I know alot of players stay near their campus during the summer and workout/practice together. Does anyone have knowledge on what percentage of a team's players typically do this? What would be considered a good participation rate?

Our guys are too busy running ferris wheels and serving cotton candy to work out during the summer. Just let your players know they'll have an easy game to open the season.

W&M has 60% of its spring roster in town for the summer. Over 50 players. I think that's high compared to past years. The upperclassmen and regulars almost always stay. This summer we have alot of the redshirt freshmen here. There are always a handful of true freshmen that get a head start by attending summer session.

Furman has about 45 out of 60 up there this summer with about 4 or 5 true freshmen around too.

Lehigh usually has about 25-35 players stick around for the summer. The difficulty is that most have to get decent paying summer jobs to pay for living expenses and a good chunk of next year's tuition. A partial grant of $15,000/year still leaves a bill due of $20,000. So pressure is tight on making the off-=season conditioning requirements and making money. It's great for a team if they can work out together all summer, but financially, it's tough to pull off for most of the PL's.

We have an advantage in Williamsburg because of the tourist focused economy. Lots of summer work available.

Thanks for the info. I am hearing that Elon's program will peak with roughly 50% participation. This sounds like a good participation rate given the need to get summer income and the fact that the football program is still trying to establish itself.

According to one of the coaches, we have had 80-90 players participate in summer workouts. The players are coordinating their own pass run drills 3-4 times a week, and 11 signees are on campus taking the B term Summer semester and are already participating in workouts.

Gotta love the dedication.

I've heard ASU has 80-90 on campus. All true freshmen appear to be enrolled in summer school as well.
