York through Lancaster and Reading or use I-81/I-78 via Harrisburg to get to the Lehigh Valley. I presume you know about the I-270/US 15 option between DC and Harrisburg via Frederick, but if you live far enough west near I-66 or far enough south near the PW Parkway you could go out to US 15 near Haymarket and take much of the traffic out of the equation.

It depends on which potential route I take but one route is 121 miles through country roads or 134 miles via interstates. The interstate route is slightly faster. It's just a little more than 2 hours without stopping.

I'm just east of Springfield. So the exact opposite side of the DC beltway from 95 North. I grew up where 83 hits 695 and had grandparents in Bethlehem, so I know just about every way possible to get from here to there, and normally the 495-95-695-83-81-78 route is the best option.

By the usual route, ~130 miles that can take anywhere from 1:45 to 5+ hours. When I take routes to avoid traffic it can cut like 15 miles off, but goes on the tour of Chester and Montgomery counties. If I was to go to a game, Lehigh would be just under 40 miles and Lafayette would be just about 25. I currently go to school at East Stroudsburg and it's an easy 6 mile drive

I used to live really close...less than a mile. Now it's a healthy 8 miles but I do have a couple of route options and the trip takes at least 20 minutes depending.

There's always the obligatory stop at the c store for those last few forgotten items...propane tanks, ice, etc. Sometimes we have head into Cheney proper to swing by the actual grocery store for assorted tailgating cuisine purposes and booze. That lengthens the trip to 30 minutes or so.

My preferred method when everybody has their **** together and is ready to roll is to take the road less traveled through the wheat hills, bypassing the state routes and traffic...

Normally, it's 170 miles from NW Houston to Lake Charles. This year it will be 2065 miles one way for me. So I'm flying. I'm on a temporary assignment in the San Francisco Bay Area and Lake Charles is a long way. I will only be able to make 3 home games, and one away game, which is actually closer to my house in Houston.

In 2006 I relocated to Chicago for a year and I flew to EVERY McNeese game home and away. Didn't miss one.

I cant do that this year because of my schedule, which sucks, but most games are televised now so at least I'll get to see them. That wasn't the case in 06.

97 miles one way for the shortest route, but I really hate driving the tail of the dragon. My daughter pukes every time and the family refuses to go that way. A couple nice views on the way. Mostly trees and curves with white knuckles.

So we've gone through the Smokies over Newfound Gap at 102 miles one way. That's a beautiful ride, but congested due to fall leaf traffic and/or bear jams. Sometimes not an option because of road closure due to snow/ice. UTC game of '14 was a nightmare due to 18"+ at Newfound Gap and 10" in the gorge on I-40. If I can leave early, there's nothing like a rest stop on a crisp fall morning at an overlook to start off game day!
If all else fails, I can usually go to Knoxville and hit I-40 east at 144 miles one way.xthumbsdownx
