SLC Standings:

McNeese 6-0----- at ACU, SHSU home, at Lamar
Sam Houston 5-1----- (Texas A&M Commerce), at McNeese, NWST home, at UCA
UCA 4-1----- SLU home, SFA home, at Nicholls, SHSU home
SLU 3-2----- at UCA, UIW home, at ACU, Nicholls home
*UIW 3-2----- NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CONFERENCE TITLE- at SFA, at SLU, Lamar home, at HBU
Lamar 2-3----- at HBU, Nicholls home, at UIW, McNeese home
SFA 2-3----- UIW home, at UCA, HBU home, at NWST
………… out of conference race………………
ACU 2-4
Nicholls 1-4
NWST 1-4
HBU 0-5

Talk about a conference clearing week!:D

McNeese- So far undefeated and has only one team that has shown will possibly challenge them. A win this week by McNeese will eliminate Lamar and SFA from the conference race. Only 2 games left for McNeese and 3 losses by those two teams already.

Sam Houston- Still has two tough road games! If the Bearkats are able to win AT McNeese they will face a similar team in Conway. But the Bearkats still have a non-conference Texas A&M Commerce game this week.

UCA- Plays a struggling SLU but SLU has had the bears number the past two years. This will be a TOUGH game. Then comes SFA to Conway. Get past those two and Nicholls should be a win IMO. Finally what might be a conference spoiler or share of the championship. Not counting ANY chickens with all the injuries to all the starters.

SLU- A loss this weekend in Conway or a win by McNeese likely ends any conference title three-peat hopes. Three very winnable games after that though.

UIW- Playing for the best record they can get, nothing else.

Lamar- A win by McNeese puts a conference title statistically out of reach…unless the Cowboys drop 3 in a row.

SFA- Same situation as Lamar plus the Lumberjacks visit Conway in two weeks. Tough going.

My predicted conference records AFTER this week: (Remember this is all speculative… not solid stone fact! )

9 CONFERENCE GAMES

McNeese 7-0
SAM 5-1
UCA 5-1
………….. out of conference race………..
SLU 3-3
UIW 3-3
Lamar 3-3
SFA 3-3

Tossup game: UIW at SFA.

Spoiler team: SFA- Can ruin UCA’s shot at sharing conference title (if SHSU beats McNeese).

TIE: SHSU defeating McNeese can share the title with them.

Second Spoiler: UCA can give SHSU second loss giving McNeese outright title. If SHSU beats McNeese and UCA beats SHSU then UCA and McNeese will share title and McNeese gets the autobid. Plus 3 teams get to the playoffs!

Again this is all speculative and upsets happen and sometimes the matchups aren't about records at all but about the players. Don't take this as the final say in any way. Just one perspective.

Let's look at conference leaders:Conference only.

Sam is leading scoring offense at 48 points per game.
McNeese is leading scoring defense at 12 points per game.
Sam is getting 533 yards per game.
UCA and McNeese are allowing 300 yards per game.
Lamar is rushing for about 300 yards per game.
McNeese is allowing 70 YPG rushing.
Sam is leading in all 4 Passing categories, offense, efficiency, defense, defense efficiency.
McNeese leads in kick off return average of nearly 30 per.
UCA leads in punt return average.
UCA leads in interceptions.
McNeese leads in sacks.
Lamar has the least sacks against them...2. (After 5 games that's impressive)
McNeese and UCA are holding the ball for over 33 minutes per game. ( 6 seconds separates the two )

This cannot be true!!!! Maybe it's because we can't stop the run. We are probably last in run defense.

According to the southland website under "conference only" stats the Bearkats are leading all 4!

Not much distance between the Shemons and Nicholls. It might turn out to be an interesting game.
