Better than Georgia State's Panther.

I wonder, should we start considering age of mascot and logo as new side items in terms of program length? You know, to help break ties for when two schools are founded the same year?

By the way, I rather like the new EIU logo

Looks like Penn State's Nittany Lion. But I like the upgrade. Now incorporate more gray and get rid of that hideous black in your uni's.

Ooooh, that's nice. When's it officially rolling out? You going to have that on BBall unis this winter? Or do we get to "break it in" on new football uniforms next fall?

I really like it. Much bette than the old one. Cleaner look not as busy.

It does, however, look a lot like Penn State's Nitany Lion.

Either way a great upgrade for EIU.

It's no Chicken Statue in front of your stadium's gate, but it will have to do.

The new logo will be on the helmets on Sat. against SEMO.

Wow, getting them out there fast. I'm about 75% sure I'll be at the season opener down at Charleston next year, so I look forward to seeing them in person.

They may have to paint the panther in front of Marty's white.

And what about Billy Panther.

So the few people on this board love it, yet based on what I've read on social media the majority of the EIU student body hates it. It's not horrible, but I kinda wanted something better.

It's definitely a little different. Not sure what they were thinking, but I've seen worse.

Liked the old one. Not so much the new one. And I agree with the person above who recommended getting rid of the black on the jerseys.

In general I like black jerseys but I think the other colors need to be a significant contrast. Not black and dark blue.

EIU fell victim to the same thing UNI did in the late 90s and early 00s.

The modern flying head with letters under it logo.

UNI pulled it off better than EIU, but not by a ton. Almost every team/school has moved on. UNI is one of a the few left with it, and sadly I don't see it changing any time soon

A couple to prove my point

I'll stop there, but you get the point. 99% of those were between 2000 and 2010. The logos that came after and still used this copy, paste, change colors logo should be ashamed. Especially when nearly all of them had some previous logo that, with a few modern upgrades (see Detroit, Philly and Golden State) would have been glorious.

Sorry for the logo wall. Logos, along with silly sports trivia, is "my thing"

I like the new version, much better than the old one.

As a side note, the current CCU logo is far better than the old Corn Flakes rooster. Even if it does have testicles on its chin.

Panther is generic term for the family of mountain lions, jaguars, catamounts, pumas, etc...

Most will call it a mountain lion if it's golden in color but the exact same creature a panther if black. It's a melanin thing

I was watching an episode of Monster Quest and I am pretty sure the black "panther" (mountain lion) does not exist. The only black cat will be a Leopard.

More or less accurate.

Black variations of all exist but are vey, very, rare. Jaguars are much more likely to have the color variation. Many actually are only about 70% black and their jaguar spots are still visible.

The "panther" and wolverine are the animals of my two favorite teams, but also two creatures that fascinate the hell our of me, so I've done more reading than any normal 27 year old should

the old one looks like a crappy hand puppet with some sort of head band ties going down its neck. also, the team name looks like they are advertising some sort of ride at a carnival or crappy amusement park.

All of which were drawn by my daughter at preschool

The Panther in the new logo looks more dangerous, which is what I think you want in a logo. It also looks a lot more like my favorite NFL team the Carolina Panthers' logo, though not quite enough like it to claim EIU is "copying" Carolina. So I'd vote for the new one.

71% disapprove
13% approve
16% are on the fence

i hope 71% wanted something better rather than liking the cave painting old mascot
