You've always heard us refer to the FAMU teams of the late 90s, but many of you have never had a chance to see these teams actually play. Well, one of the great FAMU wide receivers from that era, posted these videos on his YouTube page. Here's a look at the last MEAC Team to go to the playoffs an win a game...way back in 1998 and 1999. These were some of the funnest years to be a Rattler fan

That is a long drought. I hope NDSU never faces a drought like that at this level.

Yeah it is...but that 1999 team was special...I truly believe we would've won the National Title had we not choked at the end of the Youngstown State semifinal game. That 1999 team had to beaten Appalachian State and Troy on the road.

1998 was a damn good team as well...went 11-2(including 11 wins in a row)...had the number 1 ranked offense in I-AA/FCS...and won FAMU's first playoff game since winning the Title in 1978

I was at that game in 1999. If FAMU wouldn't have gotten cute and passed the ball down the middle with a huge lead late in the game they would have won and probably deserved to win anyway.

Man, a MEAC team pushing around App State. I still don't think getting back to this is impossible, coaching and scheme can do it.

FAMU fans still haven't gotten over that...we put the backup QB in the game and let him continue throwing the ball when we actually running the ball pretty well. Billy Joe did the same thing in the Florida Classic a few seasons later...had a big lead in the 4th quarter and continued to throw the ball which allowed BCU to pull off a comeback victory.

He had a killer instinct in that he wanted to put teams out of their misery...he would pile on points. Honestly, I miss that.

1997-2000 was a rough 4 years for us dealing with FAMU, but those games were so hype
FAMU and Southern should have never stopped playing...these two teams can certainly make there argument for having the best fanbase in FCS

Agreed...the games between FAMU and SU were intense. The fans hated each other, we had two great football programs, and our bands were top notch. Our administrations screwed that series up.

I'd have loved to see FAMU's defense try to slow down GSU's offense that averaged 50 points and 550 yards a game. I'd also like to have seen FAMU's offense against GSU's secondary that had two NFL corners, an NFL safety, and another safety who is still playing in the AFL.

THANKS BIG DAWG FOR POSTING THESE VIDEOS, KEEP THEM COMING! xthumbsupx

I was hoping all footage of that game were burnt lol No margin of victory will ever erase the feeling from that game, although 2001 did help a lot.

also wanted to point out that coming into that game Southern had only allowed 73 points. Man that Rattler Offense was SCARY.
