The U of I's licensing royalties doubled from $545,000 in fiscal 2002 to $1.1 million in fiscal 2004. Iowa State has seen royalties more than triple over the past 10 years to $510,700 in fiscal 2004, and UNI's royalties shot up from $61,500 in calendar 2003 to fund for sports expenses. The remaining 30 percent will be allocated to as-yet-undetermined ISU programs by President Gregory Geoffroy.

For the first time, UNI's royalties this year will exceed the cost of running the licensing program, said Julie Bright , senior associate athletic director. "The money will likely be churned back into marketing for the university," she said.

I'm not sure how much Montana brings in, but they rank 46th for CLC member institutions - not sure if the Iowa schools are members of the CLC, I didn't see them in the top 50.

Not enough on the Sam Houston side. The most notable absence has to be on the jersey/uniform side. I can't find one place, either physical or on the internet, that handles SHSU football, basketball, or baseball jerseys.

Being a former member on the SHSU Hockey team, I could only imagine how much money the organization could make if we could mass produce our jerseys. They are high in demand, but right now they're only collector's items, just like everything else.

Except for our Football Office and Maroon Council, Colgate could do a much better job at this. Before the internet, it was hard to get any fan-type stuff unless you went to Hamilton for a ball game.

There should be an interesting article about this very subject in the I-AA preview magazine.

Lehigh has a lot of different stuff. Most of the hoody's and t-shirts are geared towards westling and football but you can find something for just about any sport. They certaintly have a lot more selection and better looking stuff than Temple. Our bookstore is pathetic. :(

I don't know the exact numbers, but we at Texas State have sold a WHOLE WHOLE lot since/because of the name change from Southwest Texas State. Guess it's merely an effect of the cause.

Whoever your new marketing guy was during the Southwest-TXST transition, I'm sure he's rolling in piles of money. With the new Bobcat logo, they spread that thing around to almost every Lids ship that I've seen. And so many different styles too.
The SHSU merchandise is about 2 years behind ya. So far I've counted 7 total SAM hat designs from Lids.

Give us time, enrollment and fan base will grow with it.

Gosh, AO, I thought the only ice in Huntsville was in the morgue at the state pen! Can I buy a jersey on eBay? And was that a hockey game against the TCU Horned Frogs?

Take a little look closer and you'll see that it's not exactly ice. SHSU Hockey is actually inline hockey (for now). That game is against TCU, one of our closer rivals.
We play in the Southwest Collegiate Hockey League and have around 22 teams in three divisions.
I really wish we had enough merchandise to put on Ebay. I'd sell mine, but I'm quite fond of it.
TXState, where's your hockey merchandise?

Check these two links to see our org. I'm guessing that 80% of universities represented on this board is involved in the national league.

I don't think we have a hockey team, at least not one that I've heard of. If I'm wrong, I'm sure another TxState poster will correct me.

Hey retro - Did CCU make it into that article? It is interesting to see the impact of football on our logo royalties.

I remember seeing something in the local paper that in our first year playing (2003-2004) we had $17,000 in royalties compared to $1,600 the year before. I know that this is nothing compared to other schools - but it is a nice step for us. I expect we will have a decent increase this year as well. ALso note that those figures don't count what the athletic department sells directlty.

I thought long pants in hockey went out with the Hartford Whalers and the Reagan Administration!!!!

That's not even ICE hockey, it's ROLLER hockey.

NU's merchandise can best be described in one word... CRAPPY.

There's not enough demand to mass market the stuff in retail stores, and the stuff that's in retail stores generally is buried among Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, Harvard, BC, and some BU stuff.

Our website has terrible merchandise and the stuff in the bookstore isn't much better.

I get most of my NU stuff from the Athletic Department. I guess being a donor has its privileges.

I think I'm going to start buying stuff directly from the athletic dept. because most of the stuff sold in the book store is crap. I also went to many of the sports stores around the Grand Strand and to my suprise the only place that had any Coastal stuff was LIDS in the mall. The guys at the other stores said that they would carry them but the "rights" to sell CCU stuff was too expensive. What the hell?

Retro would be a good person to chime in on this since he sells athletic merchandise. But I think the royalties are supposed to be paid be the manufacturer unless you get a custiom order. I don't think there are any special 'rights'.

Yes, royalties are actually paid for by the maker of the product. Any legal retailer can sell any schools merchandise as long as go through the proper channels.
