Hansel,
What's the talk about NDSU or SDSU joining the Gateway conference next year? Have you heard anything about that?

While listening to the SIU game, they were talking about you guys being contenders. We're Western Kentuky to I-A which opens up a spot.

You I don't know. We gotta replace Western Kentuky. I'm sure they want to replace them with the best. You guys have great ball teams. Sure travel is an issue... but mostly for you guys. We only have to go there every other year. Why would Gateway teams be against that? If you guys are for it... why not!

Honestly, I'm all for it. I was scepticle before I learned how good your teams were. NDSU has a chance for the Championship this year. And for SDSU to play this well against this team... speaks volumes for there program as well.

Well at least for us Salukis... that's one of the best teams in the nation that we don't have to face. Man I was sweating having to face you guys in the playoffs. That's the main reason why I tuned in to listen to your game.

Jacks fall to NDSU Bison in title game, 28-41

Jeremy Fugleberg

A last minute interception by North Dakota State University sealed the fate of the Jackrabbits, who fell to the Bison 28-41. The border battle victory gave the Bison the Great West Football Conference title and the Dakota Marker.

A record Fargodome crowd of 19,053 watched the Bison (10-1) and Jackrabbits (7-4) slug it out for 69 combined points and 824 yards of total offense, trading touchdowns through the air and on the ground.

It was a big-play game by the two big-play heavyweights of the conference. The Jackrabbits, ranked 18th in the nation in Division 1AA, surprised the Bison with several big scores and a powerful running game. . . . (read more)

Late punt return dooms SDSU hopes against NDSU

FARGO - There was no coming back from this return.

No. 4-ranked North Dakota State beat No. 19 South Dakota State 41-28 on Saturday night before a Fargodome record crowd of 19,053, the key play an 84-yard punt return by senior Travis White with 6 minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Just one minute earlier, the Jackrabbits, a team that had won seven games in a row, including three in heart-stopping fashion, were on the verge of deja vu. They took possession with 8:50 left down only three points and feeling "unstoppable" as senior receiver Micah Johnson put it.

But ultimately they were denied - again. . . . (read more)

That's a portion of the "Dakota Marker". There's a black granite base the pink granite attaches to. The pink granite piece the Bison's #74 Adam Tadisch is holding in the picture is a miniature of the boundary markers that separated North Dakota and South Dakota. I think they were originally spaced about every mile or 10 miles on the border when the two states were admitted to the Union in 1889. The originals, or at least many of them, are still out on the prairie.

The first Dakota marker game was held at SDSU's Coughlin Alumni Stadium in 2004 and the Jackrabbits came from behind and scored twice in something like two minutes to win the game and take the Marker. Last year. the game was in the Fargodome and the Bison beat the tar out of the 'Rabbits. This year, the Jacks had to return to Fargo (just a matter of scheduling) and it was a real battle in front of 19,000 + fans.

Next year, back to Brookings and we're looking forward to it. The Bison are a great team but you'll have to say the Jackrabbits are rapidly improving. Early prediction: 20,000 fans at Coughlin; SDSU 24, NDSU 10.

Jacks really impressed:

1) Physical strength and speed. Steffes got run down on what would have been a TD against anyone else.

2) Execution.

3) Passing game.

Jacks controlled the stats. NDSU got the big play one too many times. It was the best game of the season in Fargo!!
