Game starting now...

bobbythekidd
November 11th, 2006, 02:34 PM
did i hear Jayson at QB?

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 02:37 PM
A lot more empty seats in the visiting section this year than in '04...

No, Travis Clark is at QB.

First play of the game, GSU stuffed behind LOS. First series: 3 and out...

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 02:39 PM
Foster just took the snap at QB. I guess the plan is to mix things up to confuse Furman's defense.

November 11th, 2006, 02:42 PM
How's the crowd in general?

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 02:53 PM
Furman now with three first downs so far on their first possession. They are on the GSU 46 now...

One of the announcers said "this is what Furman needs to do keep eating up the clock and keep GSU's offense off the field". I guess he doesn't realize this is a completely different ball game than last year.

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:01 PM
4 and a long 1... Furman doesn't give to Felton. Brilliant.

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:01 PM
Furman turns the ball over on 4th and 2...on GSU's first play, Foster fumbles...Furman ball 1st and goal

[EDIT] never mind, refs are saying it wasn't a fumble...replay says it was a fumble....
LoL the refs called unsportsmanlike conduct against Bobby Lamb...the only other time I've seen a penalty on the coaching staff was on Bobby Lamb Last year...

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:02 PM
Now apparently they are going to cheat and give the ball back to GSU.

bobbythekidd
November 11th, 2006, 03:02 PM
bad call. there

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:04 PM
GSU fumbled again but actually did recover it this time.

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:06 PM
Now apparently they are going to cheat and give the ball back to GSU.

Payback for that touchdown that we got robbed of last year :D

Foster comes in at QB, and goes nowhere. Sheesh, don't throw three times with Foster, do some option plays or something...

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 03:07 PM
Announcers said that "Looks like Furman has been expecting Foster to be at quarterback all week"

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:08 PM
1st quarter over, and it's scoreless...

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 03:08 PM
I tell you, when Furman's offense is healthy and defenses have to "pick their poison" the Paladins are extremely dangerous. Sounds like the Eagles are loading up against Felton and leaving our crossing routes wide open.

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:12 PM
Furman big play with the tunnel screen... you would think GSU's defense would be ready for that play, hearing all the Eagles complain about Hinshaw.

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:13 PM
Furman moving the ball well and eating up a lot of clock...now on the GSU 28

...another good run by the QB....Furman now on GSU 20

TD Furman...PAT is good...Furman 7 GSU 0
we are so going to get smoked today...if the defense plays good I think it'll be 14-3 at the end of the game.

12:48 left in the second

....

TD GSU...Foster on the option keeper makes a long run.... 12:15 left in the 2nd, it's tied at 7

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 03:16 PM
Pile it on Paladins.

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:34 PM
Furman goes for it on 4th and 1...fails again...GSU ball

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:35 PM
GSU recovered though I'm not sure it mattered, since presumably Felton was short on the 4th down attempt.

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 03:37 PM
Both sides having trouble catching the ball for some reason.

FCS_pwns_FBS
November 11th, 2006, 03:41 PM
Fumble by GSU wideout ran back to the GSU 30, but it's called back. A questionable call, but not blatantly incorrect like the last one.

Still tied at 7, 3:57 left in the 1st half

...

Field Goal

GSU: 10

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 03:55 PM
Sounds like FU needs to keep doing what they are doing. The breaks will come. Keep after them on defense. I don't think they can sustain a drive down the field but they can certainly break the big play.

bobbythekidd
November 11th, 2006, 03:56 PM
I will say this officiating crew is bad, but more of the calls are going GSUs way this year. It is a refreshing change. I hope the zebras don't make any halftime adjustments as well.

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 03:57 PM
the question is, does Furman play the second half like they have the last few games?

If so, then Furman is screwed.

bobbythekidd
November 11th, 2006, 03:59 PM
Alot of folks are dreading the second half.

If Furman loses are they out of the playoffs?

Yes as they will not have 7 DI wins.

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 04:03 PM
It's as good as it gets....win, in the playoffs, lose, stay home.

The irony is, our offweek is next week. Win and that will be a blessing, lose and it throws salt in the wound.

downbythebeach
November 11th, 2006, 04:06 PM

youwouldno

ALL Furman fan's start the J-Train chant.

youwouldno

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 04:31 PM

GSU was moving the ball very well.

First play after getting the ball back, Furman runs it to the GSU 30 or so...

Looks like it's going to be Furman 10 GSU 0 in the second half...we are the second half shennanigans champion of the Socon...

[EDIT] nevermind, the just got a field goal instead

It sounds like GSU is only running Foster right, Foster left. Nothing fancy, just letting him run.

Strange?

youwouldno
November 11th, 2006, 04:40 PM
You know, Foster has been GSU's only offense, so it makes sense. BUT, does not BVG look kinda like an idiot? How many games should it take for him to realize the option should remain part of the GSU offense, given their personnel?

And plus it has to be hard on Clark to only play every few plays.

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 04:42 PM
I don't think Clark could hit the broadside of a red barn.

It sounds like GSU is only running Foster right, Foster left. Nothing fancy, just letting him run.

Strange?

I promise you it's better than doing what we have been doing all year...

But you are right. Foster needs to learn to look for receivers when he rolls out. The safeties and the linebackers in his face the minute he crosses the LOS. There has to be people open when they swarm to him like that.

PaladinFan
November 11th, 2006, 04:44 PM

We are totally copying App State now

Running shotgun formation, sending the RB one way, the QB another, and making the defense wonder who has the ball by handing off or faking a handoff. It's given us good yardage so far though.

There goes an option play that looks like App States option play

Lots of great hitting in this game. I thought Furman corralled Foster pretty good in the option game. He had the 83 yard run, but their only other scoring drive was a 15 yard drive (that had a bad call on a fumble by GSU).

Oh my God, I've been a fan of BVG till tonight but the coaching staff cost us the game tonight. Our kids pure talent kept us in it but it was a heart breaker...

Great game Furman, good luck in the playoffs...see you all next year...

I just got home from the game. OMFG....GSU played their hearts out tonight....I hate to see a bunch of kids with so much talent get used up so badly by a coaching staff. That has to be one of the greatest displays of heart by a player I have ever seen. My heart goes out to #4, because he is one of the best option QB's I have ever seen. I think that kid sweats Wesson oil.....wow. It is a damn shame that he is wasted on a coach like BVG. And, don't get me wrong, I think when BVG gets his offense rolling, it is going to be unfortunate for the rest of us, but a talent like Foster's is a terrible thing to waste. I'd give my left nut to have half the talent that kid has...damn shame to see it wasted. :bawling: **** he can move.

Thank you for the kind words for OUR QB.

I nominate this BVG is a J@CK^SS post of the year.

Hats off to Fuman. Blocker on D and Gray on O were impressive. I had no clue they were the playmakers they are.
The Eagle Nation hopes Gray is OK.
Enjoy the week off. Good Luck.
We are going to pound you in the dirt next year! (don't you love a rivalry?)

I agree...just glad to come out of that game 8-3. Foster is scary fast.

Couple of comments from me on the game tonight.

So all the GSU fans lamenting about their kicking game all season weren't exaggerating. Wow!

I'll echo the comments on Foster. If he plays the whole game, GSU wins easily. The only reason I see bringing Clark in on passing plays is that he can see over the O-line without a step-ladder. But why pass when you can run Foster for 6-7 every play?

GSU can place some blame on #6 (sorry I don't know the name). I saw him drop at least 4 passes today that hit him square in the hands. I think all of them were crucial plays.

I don't know about the rest of you Paladin fans, but I'm sick of seeing/hearing Grey get hurt. He did nothing special for us being in that game today. I hope Sorrells starts our playoff game so at least we can have a healthy, prepared QB for it.

Not to take anything away from GSU's D, but there's no way Felton was 100% tonight. If he ran the ball one play, he immediately came out afterwards. I think he only had one carry for 5+ yards.

Great game for Foster. Great game for LaFrance and Gibson. Horrible game for the refs. GSU's band was superb. GSU fans were great as well (although I think when Ingle left, so did some of your fire. It was somewhat subdued over there this year.)

Kudos to GSU on a hard fought game. It never seems to be a game that you can take for granted on either side. Foster is one slippery dude. I was impressed by the clean hard hitting play today.

I'm curious to hear what the GSU fans think of our freshmen #4 RJ Webb and #21 Stephan LaFrance. I have always been impressed with GSUs athletic ability and Webb and LaFrance caused alot of problems tonight. I'm glad we have those two for the next 3 years.

It just hasn't been the same this year without GUS at the top, but tonight showed it doesn't matter what the records are both teams get after each other.

I disagree with this. Gray will have two weeks to get healthy with the much-needed off week. You're right that he did nothing special tonight, but keep in mind this is the same guy who led us to back-to-back 42-point efforts. I'm not sure if Sorrells is ready for the pressure of a playoff game (not that I wouldn't trust him). I would start Gray assuming he gets back to at least 90% or so. Now if he is still injured pretty badly, that's another story. I'm more concerned with Felton being 100%. We need him to be the threat that he usually is. He still looked off today.

My hat is off to GSU Eagles, they played a great game. I joked on the Furman fan board that Van Gorder is a coaching genius for keeping Foster for the Furman game. The scary part is that he is a junior and could come back next year, perhaps with more respect from his coach. And the Paladins finally broke the second half jinx on scoring. And we know that GSU will be back next year in the hunt for the conference championship and playoffs.

Tough loss. I'm a homer, but I don't think it's out of order to say we have the best two players on their respective sides of the ball in Jayson Foster and John Mohring. Too bad our coach is a joke and takes it in the A.
