View Full Version : The SLC race: what's left?

BEAR
November 8th, 2014, 10:16 PM
Her are the standings:

SELA 5-1
Sam 5-1
UCA 5-2
Mcneese 4-2
SFA 4-2

games left:

SELA has Mcneese and Nichols
Sam has HBU and UCA
UCA has only Sam
SFA has ACU and NWST
McNeese has SELA and Lamar

Bear fans will be Cowboy fans next week and hope for a win AT Sam. Not likely though. That loss with 7 turnovers at ACU ruined the conference season and most likely any playoff spot. If they beat Sam then 7 dI wins will be reached but will it be enough? Kinda doubting it.

SELA should hold serve next week and take the title.

Sam most likely will too.

If if it goes that way then two games will separate 1st(s) from third places.

but if the top two teams lose their could be a 5 way tie for the conference title!

How does a SELA - SHSU tiebreak work?

If SHSU and SLU both win out, the autobid would come down to whoever wins the season finale between SFA and NW State. That is assuming they're not in a three or four-way tie.

It depends on the final standings of SFA and NWST, which will most likely come down to the final game in which they play. Axe'em Jacks!!!

I don't think McNeese will win a game the rest of the season. We have too many people out with injuries or trying to play with injuries. I'm not even going to try to list them all.

Ummmm, no things are not the same between the two, we REALLY have injuries at all the critical skill areas as well as the OL, etc. We could not have put 70+ points on anyone last night. With Sams probably out for the year I expect to see the Lions stack the line and blitz every down. After seeing Zack Conque (Soph) last night, he is going to be a real force in the SLC with his size and talent.

I agree with Doc, I do not see us winning either of the final two games.

Bennett probably out, Roberson probably out, two and possibly three OL out ... not to mention several others playing dinged up.

Oh, only one running back out??? How about having your top three out. Keep Bennett out next week and lets make it a defensive struggle :D Maybe we can grab a safety or a 60 yd field goal to steal the win.

Either way this is going to be a huge game for both sides. I've seen a very good Mcneese, and also a very bad Mcneese this year. I used to have a lot of confidence in Barnett (our back up QB), but after the SFA game, I'm not so sure my confidence is there. Since SLU had our bye last week, we should come out guns blazing, but I'm not 100% sure with Bennett on the fence. No SLC team has been flawless so this race could come down to an insane ending!

McNeese72
November 9th, 2014, 06:27 PM
We have no offense at all. We lost what were our top three WR coming into this season for the year. We are missing our top three runningbacks and the other two are slowed by injuries. We have a several OL that are day to day every game and playing with injuries. And, now we lost Daniel Sams to a hand injury for the rest of the season. And we don't have the depth that you guys, evidently have (and have bragged about during the season).

Throw in some stupid mistakes (penalties, etc) depleted offensive skill players (not making excuses) and a it puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

You probably should be more concerned about your final games. Both of those teams have the capability of beating the Jacks (Ask UCA and SHSU).

Seeing as how our team is Jackyll and Hyde (see what I did there) I'm concerned about both those games

Question.

If a ball is punted or kicked and the punt/kick return guy catches it at the 1 yard line but falls backwards into the end zone and is down there, where do you spot the ball? Its not a touchback because he started outside the endzone and had possession of it on the 1 yard line. Is it a safety because he started on the one and retreated himself into the endzone? Or does his team start at the 1 because of forward progress.

Yes, this crap happens at Estes Stadium. xnodx

No that play wasn a deciding factor, just an interesting and weird rare happening.

If momentum carried him into endzone, it would be spotted at one ... If he backed into endzone on his own, it would be a safety and spotted at the 20 yard line. If for some reason it was determined possession was gained until after falling into endzone, it would be a touchback.

A different strength and conditioning coach would have made zero difference in most (if not all) of the key injuries this year. The team was well conditioned going into September.

Ya'll had 288 yards of total offense. I will take that all day long. 2 3rd down penalties in the redzone killed us. Plus the 2 turnovers. The fact that the offense couldn't move the ball really effected defense. Special teams were bad too.

This bye week for UCA is needed also. Our starting QB is out with an ankle issue. Our backup, who was the starter last year, had a horrible game against ACU but a decent game vs. Lamar. You just never know with him. Credit to ACU defense though. It was their night. I'll be glad to have two options at QB against Sam in two weeks.

I just looked at the future 2015 and 2016 football schedules on the Houston Baptist website and see that McNeese is not on them. What the hell is up with that? They are so close it only seems natural that we would be playing them. Everybody else gets to play them while they suck and we don't?

I'm still not happy with them because they ended up causing our opening weekend open date this season. We were trying to sign a contract with them to play and finally they backed out of it and said that they weren't ready to play us. By that time it was impossible for us to line up another game. We couldn't even get a D-II game because the D-II teams weren't allowed to schedule a game that early and we ended up with only 11 games this season.

Bunch of fricking cowards, imo.

Not sure of the formula or method used to determine who doesn't play who, but everybody in the league has one team they don't play for three seasons, and another that rotates on and off. You guys also don't play UCA this season. Eventually, the conference will go to a nine game schedule, assuming the league stays intact.

A. You suck. So do we but comparatively to McNeese standards, you suck. The gold standard of the SLC is looking a little bronzish as of late. Again, we suck too but at least McNeese has history on its side.

B. They werent ready to play ANYBODY! Their AD and three fans must have something against you guys. The games theyve showed up for they certainly didnt play.

Then they should not be in the conference and their games should count as a D-II game for opponents.

I don't know about the rivalry or what our administration prefers but I rather they be one of those teams on our schedule every year. The McNeese fans would much prefer a road trip to Houston then having to make that long trip to Conway or Abilene which we will have to do to both next season in a span of three weeks.

I guess we will have to wait until HBU gets better to have them on our schedule.
