Hey, that is a sweet pic. Makes you realize "what could be" at GSU. For the love of God put some seating in the enzone for a horsehoe shape, your school deserves it!

No horseshoe! Maybe another section or two of seats on both sides of the stands but leave some hill! xnodx

There is a big debate on TSC about which way to expand Paulson Stadium. A popular option (pardon the pun) is to expand outward and fill the endzone, but there are some who would hate to take away the hills the kids slide down. The other is to go up but it might make the stadium look strange, like, unbalanced until there was sufficient demand for upper decking both sides. Either way, expansion means attendance is increasing so I am all for it. xthumbsupx

What if you extended the sideline seating down to the corners, and you would still have the hill in the endzone?

GaSouthern
December 14th, 2007, 11:01 PM
A little, but not much, alot of people want to bowl the endzone building end of the field and leave the scoreboard end open.

Cheaper than double decking and makes for a great view from the road / adds possible tunnels to run out through.

The latest news on UAlbany Stadium is that it was included in the 2008 SUNY budget request. That was the first hurdle we had to make. The budget now sits with the governor. It's going to be a brutal budget year for NY but we're hopeful. Our AD said that the hope is that ground would be broken in the fall. We'll know if the stadium made the final budget when the budget is passed in the late 1st quarter. We have some politicians that have given the stadium at least some superficial support. The NYS Legislature Majority Leader said that he thought we'd get a stadium but the through in a caveat of not being sure if it would be this year. Still... things have progressed and aren't looking too bad.

ASU has had snowstorm games at home but most of those were way back... I know there were a few in the 80's... That was a dream of mine to happen while i was here but being that I am graduating before next season it wont happen while I am a student:(

Walked around Coastal's Brooks Stadium yesterday and saw that the engineers have set up a water wall and path at the site of the future field house. It looks like they are ready to set up the foundation. I'm guessing that they are ready to actually build this thing. I also saw the "Barn," the athletic weight . . . "building," which is HUGE and very nice. I would think they would keep the Barn and use the space in the field house, that would be used for the weight room, for something else.

If its moved why not just move to to Atlanta in the Georgia Dome? Better airport for people coming in from out of the region, larger stadium with plenty of seats - also a great venue for those who have never been there. Outside attractions for the entire weekend, plenty of hotel rooms, etc.

Too big a stadium for the championship. Calling the Georgia Dome a great venue is a real stretch. Football is played outdoors.

There's a stadium I've been trying like crazy to find a really good big picture of. It's Eastern Illinois' O'Brien Stadium. All the pics I've found on Google Images and Flickr were only partial shots of the grandstand or the field. The only large grandstand shot I found was grainy. I'm wondering if anyone has a good high-res pic of the stadium from one end looking at both sides' grandstands, for example. If anyone has that, please post it here, and I'll give rep to you!!xcoolx

Seems like you all are going to be like Sanford Stadium eventually. You already have the first tier of the bowl along the sidelines (Like Sanford pre-1967). Then, you add the upper decks along the sidelines (1967 expansion), then one endzone gets added (1981 expansion).

Unlike Sanford Stadium, you don't have the road bridge in one endzone, so by 2050, Paulson could actually be bigger than Sanford to be the biggest stadium in Georgia.

I think it would take 100 more years for us to get to the size of Sanford. Most of us don't want the biggest stadium just to have the biggest stadium. Enough seats for the fans would be a nice addition, though.xrolleyesx

As far as football is concerned, Southern Utah was only had around 40 scholarships until two years ago when they went to 57. They have a new coach and those additional scholarships should start paying off in the next year or so.

Yep, there was a nice thunderstorm about an hour before game time. I don't think they are used to that much rain because the streets didn't drain worth a crap and the people were remarking about how hard it rained. As you know thunderstorms like that are a normal almost daily occurence down here in the summertime. I think we had an advantage because our guys were more used to playing on muddy fields (practice fields mainly) than their guys.

Bailey Memorial Stadium. Capacity at 6,500 and designed to expand easily if necessary. It's small, for sure, but it would've been pointless for a school as small as PC to build anything bigger. I like the more intimate atmosphere, especially because I knew a lot of the players as an undergrad. I love home games at Bailey because I get to see familiar faces everywhere, both in the stands and on the field. I much prefer Bailey's atmosphere to Doak Campbell's because here at FSU I feel like just a drop in the ocean instead of a member of a community.

McNeese's new turf (and a hopeful NFL draft pick for this weekend seated in front of three of the guys McNeese hopes will replace his production...). The picture shows how vivid and sharp the colors on the new turf are. It really is outstanding...and I'm hardly one to gush over what the home team does just for the sake of gushing... Edit to add: Actually, after I reduced the file size using photo bucket, it seems to have lightened the colors a bit. This photo is a little less "vivid" than real life....I'll work on that (Doc, what do I do?)

That's a rather arrogant thing to say when you know nothing about the fanbase. MSU was in the top 10 for FCS attendance last year. Averaged more than 13k.

Actually it was 14,245 at 109.58% of capacity.

Doesn't compare too badly with App. St. before the last couple of years. In fact it beats out the 2004 (and maybe 2005) attendance. You're gonna get comments like that though from a bunch of new App fans with no sense of what is going on around the country I guess.

The point is where do we draw the line and say you have to meet minimum standards in order to get the priviledge of calling yourself a DI football team?

I'm for minimum scholarships and minimum stadium standards.

I believe that's called FBS football.

But that article doesn't even mention the stadium. xconfusedx

The team in WSSU's stadium produces top quality action and talent... what good is your stadium if a bunch of bums are playing on the field? That's the purpose of me posting the article about WSSU's 2008 draft pick. The stadium serves it's purpose, you have a seat to see some great football.

And it should be FCS too.

Well, there is a faction out there that would like to see a third football subdivision for the non-scholarship programs, but I think that would eventually kill off the FCS level. If a third subdivision existed, I don't think you'd see the NEC increasing its scholarship allotments. Where would the FCS get the programs to replace the ones that leave? Who is going to opt for all of the expense of scholarship football without any of the FBS revenue, when you can just as easily win a (mostly ignored) championship playing non-scholly football? The tiny programs are needed to keep FCS viable.

I understand what your saying but at least Northern Colorado has a well maintained little place. SUU's is small and not so nice --two big strikes.

Thanks. I think the bigger issue with SUU is travel. It's fairly cheap for Big Sky teams to travel to Greeley because there is a major airport just an hour away. I like UNC's stadium because it's not too big (if they had a 20,000 seater, it would be 1/3 empty) and it's better than the dump they used to play at called Jackson Field.

Difficult to follow what you were comparing, but ASU 3 years ago, in 2005 had an average of 17,917 for the season including the play-off games compared to 13,710 for MSU. Over 23,000 per regular season game.

Seats for about 23k with grass berm on scoreboard side should be near 25k or more. They are only adding about 5k seats. Most of the money went behind the new stands to make significant upgrade to overall facilities. Last I heard cost was about $40 to $45 Million. I have to say, they did it right. That is, rather than build 40k seats and never fill it. They went for quality rather than too many aluminum seats that would never be full. The suites are going to be very nice and have sold out. The revenue from the suites alone is about $700k. Nameing rights brought in $5million. Time will tell how this all works out.

I took these pictures in my vacation to the Carolinas a few weeks ago. These are pictures of Elon's Rhodes Stadium, at least what it looks like in the summer.

The bell tower is located behind the entrance plaza. I think Elon's stadium is quite nice. It's designed for future expansion, really classy. There used to be some steal bleachers on the other side but they got removed some time in the 90's. There is a good sized mound there now though that students sit on a lot. They bring blankets and sit behind the visitor bench. There are some rumbles of a new stadium on campus though.

Our stadium is about 3 miles off campus. This has created maybe the best homecoming tradition in America though, "THE WALK." Each year students and alumni set off at about 6 or 7 in the morning and walk to the stadium stopping at every bar along the way to have a few drinks. There's usually 15 to 20 bars for the thousands of people to stop at. Then when you finally do reach the stadium there are a ton of tents with more spirits for the taking. It's a rough and good time. Homecoming in the Haute is a special event!
