That's a fantastic schedule! Two very solid, but winnable OOC opponents in Furman and Richmond is very intriguing! Especially getting them both in Hamilton! Adding a local FBS team that you've previously is also a great catch! Now Colgate needs one more game so they're not stuck with a 10 game schedule like this year! xsmiley_wix

I think the CAA is trying to do 2 year rotations with the conference schedule, so this is what I think Delaware will have:
9/2 - Delaware State
9/9 - @ Virginia Tech
9/16 - Cornell
@ Villanova
@ Towson
@ Stony Brook
@ Maine
Albany
Richmond
James Madison
William & Mary

Yeah, even at only 10 games so far, I'm envious of Colgate's schedule next year. Joe, take note at the art of the possible.

Really.... why?

Because the NCAA has to incentivize other teams so that Hawai'i can fill out a schedule. Travelling to Hawai'i mid-season is inordinately hard and expensive and, aside from the fans, no team in the rest of America would willingly go there.

* For an east coast team, you're looking at an average of 14 hours flight time each way. That's just the time that the plane is in the air and doesn't account for time spent travelling to the airport, time in the airport, clearing security, re-fueling stops and any other delays that typically happen on a trip that, strictly in terms of mileage, is a transcontinental flight from anywhere in the country.
* Once you're there, it's a 3-hour time difference for a west coast team and a 6-hour difference for east coast so jet lag is a serious concern. Many teams actually end up facing that aspect the following week while they're preparing for their next opponent so having an open date after the Hawai'i trip is ideal. If you have a tough opponent, the week after you travel to Hawai'i, you might be in trouble.
* Travel to and lodging in Hawai'i are extremely expensive; so much so, in fact, that, on top of allowing the bonus game, the NCAA themselves chips in travel $$ to help cover travel costs.
* Beyond all that, the facilities at Hawai'i are nominal at best, particularly for a visiting team. June Jones was easily the most successful coach that Hawai'i has had since the 1970's and, when he resigned, he specifically cited the lack of facility improvements despite their success as a leading reason for his departure.

The same deal works for Alaska-Anchorage and Alaska-Fairbanks in hockey. You get an extra game (up to 2) for each game you play in Alaska.

Here's what I know of Western's at this point...

Non-Conference games (don't know dates at this point): at Northern Arizona, vs Saint Xavier University (small NAIA school in Chicago...I hate that we had to schedule a non-DI opponent, but we kinda had to scramble when Coastal Carolina backed out of their return game to Macomb that year due to FBS reasons). I'd imagine that we'll probably (hopefully) be able to find a FBS opponent for a weekend in there, and I'd hope that our athletics department is also calling around to see if there's any FCS teams interested in coming to Macomb so we can swap out SXU.

Conference Schedule:
9/30 - South Dakota (Homecoming)
10/7 - at Northern Iowa
10/14 - Missouri State
10/21 - at North Dakota State
10/28 - South Dakota State
11/4 - at Illinois State
11/11 - at Indiana State
11/18 - Southern Illinois

Also, for MVFC reference, this is year 1 of the 2 year "bye" schedule, so next year is the same as this year:
WIU & YSU
ISUb & SDSU
SIU & NDSU
USD & MSU
ISUr & UNI

And one more thing I just noticed that while typing it up....Coach Nielson, at the end of next season, will have coached in the MVFC for 5 years and played Missouri State exactly once (his first year at Western).

Beware, SXU is perenially ranked in the NAIA polls. If I were to rank the best college football programs in the whole of Chicagoland...

SXU
North Central
Northwestern
Wheaton
IWU
Chicago and the rest

(You can probably swap the first and the second spots)

Oh, I am by no means discounting the capabilities of SXU. My displeasure rests solely on the fact that it doesn't count as a DI game for us. So, assuming we are able to fill out our schedule with an FBS team, we'll have our 8 games against MVFC teams, one FBS game (likely loss), the game against SXU (which doesn't "count" if we win it), and the game at Northern Arizona (we beat them this year, but they're a good team and it'll be at their place next year).

If we beat SXU and NAU and lose our FBS game, we can drop maybe 2 MVFC games to finish essentially 7-3 (technically 8-3, but as we know, non-D1 don't count). That's in a year where we play at the Fargodome, at the UNIDome, at ISU's Hancock Stadium, plus SDSU and everyone else. You essentially have to be a Top 10-caliber team to go through all that and only lose two (or fewer games). We might be there next year, I don't know at this point, but I don't like that we don't get that extra game as more of a "leeway". As for the precedent being set for a 6-win team to make the playoffs, last year we had beaten 3 other playoff teams, had technically finished 3rd in the conference, and had (according to Massey) the #1 toughest schedule in the FCS. With a NAIA team on our schedule, and having swapped out Missouri State for Youngstown State this and next year (we didn't play MSU the last two years, which is why we were slightly ahead of UNI for SoS), I don't think we can count on SoS as a factor.

Obviously I'd prefer to just win 8+ games and make it a non-issue, but you just never know with the MVFC...some years we just all beat each other up and end up on the bubble.

I'm looking forward to a more competitive VMI. Man, my wife and I had such a great time in Lexington that weekend, what an awesome place. Walked all over VMI and Lexington. Walked around WL also, beautiful campus.

Is Coach Wach gonna turn things around? Was this season a success? How do things look for next year. Perhaps 2 and 1 after three games next year? Does the passing offense work at VMI or do they need to go TO? I hope they can get things going.

Really.... why?

Because of the difficulty for them to schedule home games because of the distance. Years ago the Gophers went there and got to play an extra game. Of course, instead of scheduling it at the end of the season like Wisconsin did, they did it to open the season. You want to be there in Nov or Dec instead of in August.

Basketball allowed the same thing. I think that is why they had restrictions on how many of those tournaments you could be in. In 1994 I went to the Great Alaskan Shootout, in 1995 the Big Island Tournament in Hawaii- both over Thanksgiving.

A lot of VMI fans thought this would be a 6-5 or 7-4 season. Mercer, Furman, WCU were games VMI could have won. And Citadel and Woffy were right there...

I'm not saying it's wrong, but how the **** do you have H/A dates for conference games 3 years out already? That seems like "let's throw darts".

UNI's craptastic schedule is finalized with a SUU writer tweeting out that SUU will host UNI next year

OOC Home:
Cal Poly

OOC Road:
Iowa State
Southern Utah

Conference Home:
Indiana State
South Dakota
Western Illinois
Youngstown State

Conference Road:
Missouri State
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Southern Illinois

Good luck selling new season tickets next year with that schedule coming off a 2-3 home record and 5-6 overall season that left even the most die hard of us UNI fans questioning if we should go to games.

No way in hell there is any new season tickets of significance sold for next year.

Hope UNI decides to dump all upgrade money into painting seat backs purple next year to try to hide some of the 10,000 empty seats

Have I mentioned how ****ing ****ty the conference is at scheduling for putting UNI's biggest potential home games are always home/road in the same year. How the hell does UNI always seem to get SDSU, NDSU and the third biggest game (SIU right now, ISUr the two years before that but ISUr is rotated off now) on the same rotation?

Same thing with SDSU happens too. UNI and NDSU on the same H/A rotation. Granted they do get their in-state rival rotated against NDSU/UNI. However, ISUr is on the same rotation of UNI/NDSU.

With SLC unbalanced conference, who knows how the conference schedule will play out. I am pretty sure SE La will be back on the schedule, but not sure who will drop off. I hope HBU or IWU will be left off of SHSU schedule next year, but most likely I am thinking it will be Nicholls St....

I think this is the OOC schedule for the next 3 years. Another Kat fan can correct me if I am wrong....

2017

OOC -- Richmond, Prairie View

2018

OOC -- North Dakota, Prairie View

2019

OOC -- New Mexico, North Dakota

Of course, all is subject to change.

No, I think that they are flipping SLU and Lamar on and off of folks schedules to balance out the games. I could be wrong.

I know that the conference sets the schedule pretty far in advance (obviously would be adjusted if needed if conference membership changes). I've actually had a copy of our own conference schedule up through 2017 as of about 2 years ago. Some schools wait to put out their schedule until they have all their OOC games locked in and scheduled, and some just put out what they have as soon as they have it. I prefer the latter, gives me more time to plan for trips and stuff.

Assuming everyone starts MVFC play on the same weekend (9/30), then I already have all of next year's conference schedules put together at my earlier link.

Because of NDSU and SDSU putting out most of their schedules for 2018 already, I can start to piece together that one as well, and start getting a list of the "byes" for '18/'19 (the team that each team doesn't play that set of years). So far, it's SDSU-WIU and NDSU-ISUb.

xconfusedx McNeese plays both SELU and Lamar so it is probably HBU. I don't care who we play in conference but SHSU and SELU need to play each other. Of course based on how Nicholls looked this year and what they have coming back next year it could be perfect timing to get the Colonels off of the Kat's schedule.

Wouldn't solve anything.

Would force UNI even deeper into the rotation **** train. UNI is directly in the center of the conference (geo mid point is just east of Iowa City....or about 90 minutes driving). Adding UND would take that mid point to Ellis Golf Course in Cedar Rapids, IA (about 15 min from my house). That shifts the mid point 36 miles NW. From the UNIDome it's 65 miles to that mid point.

That means, with YSU and ISUr already rotated off of UNI's schedule the next off, should UND be added, would likely be Indiana State as they'd be the furthest east of UNI or WIU as they would be furthest west of the east schools.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a conference slate like

Rotation 1:
NDSU
SDSU
USD
SIU

Rotation 2:
YSU
ISUR
ISUB/WIU
MSU

Several of us McNeese fans have gotten together researching several sources and have pasted together this 2017 McNeese SLC conference schedule together. I guess we will have to wait until McNeese eventually announces the schedule to see if we got it right. There will probably be a D-II home game and a FBS money game added to it.

With the players we have returning next season, and how favorable our home/away games line up, there is an outside chance we could run the table next year... Ranking our toughest games:

1. vs NDSU (always a battle and NDSU has had the upper hand, but the tide is turning)
2. vs UNI (historically has owned us but we made a statement this year and get them at home)
3a. @ YSU (easily our toughest road game next season)
3b. vs ISU-R (may be a worse matchup than YSU but we get the Redbirds at home)
5. @ MT St. (fun out of conference game to see on the schedule, very winnable)
6. @ WIU (we have dominated WIU since the move to FCS)
7. @ USD (Yotes haven't beat us in almost 20 years and will be facing the best SDSU team they've ever seen)

What you did to UNI was no more a statement than what USD did....or YSU...or NDSU....or EWU....or Montana.

This years team was a **** show for a number of reasons and by the time SDSU rolled into town the last week of the season the signs were already taken out of the windows and turned all but the entry lights off.

That was a beat down of a beaten dog.

A beaten down dog that was in the playoffs with a win...? That was a playoff game for UNI. It's not like those guys didn't show up. We just imposed our will in the 2nd half and pulled away, and in the previous few weeks, the Panthers were playing their best ball of the year only giving up 12 PPG.

I think it's more of a compliment that's SDSU fans view your program in such a light that I think it'll be our second most difficult game. Regardless, I'm confident we are going to beat you again next year, probably even worse than we just did. Were probably more likely to slip-up at YSU or something.

If our little group of McNeese fans' research is correct. McNeese's schedule drops Sam Houston and picks up HBU. Sam's schedule drops McNeese and picks up SLU.

I've watched every UNI game for over a decade, most two or three times and a few a bunch. That was a team that had quit. That team looked like the team that took the field at the end of 2010 when Lehigh walked out of the dome with a playoff win. The season was done. From what I'd heard the locker room was very split, players weren't talking to each other, players had quit the team without leaving the team, etc... it was a disaster. Most/all of those players are now gone so maybe that changes. There was a cancer in that locker room and it killed the team.

I don't know where you're getting the 12 PPG thing. Starting with the Missouri State game

MSU - 61-7
NDSU - 20-24
ISUB - 39-6
WIU 30-23

That's also greatly skewed by a horrid MSU team and an ISU team that quit, just did so 2 weeks before UNI did. Through the first 7 conference games the team had been giving up 18 ppg.

That was a team going nowhere fast. It was even more evident in person. Zero interest in being there.

Great. Boast about thinking you'll beat us by 70 next year. DGAF. Remember who won the last time we played in Brookings. AAMOF, UNI has won 2 of the last 3 in Brookings.

Also remember that this years UNI team started 6 freshman or sophomores on defense and 6 freshman or sophomores on offense for the SDSU. Look at the players who played. I believe about 90% of our receiving stats were freshman or sophomores. QB was a sophomore. Started 2 sophs and a freshman on the OL.

This just wasn't a good UNI team. Maybe next year will be.

To be fair the entire SDSU offense will be back. And that's not an exaggeration. They lose the #3 WR and a OT who split time with a true frosh from the starters against UNI.

Sorry, 15PPG allowed, not 12. But you are making my point for me. This will be our second most difficult game next year, and NDSU is only higher because, well, yeah... Sounds like we agree to agree for the most part, just difference stances on who we think wins next year's match-up. But, we've got a lot of football to play before then!

Yeah.

Having said that if the UNI home game was this year I'd be "happier" with it. Our home schedule sucks something fierce. SUU wouldn't have made it "better" but it'd have given us 6 home games.

I think the CAA is trying to do 2 year rotations with the conference schedule, so this is what I think Delaware will have:
9/2 - Delaware State
9/9 - @ Virginia Tech
9/16 - Cornell
@ Villanova
@ Towson
@ Stony Brook
@ Maine
Albany
Richmond
James Madison
William & Mary

- - - Updated - - -

Really hoping you guys finally resurrect your program. It'd be great to see you upset Tech but the CAA can't stand any more loses to the Ivy. This year Dartmouth had more CAA victories than Ivy League victories.

Beat me to it, honestly am very happy with this schedule. A pure D1 OOC schedule (will probably go 1-2 if I'm being honest) and a good Big Sky slate with some of the top teams, up and coming / good programs and some winnable games.

FWIW-The Bucknell Gridiron Club newsletter, where this schedule was published, noted Marist as a Patriot League game. Probably a typo...

You do play them every year, I can understand the confusion

Marist has played Bucknell for 11 straight seasons (since 2005), but did you know the Red Foxes have played the exact same 3 non-conference opponents (Bucknell, Georgetown, and Sacred Heart) for last 7 of their last 8 seasons (2009-2011, 2013-2016)?

Unfortunately, almost all of the PFL plays the same type of opponents, though the opponents differ for most.

Nicholls is getting Texas A&M & Prairie View A&M for OOC games. They haven't officially announced the date for the latter (the article references a fan site citing October 28th as the date), but the former is scheduled for September 9.

It said that ACU is now on our schedule and that UCA is out. The only other confirmed date we were given in the local paper was the Aug 31 opener against McNeese.

What is wrong with the Wagner game in Staten Island?

Wasn't this a possible PL expansion team per LFN? You could pull a Colgate and drop the game to keep a 10-game schedule.

Let's be honest. Not too many fans are going to be excited over a road game against any middling lower tier FCS conference opponent on Staten Island. It isn't a desirable road destination.

Aside from that, I look at this schedule and can't help but remember LU's 2012 OOC slate: Monmouth, Princeton, Columbia, @Liberty, @CCSU. Lehigh went 5-0 OOC and 10-1 that year, ultimately being left out of a 20 team playoff field. Lehigh and PL fans are expecting that our teams take the next step forward to better compete in the playoffs. Schedules like this make it difficult to get a seed unless you win out. Even with a single loss, a PL team can get stuck playing on the road each week. That makes it difficult to be successful in the playoffs.

I'm more disappointed in the overall non-conference schedule than Wagner specifically. A road trip to Liberty or elsewhere in the Big South, SoCon, or CAA instead of either Monmouth or Wagner would have been much preferred.

I'm aware of the fact that the PL is perceived as a lower tier FCS conference. My point is that it is hard to be excited about playing against Wagner, Bucknell, Lamar, etc. especially when that opponent happens to be on Staten Island.

The problem isnt Wagner. LU seems to be adopting a rather formulaic plab for OOC. An NEC,2 Ivy,1 CAA and Monmouth. Yeah we have a one off with Naby in 18 but not much else to look forward to. Dont mind those conferences at all just the way we seem to be approacing OOC scheds . Hoped we would mix in an occasional SoCon or do 2 CAA or 2 Big South along with an Ivy or 2. Oh well.
Not a bad OOC for Lehigh as a practical matter. 2 revenge games,2 Ivies I truly detest and a trip to Staten Island :)

I'm well aware of that. We will gave played Monmouth 6 out of the last 7 years after next season. That's a little too often for my liking. I'm as eager to see them on the schedule as Wagner. Both are practical from a travel perspective, but are hard to get excited about for the average fan. Charleston Southern, Liberty, W&M, Maine, Richmond, or Albany would be a nice change of pace. Those would also be a better draw at home than a far too familiar foe. Nothing against Monmouth. I'm glad we've scheduled home and homes with JMU and Nova the past four years instead of scheduling UNH year after year.

I know, that's why CCSU will schedule always schedule at least 2 games (FBS and FCS) on the road for the $$$. Like Maine, we need the money to pay the bills.

Because it is a close bus game, I was hoping Maine would consider a home/home instead of just buying a game from the Blue Devils. I assumed Maine couldn't afford to buy any home games. but I guess those 2 FBS games basically fund their 3rd game at home. We haven't been able to get UNH at home either - only URI has agreed to home/home deal with CCSU.

A lot of VMI fans thought this would be a 6-5 or 7-4 season. Mercer, Furman, WCU were games VMI could have won. And Citadel and Woffy were right there...

Hey, I know this story...

...AND Morehead State was driving for the game-winning score, but fumbled on the VMI 32 with about 5 minutes to play
...AND it took a Keydet FG with under a minute to play to tie and 3 OT's to beat Bucknell

...so, 1-10 was, theoretically, just as possible as the 7-4 or 9-2 that you allude to in your post.

Sorry - I get 'beat up' so much for wistfully 'posting out loud' what mighta, coulda (but NEVER shoulda) been, that I'm now conditioned to act out the same way - "Battered Poster Syndrome," I guess. :)

With Cobb heading to off to his ministry, do you think "Hodges, the Younger" will be the QB for VMI in 2017? Based on nothing other than 'DNA Analysis,' I would imagine he would be...and I think VMI will be even better next year. Tough 'out' for all SoCon Teams in 2016, except Samford (I guess) and gonna get tougher, I believe.

BTW - Any reports on how WR Kendrick Jackson's prospects are looking for the future?

For the 10th time in 13 seasons UNI will play at least 2 of their first 3 MVFC games on the road. WAFJ that is.

I'm getting real ****ing sick of **** like this from UNI. Cut the **** with the ****ing Big Sky H/H and ending up with 2 OOC road games every ****ing year, especially when the MVFC is going to force UNI to spend the first half of the conference season on the ****ing road.

I hate every single thing about out schedule.

-Iowa State wants to move that game to a Thursday night. **** that. That game should always been 7PM on a Saturday night. It will always sell 100% of tickets at the highest/second highest price on Iowa State's schedule. **** you if you want to move it to Thursday night.

-Poly runs a stupid offense that we either spend way too much time prepping for and ignore Iowa State or not enough time on and get run the **** over

-Second OOC road game. Yes, it has a return game but F that. The return wasn't announced if it was 2018 or 2019. We've already got 2 OOC road games booked in 2018 - @ Iowa and @ Montana, so a home game is needed. Given our scheduling history and the fact we've already got Iowa and Montana we will ask NDSU to play us as a OOC game, because **** ever playing an OOC opponent that isn't a ****ing dog fight.

No home game vs any of the "rivals" - SIU, SDSU, NDSU, or ISUr. We do get YSU at home, I guess. Outside of that games against Poly, Indiana State, and WIU isn't going to sell tickets.

I despise the rotation the MVFC has set. I despise how UNI is always forced to start on the road. I despise how stupid our OOC scheduling has gotten.

Did some research this morning on MVFC scheduling and charted it.

The chart shows how many of the first 3 or 4 conference games are played on the road for each team every year. I tried to keep it at 3 but went to 4 or 5 in years where a long pattern of road or home appeared. So in a column where it reads 1 of 3 it means that 1 of the first 3 were on the road. If it reads 3 of 4 that means 3 of the first 4 were on the road. It averages to just over 3ish games per team per year. So, the first third of the schedule more or less.

It's interesting to note that UNI spends 61.5% of the first third of the season on the road. Illinois State 60.5. Meanwhile NDSU 33.3 and YSU 41.7. UNI and ISUr are the only two OVER 50%. I know that doesn't seem possible, but with how schedules rotate and all of that it works out somehow.

http://www.anygivensaturday.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24240&stc=1

It could be argued, quite well, that early road games means more late season home games for the push. I don't disagree. I think a large part of the last few playoff pushes by UNI have been aided by that. It would also be interesting to see what the schedule *could* have played out like if 2 of the first 3 conference games were at home with road games loaded in the middle. Who knows.

I thought maybe it was beacuse UNI had a dome and weather wouldn't have an impact on games late in the year - when NDSU and USD aren't seeing the same schedule set up it's safe to assume that isn't the reason.

I don't know what it means, if anything. Just interesting.

My bet would be that they go all-in on guarantee games. However, with so many power conferences either outright banning FCS games or mandating their members schedule at least one other P5 team, the amount of guarantee game slots is getting smaller. Because they draw so well, it could also be possible that the SWAC is trying to net more home games overall (against NAIA, other FCS, D2, whoever) and thus bring in greater revenue.

Take a look at some of the SWAC (and MEAC) OOC basketball schedules. They are crisscrossing the country for paydays left and right, with the occasional game against an unacredditted bible school with a male enrollment of 50 thrown in there for good measure.

The purpose of cutting the conference schedule to 7 games was to give schools more flexibility as far as scheduling. So far I've seen a pretty good mix of Southland, SoCon,MEAC, and OVC schools on the schedules. The only school that went all in on guarantee games was Alabama A&M who has 3 FBS games scheduled next season.

This will be the second year in a row we have faced a coach coaching his first game. It can be hard to prepare for those games.

The worst part of the schedule is that our open week is week #3 and then we play 8 in a row without a break.

Mississippi Valley State
@ EWU
Robert Morris
Missouri State

Western Illinois
Northern Iowa

South Dakota

Decent home schedule. Looking forward to the 2017 Bison team.....they should be loaded with DeLuca and Tanguay coming back. 8 back on defense and basically only losing 3 OL. Bison will be better in '17.

That is no small task. Furman knows Wofford well and tends to play them pretty tough. Especially considering Furman's head coach is coming from a program that knows the run game and option arguably as well as any team in the country.

I don't envy the Wofford defensive staff trying to figure out what Furman is going to do on offense. Paladins have hired three successful coaches, each of whom ran a variation of a run heavy offense at their former programs. I expect the Paladins are going to have a pretty unique look for SoCon football. Good news for Wofford is it'll be our first game too.

09-02-17 Butler

10-28-17 @Youngstown St
11-04-17 Western Ill
11-11-17 @South Dakota St
11-18-17 North Dakota St

No FBS game because the BIG 10 is done with FCS/MVFC. Our game with Missouri St was supposed to be 10-07-17 but they agreed to move it up so we could play @Northern Arizona on that date to complete our schedule (H/H will be returned in 2019).

The last 4 games should be the hardest stretch against the usual beef of the MVFC. If we can go 2-2 during those last games I think we will have had a pretty decent year. 8-3 would be about what I'm hoping for with 5 Home / 6 Away.

I have heard that it "is done"......just waitin'. And by putting together pieces of the SoCon slate so far, I will guess WCU will visit Lex. on 10/21....

I was guessing that Mercer would be in Cullowhee on 10/21 (which would be good if the Cats ARE in Lexington :-) )....My options for that guess are BYE, OOC Game, VMI (in Macon), @ Furman or @ WCU. Primarily guessed @ WCU out of those options because of prior/subsequent week home/aways AND prior order that Mercer has played SoCon Teams (which doesn't really matter, I know)....

Why do you think WCU @VMI on 10/21? Anything more substantial than my fractured logic?

Are some of the Ivies boycotting Colgate?

From all accounts, this is Colgate's own doing. Part of Colgate's selling football scholarships to the administration was that Colgate would be able to recruit better students (which it seems to have done based on team GPA since going scholarship) and also play more "like-minded" schools. Army and Navy returned to the schedule and they started scheduling schools like Richmond and Furman (strong academic schools with traditionally strong football programs). This also (apparently) meant dropping a home and home with Bryant. For whatever reason, they have not been able to replace it. Don't know the politics behind it--or even if what I have posted is true (it's the consensus on the Colgate board) but it certainly is a bummer--at least Bryant was able to find replacements--including @ Montana St. last year.

Official StonyBrook 2017 Schedule posted yesterday 12/5

9/2 @ USF in Raymond James Stadium
9/9 @ Rhode Island
9/16 Sacred Heart Univ.
9/24 Towson Univ.
9/30 @ William and Mary

10/14 Univ of New Hampshire
10/28 @ Richmond
11/4 Albany
11/11 Wagner
11/18 @ Maine

Schedule is good but a strange ending . Usually we would finish with Albany as a rivalry game. This year we have Wagner home and then travel to Maine . Weird but ok.

Boggles the mind that it appears that the CAA schedule is out, but only Stony Brook has made theirs public.

Cal Poly would be great. (And in my neighborhood.) Anybody who wants to make the necessary changes to a minimum of three teams' schedules has my blessing. Also, as far as Colgate playing ten games being "quite frankly a slap in the face to the rest of the league," I hope the other teams are OK. Maybe Bucknell can tickle Lehigh for a bit to make them feel better.

Why not play a 8 game schedule and only worry about league games? When the rest of the league is playing 11 game schedules it's a weak move by Colgate to believe it's ok to play 10 two years in a row. There's simply no excuse for it.

Hopefully the committee would penalize an 8-2 or 7-3 Colgate for their decision to dodge an 11th game.

Yup, pretty much right-on as far as I know at this point. We do also have (at this point) a home game scheduled against NAIA Saint Xavier (Chicago). I'd have to assume that they're planning on 9/2 against SXU so that we're not opening the season with a bye, but my hope is that the delay in announcing our schedule is because they might be trying to work out a different opponent for that weekend, so that we're playing an all-DI schedule. Probably trying to find someone with whom a H&H starting with @WIU in 2017 would be a possibility.

Excellent analysis! Thanks so much!!

Yes. Given the scores of some of the recent PL playoff games it makes it hard to think of them as a 2 team playoff league, but the mini-Colgate run avoided a complete argument against the premise.

In a slim pickings playoff year the committee will consider a 8-9 win PL team I suppose.

All depends on the individual teams and OOC records. Each season is different. If Lehigh blows out Villanova and goes 9-2 next year, I'd expect them to get a look at an at large. I know the last game is fresh in everyone's mind, but Lehigh has had years where we beat the CAA/Yankee/MVFC champ in the playoffs as has Colgate.

Anyone know when they'll determine the FCS Kickoff ESPN game? Talked to the guy from Hero Sports on the field after the game last weekend and he seemed pretty confident JMU would get an option on it with EWU/NDSU already set for their home-and-home series. Before that, I figured it had already been determined but maybe not. Pretty sure JMU could buy out or move one of our non-con guarantee games (i.e. Norfolk St.) and host this one if so. Would be really cool to have someone like Montana (rematch from crushing '08 semi), JSU, SDSU, or El Cid (Houston factor and geography would make this a no-brainer) in Harrisonburg, but that would be one tough start to the season with @ECU on Labor Day Weekend.

Big "if" given Villanova is returning 16 starters from a playoff team & wont have the FBS game hangover this time around. I guess it's possible to win, but a blowout is highly unlikely especially since Villanova will likely play keep away with a bigger OL and talented running backs. Your offense will have their moments, but despite despite 2 major defensive players we will still have a lot back from the #1 FCS defense in scoring & yards allowed.

Maybe it's been mentioned already, but NDSU cannot participate in the 2017 FCS Kickoff game on ESPN as there is some rule not allowing participation more than 2 years in a row...lots of other good options available and variety will be welcomed!

What is all the worry about playing one of the worst FBS teams out there?

Well said, and hope you're right. Gonna be some serious purple-on-purple crime out there that day!

I'm sorry, Harvard, but Murphy has to retire before I'd give any more suggestions for the schedule of opponents. I've had enough of his wrong wits. xsmhx xbangx

Yeah, I guess if you are going to get an ass-whooping, it might sting less from an Auburn payday. Luckily for you, you don't have to worry about football after November 18.

Maybe I'm just blind and don't see it already mentioned, but Montana @ WIU was recently announced for 8/31/17

Our recent stretch against everyone that's not NDSU is pretty dominating, but we've never beat them. How humiliating.

They have been in the CAA since 2013. It will be 5 years if you don't play them in 2017.
