Exactly...how do people not see this crap? JSU/CCU play unranked teams and are consistently unimpressive, ISUr beats a ranked team by 20 and yea...just doesn't make sense. They gained 14 1st place votes and only gained 126 points. (14 1st place votes is 250 points.) Just shocking...then looking at the others...smdh.

I (of course) think WM is also too low, but if I'm going to give the voters credit (which I'm hesitant to do) it's that our wins over UNH and Nova don't look quite as impressive given how they've tailed off. Depending on how JMU does without Vad Lee, our rivalry game with Richmond at the end of the season could be for the conference title.

I'm fine with JSU above ISU, don't agree, but JSU is rolling through their schedule like a top team should. But Coastal is not. The only way I could see putting Coastal above ISU is if you strictly just look at W/L records when filling out your poll.

JSU gave up a grand total of -2 yards total offense in the first half. Gave up a total of 80 something in the game with 3rd stringers in the second half. Understand you not having respect for our conference but its hard to play much better defensively.

I have no problem with your ranking, but that's like Illinois State bragging about whooping up on Morgan State earlier this year, a W we waltzed through and somehow still dropped in the polls. It's lazy voting when you drop an Illinois State for taking care of business earlier in the season, but don't drop a Coastal for a subpar W against inferior talent AFTER Illinois State beats it's 3rd ranked team of the year.

At least you guys had the close loss at Auburn and beat a ranked Chattanooga.

I understand that you can get a clearer picture in basketball, just due to the number of games played. However, if one plays and beats 4 teams in your own poll and hangs with a top 10 FBS squad and look at other résumés in comparison and you still ignore the whole "body of work" concept that basketball seems to embrace....it just nullified the whole damn poll because it means nothing to be better than the teams on it.
And shame on the AGS pollsters who voted JMU over Richmond. JMU got got.

How? The statement was no better than 7th in the MVFC so how does playing another ranked team in their own conference do something for you? It takes you down further if anything.

To be fair that WIU game was close. Coastal scored 14 in the 4th to win. WIU will end up as a top 4-5 MVFC team, so Coastal isn't that bad. However, they would struggle to qualify for the playoffs from MVFC. I ranked them at 6 because there aren't many good teams, and they beat WIU. I think 8-12 might be a good place for them.

Possibly true, seems fairly logical and I could agree with it. That is not the statement I was responding to though. It was the overly reactionary MVFC **** that we get treated to a little too often.

They beat a quality team in WIU and I don't care when or how it happened really. WIU will likely tie for 3rd in the conference. Could be wrong but the "luck to be..." crap from the new CAA gets real f'n old all the time.

There is a lot wrong with this poll, but I'll focus on just one aspect:

Dropping both JMU and SDSU as far as they did for losing close games to ranked opponents is pretty ridiculous, especially considering the teams that moved up who squeaked by relatively poor opponents over the weekend.

ElCid

Guess we will see this week when they play CSU.

I guess I am at a loss as well. What will this show? As much as I loath to admit it, Chuck South has it going. CSU had 1 bad game at Troy, who I think they could have beat, it just got away from them as FBS games do. They have one pretty good game beating us. Although we have picked up the pace since and I don't think we would lose now. They have a very good D, but the O could use some work. CSU is more than capable of beating CCU this weekend who, as mentioned, beat Western Illinois. And it would not be a serious upset.

Now does CCU deserve consideration for #1? Another question entirely. I do not have them as #1 but I think they are arguably top 5 and easily top 10. Being 7-0 gets you that. They have a better SOS in both Sagarin and Massey than both McNeese or Sammy. So they are not bottom of the barrel at least in scheduling for teams highly ranked (<15). For their OOC, CCU scheduled 1 game apiece from the SOCON, MEAC, MVFC, Northeast, and SWAC. Not perfect but not bad either. About the most we will see come Saturday is who will get the Big South auto bid, most likely.

Honestly ISUR is the best team in the FCS right now and I don't think #2 is close at the moment. To have CCU and even JSU over them is a absolute joke and pure lazy slot voting. ISU's only loss is to an undefeated FBS team. They've since beat a number of solid teams.

I'll admit they're a paper tiger. Worst schedule in FBS. But at some point they can only go so high. Will be hard to justify them being ranked over more tested teams. Worst case, the Big 10 championship game will tell us what they really are.....if Iowa makes it there.

There is a reason they are barely beating bad teams. Playing someone else legitimate, will give a more accurate view of where they belong.
