Week 2 Score Thread 2015

Last week was a crazy but also an interesting one, with a wild finish in the FCS Kickoff 2015, 4 teams putting down their FBS opponents, an entirely new FCS program spoiling the comeback of a returning program, the first time in recent memory a full-scholarship FCS team losing to a PFL team and last week was also the first time in recent memory so many teams got first-place votes. Now, will more FBS upsets happen?

Tonight, 3 games involving FCS teams are scheduled.

I think it might be competition for fans as well. Depending on location and for some schools who have marginal programs, competing for attendance against some nearby FBS attention might be a consideration. Play on Thursday and you might have a little more attendance/attention than being one of a dozen games played on Saturday that get local attention. Not sure it works, but maybe.

I think it might be competition for fans as well. ETSU looked bigger, stronger, faster. Watched the game and I was constantly amazed at the way Maryville was able to hang in there and finally win. Kept thinking that ETSU would turn it on and win it going away, but it didn't happen. I know everything is new for the Bucs, but this is one they SHOULD have won IMO.

I think this is an issue at "suitcase schools". There are a lot of campi where many/most students pack their bags and go home on Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening. The hope is that playing on a Thursday will allow many of these students to attend the game.

The downside is that it is a major hassle for alumni with jobs, especially those from out of town.

I got home a little late to watch the game, but caught the first half and the last quarter on replay. I was surprised how good Maryville looked in comparison to ETSU. I thought that ETSU would wear them down and then run over Maryville with superior depth and conditioning. Instead it looked like Maryville had more.
