No disrespect to any of the players on the list, but any list without P.J. Hall as a first team D-lineman is not legitimate.

I agree. We played against two of the guys listed on the 1st team and P.J. Hall is better than both IMO. Not saying those two aren't deserving but if they're 1st team, Hall should be as well.

It's a numbers game in terms of only so many from the same position can make a 1st team. Hall is a DE and it looks like they put 2 DEs. If you are ranking the DEs I think you have to have Cowser and Ochi. Both have been productive players for more than one year and they are also fast players who didn't have the playoffs to increase their totals like Hall did.

I could also make the same argument for Jonathan Woodard over Hall. Woodard was earning the exact same type of awards as Hall back when he was a freshman. I think after those 3 I would certainly have Hall in there. Next year, if Hall continues what he is doing, he will certainly be 1st team.

With that said, I think Hall is a better player than any DT but it's good to have 1-2 DTs on the 1st team.

The big snub at DE is LaMichael Fanning. I don't know how hard he works but if his work ethic matched his talent this offseason he will be a 1st or 2nd teamer. That kid should be a mid round draft pick. He just didn't have the production but is a freak athlete with size who really played well against FBS powerhouse Michigan State. Keep an eye on Fanning.

Woodard is a player who I can see arguing for dropping the most. He was very inconsistent. If you are looking at his top games then he would be unanimous first-team but if you look at some of his worst games you wouldn't even list him as a top 10 defensive end. Hall was a beast in the playoffs.

IMO, Hall is one of the two best "football players" we faced last year (SEMO's Paul McRoberts being the other). Cowser and Woodard are nice players but Hall was more disruptive against us and showed more ability to change the game in different ways. I get the politics of why he's not listed 1st team but IMO he should be.

The Patriot League is now 3 years deep, Fordham 5, in scholarship classes yet the league can only muster 3 guys on TSN All-American list? Something just isn't adding up...xeyebrowx

Cowser had some really impressive games but yours was not one of his best for sure. Hall's time will come.

McRoberts is not bad. I don't have him as an All-American simply because most of his production came in two or three games but if he could do what he did against Kansas every week, he would be a first-team pick easy.

McRoberts broke his foot against us, came back in the game and still made the game winning catch in the final seconds. I believe he missed most of the rest of the season. That said, he's as good a WR as we've played against IMO ... the biggest issue with his production has more to do with lack of QB production than him personally. He's the real deal.

Who would you argue should be on a list? From the Patriot League there is Mayweather and Edmonds of Fordham and Smalley of Lafayette but that's about it at this point.

Below are the returning 1st-teamers from last year. Not much top end talent is back.

RB: Chase Edmonds, Fordham (Fr.)
WR: Will Carter, Bucknell (So.)
OL: Julie'n Davenport, Bucknell (So.); Garrick Mayweather, Fordham (Jr.)
PK: Jonah Bowman, Colgate (So.)

DEFENSE
DB: Jared Roberts, Lafayette (Jr.); Matt Smalley, Lafayette (Jr.)
P: Austin Devine, Lehigh (Jr.)

Yes he is the real deal. Coming off an injury is always a good reason to bump a player down, simply because you don't know for sure how they well they will bounce back from rehab.

My point was more towards the fact that the PL still seems to wallowing around. I've yet to see any improvement, let alone a drastic one. Perhaps coaching/development has something to do with it.

So like when the waves are up the boat goes up and when the waves are down the boat goes down? Freakin' insightful of you. Let's look at some facts. NOT saying other guys aren't deserving. I just want to see what you are looking at with Woodard.

Sigh. Let's look at Woodard's career. Then you can look at his inconsistent play.

2014- Buch Buchanan Watch List
2014- Southland Conference Defensive Player of year
2014- Associated Press FCS All-American third team
2014- Southland All-Academic team
2014- TSN All-American
2014- multiple honarable mention player of week for defense
2014- Preseason all-conference team
2014 - Preseason all-American team
2013- All conference team
2013- Preseason all-conference team
2013- Preseason all-American
2012- Southland Freshman of the year.
2012- Multiple h.m. player of week
2012- All conference team
.... and others I can't remember.

But the guy got better year after year. He has done this with a new coach and in a system that allowed him to be double teamed because of that defensive scheme. That's 3 guys on the defensive front and he was one of them! Yet he played even better! How's that for inconsistent?

2014- 56 tackles (in a 3-4 defense) with 18.5 TFL, 10 sacks, 1 INT, 2 blocked kicks
2013- 49 tackles (with a coach that didn't want to be there), 10.5 TFL, 7 sacks
2012- 36 tackles, 11 TFL, 7 sacks

Now let's look at his NFL frame. He's 6'6" and 271 lbs.

Let's make a prediction for this season for him. Minus injuries or other not letting him play. I know our coach is changing up the defense drastically so he won't be team up like he was last year. His stats will be even better. His toughest games are at home. He gets OK. State to show his talent.

I'll take that kind of inconsistency anytime. xbowx

The reason I put Woodard ahead of Hall is the fact that Woodard has done all that you just listed.

I'm talking about from game to game when I say inconsistent. Meaning I have seen a game with 3-4 sacks and then no sacks in a game. He can be the best in the country for a game and then blend in during another game. I'm very high on Woodard. I have him as a top level DE and don't believe you can have an All-America list without him. As for season to season he has been the best of all the DEs in FCS.

I know there are teams who saw him play who felt he was the best defender they saw and others who said he was 3rd-5th best because he was just good and not great like in other games.

As for his frame he is not quite that big but close. He was 6'4 7/8 (6'5) and 266 pounds at the junior pro day. Didn't know if you had heard that or not but still 6'5 266 is very good size. That's part of what makes him so stuff to stop in FCS and why he will get a shot in the NFL.

So... Carson Wentz?

So many good QBs this year. I would put Wentz 4th right now but as for natural talent and upside for the NFL he is better than anyone on the list for sure. You have to take stats into consideration and the type of offense when picking a QB and those above him are all likely to put up better numbers. It's kind of like with Flacco. He was not the most dominant passer in terms of stats but his physical tools blew everyone else out of the water. That's what people will say about Wentz, except Wentz is walking away with titles while Flacco did not.

Impressive that Duncan Fletcher went from walk-on fourth string QB to all-american caliber TE in one season.

Also good to see Cory Magwood on the list. Good news for Furman fans is he is probably not even the best Paladin linebacker on this team.

You would have to ask Haley. I can see both sides. Wentz didn't have the individual stats of the others but he is a more talented player. I am projecting Wentz to be 4th in awards voting but I think he is the best NFL prospect of the group.

That among many other things are why you don't put Wentz on a 1st or 2nd team All-America list but trust me if you are building a team of FCS players Wentz is the first QB picked and it's not even close. Wentz is the most talented QB in FCS. Put him at EWU as a freshman and give him 4 years and he would break every passing record in FCS history. He's that talented.
