After exchanges of two SUU punts around a Jacks punt, Lujan tosses a 21 spear to TE Cam Jones. Then Mengarelli hits another off-tackle seam for a gain of 11. Jacks to SUU 35. Jacks starting to really pound it. Lujan to Wesley for 1st down at 20. Mengarelli follows blocks for 5 then 4. Heavy package, direct snap to Mengarelli. Wieneke pass to 3. 3rd /goal from 3. Wallace in the heavy package. Red Sea parting by SDSU O-line and heavies and Wallace jogs in. SDSU up 41-7 at 13:02. I'd think its time for 2nds/3rds from here out for Jacks.

Jacks pop up kick to 28 and cover since T-Birds weren't ready for that. Incomplete to Wieneke, then delay of game Jacks while argue about the reason for no PI on pass. Lujan to Wieneke to pushed out at 2 yd line. False start Jacks back to 7. 11th reception by Wieneke, now at 204 yd receiving, I believe the announcers saying new SDSU single game receiving record. 48-7 at 11:48 4th qtr.

A 'panoramic' picture of SDSU's Coughlin-Alumni Stadium with about 10 minutes before kickoff and SDSU's Pride of the Dakotas band is on the field. Crowd still filling in. Final attendance count (we count butts in seats, not tickets sold -- I have four season tickets but one guy cancelled so only three were counted as they went in the gate) was 13,423.

IMG]http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/JackJD/091215%20panorama_zpsveiotacb.jpeg (http://s167.photobucket.com/user/JackJD/media/091215%20panorama_zpsveiotacb.jpeg.html)

Below: Picture of the south end of the stadium (student and band section) showing the new Daktronics scoreboard -- largest in an FCS stadium with the display area measuring 30-100 (that's what I've read). In the picture below, there are statistics displayed on either side of the game display. So, one can be looking at the stats on the left as they scroll by and watch the game live and replays in the middle section. However, the video display is not sectioned off so the entire 30 x 100 display can be used for anything -- See Rowdy Rabbit's "closeup" in the preceding post showing the Dactronic's "ads" on either side of the display.

Those openings on either side of the scoreboard are where the huge speakers are located. Those areas will be covered.

Above the game time, are three windows --- cameras are in those rooms. To give you an idea about the scale of the game time clock, judging from the size of the people in the window above the time clock, I estimate the numbers are at least eight-feet tall.

The band section is a little lower so that the band can stand without interfering with the view of the fans above or on either side of the band. Note the band section is designed so that the band can descend their section directly to the field.

The east side of the stadium is new...all numbered bleacher seats with backs. The west side of the stadium -- from which these two pictures were taken, is the old part of the stadium that will be torn down at the end of this season and new, higher (more rows), seating will be constructed, connecting to the four-story building now under construction behind the west stands.

Gotta admit a little jealous.

Would be awesome to watch a replay and actually be able to see it in detail.

I'm guessing you were at CAS prior to this year. We thought we had a big, very clear video display then...well, this one is considerably larger and clearer -- high HD quality. [If any reader doesn't know -- Daktronics is located in Brookings, SD, home of SDSU. It was started years ago by a couple of engineering professors.]

Here's another picture of the SDSU scoreboard on the south end of the field. This one was taken from the east stands about 30 to 40 minutes before game time as the students are starting to move into the stands. It shows a little more detail about the speakers, the windows for the camera room at the top and the manner in which the band section is configured.

Here are two pictures to give you an idea about the west side changes after this season is concluded, both taken yesterday about an hour before gametime. The first is a shot of the west stand showing the old press box at the top. You can see the superstructure for the building under construction behind the stands and it extends another floor above the old press box. The next picture shows a little more about the height of the new building under construction. When this season is concluded (which, I hope, is very late because we want to host playoffs :) ) the west stands will be removed and new stands constructed from the field up to the new building. There will be luxury boxes, press boxes and other premium seating. An artificial turf field will be installed too. Had to leave the grass in place this season because of the ongoing construction this summer etc. Incidently, the second picture shows a small bench. This stadium, like all stadiums constructed in the last couple of years, has a fair amount of alternative seating for handicap accessibility or other special needs. Like all old stadiums, Coughlin Alumni Stadium was sorely in need of more restrooms, concession areas and seating for handicapped people (I suppose when the old places were constructed in the 50s and 60s, people didn't contemplate tailgating and beer drinking or the fact that women may want to go to a game. The new Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium addresses all of the old stadium's shortcomings.)

mmiller: you'll have to get a new picture-signature! On the attendance: Yeah, the students were great. I was disappointed in the 13,4++. But, slowly and surely game day at Brookings is becoming a must-attend event. When the new stadium is completed next season,...well, I'm very optimistic about attendance.

I liked the new noise started by the students stomping their feet. And the students yelling back and forth from the east side (of the band section) to the west side shows some real promise and opportunities for some creative cheers.

Yep. UNI's video dimensions are what I listed.

To list a video board as the size of the structure is very misleading.

clenz
September 13th, 2015, 08:36 PM
If we are going structure size, UNI's board is probably 27x130ish. I don't count physical ads as part of the video board.

Replays, intro video, etc... are all shown on the full screen. During the play there are some ads on the side, just like SDSU likely does

I like getting the sports thing going for OOC for other sports. Growing up just an hour and a half from Brookings it's nice to see that series going.

Also, closed circuit to SDSU fans, if SDSU had dumped that kind of money and effort into basketball, volleyball, and baseball you'd have potentially been (would be) a short list for the MVC. At this point that ship has sailed, though. SDSU may likely have gotten enough support

I don't know about that.. Who did the MVC bring in recently? Loyola Chicago? It's clear the Valley is more concerned with large media markets. Brookings/Sioux Falls is not one of them. I think SDSU/NDSU has risen the profile of the Summit League and will continue to do so. Would it be sweet to be in the Valley with UNI, SIU, MSU, ISU's. Yes. But hopefully if there are ever movements anytime soon NDSU/SDSU remain a package deal.

Regardless, there will be major renos to Frost Arena to come. Stay tuned.

Loyola was a knee jerk reaction to losing a private, Jesuit, institution. They may turn into a productive member but they were not well received by anyone not in Illinois (or Evansville). They've also shown the market thing they sold to the MVC was a complete sham. 10 million people in the metro and they can't draw 500 people when a top 10 UNI or WSU come to town.

If any Dakota's would have been "welcomed" it would have been SDSU.
