Actually you won't be...you'll be FBS doing the transition. From the article:

Coastal announced it was joining the Sun Belt effective July 1, 2016. The Chanticleers must go through a two-year transition period before becoming post-season eligible.

I'm with you there. The tech they created it with looks old enough to drive. I'm hoping they have some decent imagination and artistic style in the final product. I like the walkway on the near end zone with the sun shades. They added something similar in their new baseball stadium and it is pretty cool.

It will be tough to bring in quality OOC opponents with a sub 25k capacity. There have been exceptions but in general it certainly won't help the cause.

I used https://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

Based on where the field ends to where the rendering drops the top row of seats vs existing landscaping you're looking about being between 70-75 yards from the field and a long way up from the field as well.

By contrast it's only 30 yards to the end of the current seating set up.

Only way to counter that is to make it pretty steep...that's not attractive for people over about 40, families with kids, or most general fans that CCU is going to want to build

clenz
December 15th, 2015, 09:34 AM
By contrast, Michigan Stadium seats over 110K...

It's 72 yards from field to last row....

72 yards from field to last row of a 21k seat stadium is not a good look

CCU should talk to Tulane and see how they got a 30k seat stadium in the square footing of an existing practice field. Didn't even need to touch the houses right off of the back side of the it.

Most importantly, how will they raise the $40 million to pay for this? Assuming it really costs $40 million and doesn't balloon to $60 million.

Remember, no financial plan was submitted to the Sun Belt, and no financial plan was discussed in public, debated or approved prior to their acceptance to the Sun Belt.

Penny Sales tax most likely. Very successful in Horry County. Has paid $400,000,000 just for road repairs and construction, it has also given millions to Horry Georgetown Technical College and CCU. Really can't even see the tax, but with all of the tourists generates a ton of revenue. The money is given to the school and is up to them to spend as they seem fit.

So the residents of Horry County and the property owners in Horry County are going to build you a new stadium? NOT LIKELY BRO. I am a property owner in Horry County and I'll burn my beach house down before I give a goddamn nickle to USC-Coastal. 41-38!

You are correct, no property taxes. I'm not sure if any of it will be used for the stadium but the tax he refers to is a penny sales tax for education of which we get about 13%. It has actually decreased / offset the mils of education construction on property taxes.

This is second hand information, but the initial funding is coming from a bond from the state. The administration seems to think the bond is all but guaranteed.

EDIT: The bond also includes funding for a raise for faculty and staff, woo-hoo!

It always perplexed me that schools have so many resources at their fingertips, and they don't utilize them. Your telling me you couldn't get an engineering student, graphing designer student, or even an art student to come up with something better?

Yulman Stadium sucks though. Everything you read on the AAC board, minus the fact it's on campus, suggests it's the worst stadium the league. The original TV camera setup was so bad after the stadium opened last year that the school was forced to reconfigure the stations throughout the stadium.

I Temple's new stadium gets approved it will require shoehorning a 35k+ seat stadium into a two city block area.

Yulman does look odd from pictures I've seen of it, and until now hadn't realized just how tight of an area they crammed it into. I've never watched a Tulane home game on TV either, so I can't speak to that.

I'm hoping it's a bad rendering. To be that far from the field in a stadium that seats just 21k is a bad design from the start, and will keep fans from coming to the game.
