For any Charleston Southern fans traveling into Jacksonville for the game. Below is a link for you... For hotels, your best bet is to stay in Oxford, AL, right on I-20, as the Hilton Harden Inn, Hampton Inn, and a few other decent hotels are there. There is a Hampton Inn in Jacksonville, but your team may be staying there. If you stay in Oxford, just head west on Hwy 78 to Hwy 431/21. Go north, thru downtown Anniston, and take the 21N split (stay straight) and head up to JSU. Once you pass the Jville square, Mountain St. will be on your left at Burger King...

Anyway... Struts, Jefferson's, and Cooter Brown's are good places to eat and get good beer. Struts has a great selection of local craft beers in b&c, and a decent draft selection. Mellow Mushroom and all your fast casual chains are all in Oxford, but J'ville's local flare is worth eating at on Friday afternoon then going to the game. As far as parking, there are plenty of houses along Mountain St. (Where the stadium is) in which you can park for $5 - $10 bucks... Enjoy, and welcome to Jacksonville.

Not sure about the QB situation. Starter played terrible early and 2nd stringer got popped on his first play. Starter went back in for a series but we ended up going to the 3rd stringer. Never really saw the starter take a hit, but the articles said he was getting sick in pregame and may have suffered a concussion????? I expect the starter to be ready to go Friday and the 3rd string QB will be the backup. Funny thing about the 3rd stringer is that he was the Big South Freshman of the Year a few years back. He's had some shoulder issues which is why he's where he is on the depth chart. He's actually a really good QB, but having shoulder issues makes it tough on him.

No. I don't think we've played a spread option team since Georgia Tech many moons ago. I'm sure our guys are preparing for it though. Could be an interesting first quarter.

Well Charleston Southern has a good defense, they've broken, but they played good D all year. Chattanooga has a defense, a little down, but still good. Jacksonville state has a good defense, they aren't playing well. But their offense is at another level than what it has ever been right now. Their explosive ability is putting pressure on the opposing defense as well as their own.

Jacksonville State has some ballers. Their OL is beastly which makes tracking down Jenkins and Pope extremely difficult. I can't see either SHSU or Colgate beating them....

He has done a hell of a job completely changing the culture of a football program and building it up. His teams come to play every single week and do so for 60 minutes. Unfortunately even though he has still has had very good success, his teams have arguably underachieving because of his lack of success in winning tight games. He desperately wanted to win this game, probably for his son more than anything, and another one slipped through his fingers in agonizing fashion. So, yes, anything was going to set him off and Grass' perceived slight did set him off in the moment. Call it classless, sore loser, whatever you want. What does that have to do with us being soft again?

How big is the band? I know NDSU ends up announcing their paid attendance, which ends up being 99% capacity/less than regular season, but it will always end up being 3-400 lower than a regular season game because they don't count the band.

There was still an easy 4-6,000 empty seats in that stadium. Even when we had 23,400 for TSU the stadium never looked packed out.

I hope winning the NC this year will boost our attendance again so we can figure out just how many we can really pack into Burgess-Snow. xthumbsupx

I have no idea, it was a swag guess based on how much of a section they occupy in the stands. I can text my lil bro to see how many members they have. Marching bands are not that big of a deal up here and it hurts the numbers (not a lot of marching in ND....)

I was thinking 200-ish. They are entertaining. Definitely better than most OVC bands. The OVC has the Southerners, The Aristocrats, Murray, and that is about it. NDSU looks similar in size and style to TTU.

This discussion makes me wonder: Would there be enough interest among AGSers for an FCS marching bands sub-forum? I think the best bands in the country are all in FCS: Jax State, Western Carolina, James Madison, Tennessee State ... I'm sure there are others I should be mentioning. I would enjoy having a dedicated place to learn more about these groups, and I imagine others would, too.

Frisco puts the bands in the endzone (at least they have now that they sell out the seats...dunno if they were in the endzone when it didn't sell out for EWU/Delaware). They travel to one away game per year plus Frisco if the Bison make it.

I wouldn't go by the video anyway....there are different portions of the band that are missing in formations each game. Its not a full time job for a lot of them.

I went looking for video this week to see what the band situation is like at Frisco. An Illinois State drummer posted this from their trip last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS8cjvE1DF8 It's clips from the whole trip, but toward the end you can see the end zone seating for the bands. Looks like a covered stage with bleachers. The Southerners would take up a whole lotta room there.

How big is SHSU's band? Both teams that play in the FCS natty share the same amount of bleacher space in the endzone. I would be curious if they allow the whole band to travel, or if they end up keeping a portion home (underclassmen/people not able to make trip?)
