Who needs more than 1 O-lineman when you have 2 kickers and 4 QBs? xlolx

No doubt. Kind of seems like they put any freshman who actually played on the team to fill it out. Might be a waste of time but whatever.

I've never understood the point of an all-"newcomer" team.

all-freshman, I get. But there is a big difference between a freshman in his first (or second, with a redshirt year) season out of high school, and someone transferring in as a junior or senior after having played for a few years at an FBS (or another FCS) school.

True...a "newcomer" could be like Aaron Stecker...started for 2 years at Wisconsin, was good there, but reduced to non-starting role with the emergence of eventual Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne, transferred to Western for final 2 years and proceeded to destroy Gateway (now MVFC) rushing records. I don't think he should be considered a "newcomer".

I think a "newcomer" should be either a freshman, redshirt freshman, or someone who transferred in from another school after starting less than...idk, maybe 1/2 the games in one season (or maybe not starting any games...not sure where that line would be). That would include a player like our QB Norvell, when he first came to Western (and was on the conference all-newcomer team that year) after redshirting a year at Cincinnati. I could also see it being someone who sat behind a starting player at a big FBS school for a year or two, maybe played a little as a backup, but didn't ever get a starting role or any significant playing time (would UNI's QB Bailey fit that...I don't think he started much, if any, games at Illinois when he was there).

6 guys in the secondary? Maybe we should have tried that.
