I remember this game! Ol Tubby really laid one on West Chester....

69. Football: Delaware 84, West Chester 0
Sept. 23, 2000: The Blue Hens lead the football series 47-6-2 over their Pennsylvania neighbors, and the 2000 game was particularly one-sided. Down 78-0 with 1:30 left, West Chester went to work in hopes of ruining the shutout. After converting a fourth-and-10 to reach the Delaware 9-yard line, the Golden Rams called timeout with four seconds left. On the final play, however, Mike Adams scored for Delaware on a 97-yard pick-six.

Yeah, next time don't call time out just to break the shutout. Starters were out by halftime, West Chester was just a shell of the program they were in the 90's and the 80's.

Delaware wasn't trying to run the score in that one, the team only threw 13 passes in the entire game (only 9 by starting QB Matt Nagy) and by the end of the game had a third string runningback behind center. The problems were that West Chester couldn't stop the run and Tubby didn't want to insult them by throwing the ball, so 57 rushing attempts led to 443 yards on the ground, and West Chester couldn't hold onto the ball, there were six interceptions and two fumbles lost by the Golden Rams. Delaware had a pretty solid defense, that was the third straight home shutout, they shutout Northeastern in the next game to make it 4 straight, and no opponent scored a point in Newark until James Madison (in a loss) on October 28th.

That was a really good Delaware team. The Hens spent much of the year ranked in the Top 2 iirc. I think they might have been GSU's biggest threat that year. GSU ended up beating Delaware at the Tub in the semi's iirc.

I was at the Lehigh-UD playoff game in 2000. UD got payback from the previous year. That was damn good Lehigh team too...

Nova played WC 3 years prior with similar results. Led 64-0 going into the half and the game was called at that point due to lightning. WC coach was quoted after the game saying ``They wanted to call it right away, but I didn't want to go home with our tails between our legs,''

They sure got a taste of their own medicine in December of that year...

Here's the worst blowout I've seen:

First quarter drives:

NDSU 1st D00 13:13 Punt D00 13:13 * TOUCHDOWN 0-00 0:00
NDSU 1st D00 10:36 Punt D00 10:36 * TOUCHDOWN 0-00 0:00
NDSU 1st B50 08:29 Int. D00 06:18 * TOUCHDOWN 5-50 2:11
NDSU 1st D04 00:00 Int. D00 05:24 . Fumble... 0-04 0:00
NDSU 1st D00 04:20 Punt D00 04:20 * TOUCHDOWN 0-00 0:00
NDSU 1st D44 03:06 Punt D00 01:28 * TOUCHDOWN 3-44 1:38
NDSU 1st D00 00:26 Int. D00 00:26 * TOUCHDOWN 0-00 0:00

NDSU ran 8 offensive plays and scored 6 TDs. The "drive" that ended in a fumble was on an INT return that a Bison player fumbled into the other team's end zone (turning a TD into a touchback) so it could have been worse. The other team killed us in TOP though.

I'm guessing the cheerleaders went in starting the 2nd quarter? xlolx
