The defense still has to stop it. It's a good base play for the offense as any time it can erupt for a big gain, unlike the old ASU offense.

Not really. The key to any QB like Edwards, is to contain him. You know he can burn you either in the air or on the ground. You take one of those away and make him beat you with the other. For a defense coordinator, it makes the game a little more managable. But also alot of his performance today depended on what the OL did. Those guys aren't there, no matter who your QB is, is won't matter. Good win though.

Some of the guys on coastal have no class, a few of the players flicked me the bird when their bus went by on stadium drive.

billy riddle looks to be done I think i heard him say he tore something.
Kerry Brown had some kind of injury to his foot early, got it taped up

also, murrell didnt play a whole lot of the game and limped around all game and left for the lockerroom early at the half.

was getting worried there when we fumbled the ball late in the third or early 4th in our red zone on the kickoff. I think we were given the call there. he looked up when he lost it.

We need to work on our pass defense

Good game. Coastal's offense woke up in the second half. THey basically abandoned the run and still Thigpen was able to hit people. He had pressure, there were times when he was a fraction of a second from being crushed and looked like he was just throwing the ball away and was still able to complete the pass. Riddle going out with the ankle hurt us in the 2nd half. Plus, Coastal's line looked pretty good considering our D knew they were going to throw.

Couldn't see the overturned fumble well-enough from where I was to say one way or another, but for certain one interference penalty, maybe two, were phantom calls, and App had way too many legitimate penalties. The end around to Jackson was too pretty to be called back on a hold!

Coastal's fans were definitely loud and involved in the game, especially the second half (naturally).

I still haven't seen or heard the attendance number. Anyone?

Coastal's fans were definitely loud and involved in the game, especially the second half (naturally).

I still haven't seen or heard the attendance number. Anyone?
16K-something. It's been posted in one of the attendance threads.

I got to be the mascot today, crazy experience. I enjoyed the Appy fans, they had the proper level of smack to still have fun. The cheerleaders and mascot from appy were also very gracious to us, bringing us to the hall of fame suite for pizza at half time and the mock fight with y'all's mascot was fun as well. I enjoyed it despite the loss. I just wish we could have started with something, anything in the first half, but thats the breaks. I am proud of our guys and how they never gave up.

You guys are the real deal, no one can mess with those lines. No doubt you will be in Chattanooga in a few weeks.

Just got home from the game. Great game App State... you guys are the real deal. I definitely think you will be repeat National Champs. Even with the loss I had a lot of fun at the game and i'm glad I went. I am also glad that Coastal fans had a good showing since it was Thanksgiving break and a long drive. Great Job CCU on a great year I am proud to be a Chanticleer :D App State again... congrats, you guys are an amazing team! Good Luck the rest of the way. XoXo

My thoughts...

CCU-

CCU got hosed big-time on that fumble call. However, there were some pretty questionable calls going both ways. Officiating everywhere this season just seemed terrible to me. I think blind manatees could have done a better job than most of the officiating crews I've seen this season.

All sorts of records set tonight at The Rock, I believe. I read somewhere that Thigpen threw for 351 yards and three touchdowns, both good for the best numbers ever put up against the Mountaineers in a playoff game. I believe I read earlier in this thread that the attendance at KBS today was an ASU record. So, CCU might have lost the game - but we obviously went down with a hell of a fight.

"Coulda, woulda, shoulda" - CCU should have played both halves like we played the second half, but we didn't. Our program has come a very, very long way for just being in its fourth year of existence, and I'm proud of that.

As for someone asking earlier in the thread where all the CCU posters were - I believe most (95%) of us were at the game. A very, VERY strong showing from our fans. I was front row, 30 yard line screaming my head off most of the game...I wouldn't have missed this game for anything.

ASU-

ASU is the real deal...there's no way the Mountaineers won't be repeat National Champs this year...I would be extremely surprised if you're not.

Didn't have any problems with any ASU fans other than some drunk kid after the game.

Overall, just a very good football team - one of the best I've seen play live.

I had a great time today. Congrats to ASU - this year's national champs. Good luck against the Bobcats, although I really don't think you'll need it. :rotateh:

ASU's defense probably relaxed a bit after the 31-0 halftime score but that only lasts for a series or so. Thigpen did an excellent job connecting with your talented group of receivers in the second half. Overall, our secondary coverage wasn't all that bad either - you just made plays. CCU will still need to improve its D and team speed to play regularly with the top teams in CS. Congrats Coastal on a fine season and for your efforts in the second half.

is Thigpen a senior? I was VERY impressed with his decision making throughout that game.....there were quite a few times where Marques Murrell would be breathing down his neck and he'd still complete the pass. Good Game CCU, it was pretty exciting

Unfortunately for us, yes Thigpen is a senior.

Congrats on the win. I enjoyed my experience at "The Rock." No problems with ASu fans. All the ones I encounted were nice. Hopefully, Coastal will build upon this experience.

Just got back to Chicago from Boone.

Good game, good atmosphere. Once you set foot off the campus there is nothing to do. We were scared the first half, it showed. We played like we normally do in the second half.

Dave, aka Mr. C:
Yeah, right. scoring a bunch of points on ASU's defense.

Thigpen: 24/41 for 351 3 td's 1 int
9 rushes for 23 yards and another td

Simpson: 7 receptions for 132 yards and 2 TD's.

28 points - that's the most points that anyone scored on you guys all season.

Offense wasnt' our problem.

Good Game guys, though I'm not a fan of your coach, the fans were civil. Where were the student tailgates? That little valley was empty this time around (aka no free drinks :bawling: ). Hope to see you guys in Hooters Stadium soon. Good Luck!

Offense wasnt' our problem.

Sure it was, just not as much in the second half. If we could have moved the chains and scored some points in the first half we would have done our defense a favor and kept them and the ASU offense off of the field. So both sides of the ball were a problem. I'm just frustrated knowing that we could have played better but didn't.

If we need to generate more then 450 yards of offense to have a chance to win then I think that speaks about our defense...not our offense.

Has a certain aura about him.

And thanks for the kind words.

I wish yards went up on the scoreboard, but they don't. You can have all of the yards you want, but if you aren't putting it into the endzone it doesn't matter, just like the Elon game. The first half we went scoreless and went 3 and out our first two drives. If we could have held onto the football and put it into the endzone then we would have helped the defense tremendously and kept a very potent offense off of the field.

Rok Im just saying if it is our offenses problem, then you would assume they need to be more productive correct?

We scored the most points on appy this year. We had over 450 yards of offense. It wasn't enough...that points to our defense....the defense that gave up over 500 yards and 40 points.

That's my point. We needed more points (production) in the first half. That way it would have kept the ball away from the ASU offense and made it easier to come back. Neither side did what they needed to do in the first two quarters. In the second half our defense only let them score 14, so that isn't too bad.

I'm not blaming one side or the other - just pointing out that it is a team and the offense could have helped the defense out by controling the ball and scoring.

Right and if we only allowed 14 points in the first half....but if a frog had wings it wouldn't land on its ass when it jumped. Sorry I just like that saying.
