Drake with 7 pts?

They should give Drake about 100 of UND's votes after watching that second half. Yuck.

That's a pretty fair poll overall. My comments
- not completely sold on Jacksonville State. Obviously played well on Saturday, but I'm going to need to see some more before cementing them at #1 the rest of the year.
- SDSU should be #4 moving the rest down a peg. Should be a good game in a few weeks
- Cal Poly too low
- Some of the teams in the others receiving votes category make you just shake your head

Cementing them at #1? seems like an odd comment. They are #1 because they beat UTC and took Auburn to overtime. Pretty impressive start.

I agree on Cal Poly being too low. Guess we'll see more about them on Saturday.

I look forward to seeing our run defense against a team that runs every play

I say cementing them there because they could run the table from here on out. Have a few tough games at the end of the year, but they could realistically run the table. If they do, it's hard to move them out of that #1 slot.

That being said, there isn't any other clear #1s yet, so it's not too big of a deal

If they win out, why remove them from the #1 spot? It would take someone else winning out to even consider it.

I'd be careful what you wish for. They're a damn frustrating team to watch your team play against. Also watch the FB dive. xbangx

Experts are predicting a wide open year in the FCS. Should be fun as everybody may get votes for no. 1 before the year is out.

They could realistically play the rest of the season without facing another ranked team. Not that it is their fault however. But there is a ton of season ahead of us.

I think that locking any team into the #1 spot at now is a giant mistake. But then again I see 4 or 5 that have a legit claim(maybe more) to that #1 spot. Just my view of how things sit right now.

I just said I can't wait to see it.

This year so far UNI's run defense is allowing 1.8 yards per carry (I in no way expect that to continue). With losing Xavier Williams to the NFL and Mac O'Brien to graudation I want to see how our new DTs eat up blocks and space.

High expectations for the UNI run defense are a normal thing
14 - 3.0 ypc
13 - 3.2 ypc
12 - 3.7 ypc
11 - 4.0 ypc
10 - 3.1 pc
09 - 2.9 ypc
08 - 3.2 ypc
07 - 3.1 ypc

That's 3.2 ypc since 2007. Not bad to consistently be in the lower 1/3 of the 3s for YPC given up.

That's the point, no one is locking them into that spot.

Gotcha...one of my frustration with slot voting, and you can tell that alot of media/coaches polls have voters that do that. They don't look at everything as a whole before they vote.

Yeah, I don't have issues even later in the season with Team A, who won the previous week, leapfrogging Team B, who also won the previous week, (even for the #1 spot) if I think that Team A has shown to have a more impressive body of work after their most recent win. I think you're creating unnecessary problems for yourself if you don't allow yourself to do that at any point in the season.

Like others have said Cal Poly seems too low. They beat Montana in Missoula and gave Arizona State all they could handle for the entire game.

That's what I'm saying. If JSU wins out, even over the next 3 weeks, it takes someone else winning out to even consider jumping them. :)

Someone edumacate me:

Is slot voting when you choose a preseason poll, then only move people up or down when they win/lose? Alternatively, what does slot voting mean to you?

I'd consider it only allowing yourself to move a team up or down so many spots from where they were in your previous week's poll given what that team did that week regardless of what all the other teams you're comparing them against have done.

Yes. Only moving people up or down a certain number of slots based on wins or losses. In the past some people have had a maximum number of slots you could move in a week.

The last possession right before half that ended up 4th and 40 was painful to watch. After they punted that away I decided I would find another game to watch.

Yup.

This team won so they move up. This team lost they move down. The worst of the worst limit the number of spots someone can move up or down

If you don't score much, it won't matter. CP's defense wasn't supposed to be good, but they've looked pretty solid so far.

Also, many teams with good run Ds don't do well against the option. For example: the Griz with Kraig Paulson as defensive coordinator.
