Although he's not the best speaker, you would think he's the obvious choice for the guest picker alongside the gameday crew. Charles was already going to be present as we were honoring his HOF induction at this game.

Most fans seem to want it on godwin field with the APC and stadium in the background, but the quad is a good second location and will provide more space that they may need.
Either way, we're the top party school in VA and tickets are going fast. We'll represent FCS well and I hope this is a regular trend for FCS schools nationwide. Thank you NDSU for helping to get this started.

this is what i want, also. i think we'll be overruled, however. BigHouse, think we're looking at the quad. we should know for sure in the next day or two. i'm willing to bet it will be on the quad. it frees up valuable tailgating space for high paying donors, it's a wide-open area with iconic Wilson Hall in the background. i'm fairly certain it will be there.

If you want to get on TV the earlier you get there the better, just more options where you want to stand.

They will set up a main stage as well as a fake football field area they conduct interviews from. The second location maybe an option to stand if the crowd behind the main stage is filling up, and it gets a lot of air time through out the show.

They also set up a zip line like camera that goes from the stage to the back end of the crowd. They will pan the crowd before each commercial break. Positioning yourself below that would also be a good move.

If you make a sign, be clever and funny. And if you want to generate some buzz, it should be appealing to your average college football fan. JMU is #1 signs won't get a lot people's attention.

Personally, I never really cared to get on TV, so I just showed up when the show started and stood in the back. It's kinda boring, I left early both times and watched the show from a bar right next to the show. But the more people that show up the better it looks for JMU.

Tips from IBY, who went both years in Fargo.

1. Get there early. Since ours was downtown, we literally had people rolling out at bar close (2 am) and into line....those poor guys. I can't imagine how tired they were.
2. If you want to have a stick or pole attached to your sign, you won't be in the "pit" or fenced in area. I would honestly suggest going on Friday night and seeing if there is a location where you can have a stick attached sign and still have a shot of being in the background. Sticks save your arms and make it easier to get higher than anyone else.
3. If you want to get into the pit: remember, no markers, no marker boards, you can have multiple signs, but they will have to see each sign before they let you in. If you have any twitter @'s you'r bad, twitter #'s are okay normally. I personally didn't go in the pit either year and had more fun outside of it.
4. The Coke Zero fanzone gets on TV a LOT, try to position yourself around it. For NDSU this was opposite of the main stage, and was close to the mockup football field stage. Choose your poison carefully.
5. They will have a huge board that will show the broadcast from either side so if you can't see the hosts very well don't worry.
6. You WILL NOT be able to hear a majority of what's going on.
7. Lee Fitting is awesome and does a great job, he will coach everyone on what they want you to do. Listen closely because he's normally the only one you can hear.
8. Last year they had a DJ that helped with the crowd, I wasn't a huge fan of her, but many others liked her since commercial breaks aren't the best.
9. They are going to talk about FBS, not FCS, and only a little about JMU. You guys are going to be a backdrop for them to talk about FBS. Enjoy the show, make sure you show up huge, and remember that they just want to have a good looking background. It sucks, but that's the truth...there still isn't anything cooler than watching Corso put on your schools head at the end.
10. Herbie and Rece Davis WILL do their homework. Expect them to play the "homer" card with you guys, and enjoy having them pump you up. I'm not sure how Rece will be since we had Fowler both years, but I'd bet he'll be out and about the night before and you can have some good pictures or maybe even buy him a drink if you have good bars.

11. Enjoy this ****. I thought it was once in a lifetime, and it ended up being TWICE in a lifetime, but I still think there is nothing cooler than having a bunch of Bison, or Dukes that are in the background of one of ESPN's most popular shows, talking about college football with your University sitting in the background. It's pretty special.

Congrats again JMU! You guys deserve it and I'd bet Herbie might give you guys a "these might be the guys to dethrone the mighty Bizzzzzonnnn!" or something like that. xthumbsupx

#10 could not be more accurate. Getting desmond to not talk about Michigan is like having mashed potatoes without gravy. It just doesn't happen, and don't be surprised if he tries to bring it back so that Michigan is the highlight of every show.

It was cool seeing Fitting at the bars as well as Fowler. They are just your "average" guys looking to see what makes your town special and why is it worth it to be here. Down to earth kind of guys and from what I've heard about Davis is he is just Fowler 2.0 in that aspect. This cannot be stated enough, but just have fun since who knows if you will ever get it again. I sure as hell didn't think NDSU would get it let alone a 2nd time in 2 years. Excited to see how JMU does Gameday.

Even though I'm not a Temple alumnus, I also hope GameDay is held on Temple's campus. My attitude is let the Temple students and general community experience the excitement and attention of having GameDay come to their school. Besides, from what I've read GameDay will come back to Philadelphia for the Army/Navy game on 12/12. THAT is when it would be appropriate to hold GameDay on Independence Mall.

That's the thing I think about at a lot of FCS venues. Wasnt a problem at all in Fargo, probably won't be at JMU either. But there are a lot of places (chattanooga, possibly most of all) where it would be a few fcs fans and a ton of FBS fans.

Hats off to Lee Fitting and his team, there are a lot of wonderful FCS fan bases and venues and it's nice to see College Gameday spotlighting them. Let's hope things work out and they can do it every year

I know I'm not supposed to do this, but I gotta give JMU props. Great atmosphere, many great signs.

I like the new helmet - curious to see if they unveil a full throwback uniform this afternoon.

Corso is an odd duck though. What the heck was he doing with that cigar? And maybe I'll be corrected by JMU fans, but he kept calling them the "Duke Dogs." My brother's a JMU alum and I've never heard him call them that.

I have not posted in years, but I was laughing every time Corso called the Dukes the Duke Dogs. NO ONE calls them that. I don't think he understood that they're the "Dukes" but have an English bulldog in a regal outfit as a mascot.

Lots of big injuries in this game. I hope they are all just bumps and bruises, so both teams get back at it next week.

JMU back-up is from the Scranton area. Schor went to a really good jucco, Lackawanna. He was a darn good player in HS1 This is going to be a great finish.

That back up is pretty strong!!!! Not Vad Lee, but he would start on most FCS squads.

UR's offense is good, but didn't expect this.......even VMI held UR's offense to 35 points.

Our QB Lauletta is a RS So, just started his 7th career game, he keeps getting better. Vad Lee and JMU are for real they will be a handful for anybody. Lee hurt his left ankle and couldn't finish the game, I hope he is back, he is a pleasure to watch, just not a pleasure to play against. Richmond plays that bend but not break D, Vad Lee makes things happen. Congrats to the Dukes for a well played game, hope we don't meet again this year unless it's in the NC.

Espn sports analyst and Richmond grad Todd McShay had a right on Friday Gameday session when he said "What in the world is JMU thinking about by inviting their rival Richmond Spiders to Homecoming. Spiders lead the series 17 - 15, won the National Championship in 2008 and JMu in 2004 and Richmond has been consistently a nationally ranked team!! And JMU picks them for Homecoming? This is inviting disaster!"

Now we know why Todd is Espn's top analyst. Spiders are now 18-15 all-time vs JMU, should be ranked ahead of jmu, leads the CAA. GameDay was really fun and a great success......but the loss by the Home Team Dukes was a disaster just as McShay suggested!

Actually, I think it was 28. UR had 2 pick 6's in that game IIRC.

As I mentioned in another post, Lauletta is getting better every week. Our running game was a very pleasant surprise with Seth Fisher out.
UR simply had to keep scoring yesterday. In prior games they were able to coast.

Wish JMU could've gotten some pressure at him at any point during the game. Always next year I guess. 4 man rush hasn't worked all year for JMU and they were determined to make it happen last night for some reason. Got burned by a good QB.

Temple had a tough act to follow and they're not giving much of an effort. Seems like a church service out there compared to last week.

I'm assuming Independence Hall is nowhere near their campus? It may be a Philly icon, but when you have things off campus, inconvenient for students and alumni alike... it's not surprising there isn't much of a turnout.
The logistics of getting to the center of a major city seems daunting alone. I hate going to big cities. Give me the countryside any day of the week.

That's absolutely the probem! Not having it on campus completely took away the Temple aspect. The other issue is security. From what I gather due to Independence Mall's protected government status there are a few more hoops to jump through than usual.

This where it should have been! Our quad isn't JMU nice but it would have had way more energy!

Based on the overhead there's plenty of people there, just not a lot of energy (ay least not in comparison to last week).

On a related note, the Philly Phanatic is the guest picker today... should be good.

Virginia Tech fans and players are trying a social media campaign similar to what JMU was able to accomplish. They want CGD to be there for beamer's final home game right before he "retires". I think there's approximately 10 more marquee games that week, including Ohio State/Michigan.

They're a once proud BCS program with history and this is a whole new level of low for them.
