I'm sure the official lists will come out later this week but I sat down and wrote out who I would have on the lists, along with noting the changes I made compared to the preseason lists.

There were a few others I could have easily mentioned but didn't want to put too many in the "just missed" category. I may have done that anyway in the Buchanan race.

The Rice list will grow the most as the season unfolds.

LB Quinn Backus, Coastal Carolina, Sr.- 51 TKL, 6 TFL, 3 SACKS, 1 INT, 3 PBU, 4 FF in 5 games.

Only Underwood is a new name to my top 10 or so names coming into the season. Trail is the best defensive player in FCS and is playing like it weekly. Wagenmann’s motor never stops and Underwood has really built on his sophomore season. He’s one of the best in the country now. Cowser is a name to keep an eye on this year and in 2015. Backus just keeps making plays and leading that nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina squad.

Edmonds is running away with is so far while Lakes, Woodson, and Tela have all become leaders of their respective units and are worth mention this year. Guzman is the best freshman punter in the country right now and potentially going to be an All-American.

I think Ross hasn't look as sharp as he should, but I am a little surprised you dropped him in favor of a couple of the other QBs on your list.

All of the others were on the official preseason list and not quite bad enough yet to drop them.

Emanuel > Wagenmann

He got slight edge because numbers are slightly better, extremely high motor, and was on the list in preseason. It was close. I almost put Emanuel in the top 5!

Emanuel > Wagenmann

I agree, without a doubt! I'm usually not real big into individual awards but it does amaze me how the hands down best defense in the country 4 years running rarely has players up for individual awards. Four games into 2014 and I have not seen anyone yet who can block Kyle Emanuel. The last Bison defensive lineman to play at this level was Phil Hansen! For those of you who don't know who he is look up, Buffalo Bills ring of honor!

Ross was on the official preseason list as well - so you think he is doing worse than all of the QBs on your list? Can you provide your reasoning?

He has been special. I think you could also mention Dudzik and Littlejohn as well. All 3 of them should be in NFL camps, along with John Crockett. You guys just have a stacked team. You don't have the best player in the country at a position neccarisly but you have many who would be top 3-5 at their position and not one single player who starts who is just bad. Every starter you have would start at most FCS teams and somewhere in the FBS. I think you have 8-9 players who could easily start in the ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, SEC, or Big Ten.

My reasoning here is not that he is doing worse than all of them but of the QBs who I could potentially drop at this point, he's the only one who has a better player on his own unit. TD/INT ratio for Ross is not that good. The only reason I left Bennett and Epperly are their rushing TDs are better than Ross. Nebrich has been lights out almost since the awful showing against Villanova.

I prefer Henderson over Ross and so I went with him. I'm not killing Ross. If he puts up a few big games then I will certainly flip them back. I have seen one of your games on tape and I was impressed with Henderson. He flashed for me last year and always marked him as a potential add since I saw him a couple times last season.

I try to stay away from two players on the same unit unless they are both clearly among the top 3 or 4 at their position and it's a no brainer.

Look at SIU. Pruitt is the best TE and Agnew is the leading rusher in a stacked MVFC. Then I have two from EWU. Adams is the top rated QB while Kupp is clearly still a top 2 WR. That's it.

What is weird for Emanuel is only having 3 QBH....he had that in one series against Montana. JJ was running for his life all game.

Maybe Montana tried to block him with one?

"Tried" has been the key word with our O-line this year.:(

Not often. Emanuel was getting a lot of attention and the tackle was getting help. Montana's OL will be a work in progress this season, but the talent is there.

If it is two players from the same unit, then I can see your point but I'm not sure if Henderson is going to put up strong enough numbers this year. He is a great athlete though. I think part of the problem with Ross or Henderson is that we try to be balanced so neither is going to have the gaudy numbers of more one dimensional offenses.

CB Harlan Miller, Southeastern Louisiana, Jr.- 8 TT in 4 games.

Harlan separated his shoulder early in the Tulane game and has really only played one full game and parts of two others. He'll be out at least a couple of more weeks it looks like.

Emanuel > Wagenmann

Yeah no kidding, that was a major fu8k up on that list that isnt even close.

He got slight edge because numbers are slightly better, extremely high motor, and was on the list in preseason. It was close. I almost put Emanuel in the top 5!

Wagenmann is the better player and will put up nice numbers the rest of the season. In the NDS/UM game, Emanuel was playing against a UM frosh, who started the season 4th on the depth chart. Grossly undersized at this point of his career. Was pressed into service due to an academic ineligible player and injuries. Emanuel had 3 tackles in the game, as did Wagenmann.

One thing that could end up killing Robertson is the huge, early leads we've been getting. Robertson was out midway through the 3rd against Fordham, and the snaps he saw in the 2nd half we're all pretty much hand offs. Likewise this week at Penn, he was on the sideline the whole 2nd half with a 34 point lead. Last week vs JMU he also did a ton of handing off to kill the clock and avoid injuries

Tough break! For a DB to have a shot they must have good numbers and now the only way he should be added back (meaning he has a shot) is if he can pick off 4 or 5 passes in his first 3 games back. He is going to need numbers to get back in the hunt.

Bison's statement is not accurate.

UM thinks Wagenmann is better and NDSU thinks Emanuel is better. Truthfully you can go with either one. I fully expected fans of both schools to stick up for their own guy.

Yes that happens. That is another reason why I think you have to put him up there. People should see he is leading his team to big wins. He's got to be in the top 5.

Meh....I know what game I watched and I guess respectfully disagree with you.

EDIT: I will add though, just because I think Emanuel is better than Wagenmann, I would still have Wagenmann in my top 5.

The better player can probably be debated for ever and we still wouldn't agree. I'm sure Wagenmann will put up nice numbers in the pass happy big fluffy where he can pin his ears back and not worry as much about the run game. We saw how great he was against a big physical oline and quality run game.

MyCole Pruitt of Southern Illinois won't win any national awards, but I can pretty much guarantee we'll be watching him play on Sundays next year. Dude is a beast. Purdue couldn't cover him with two guys.

Bisonater ...You do realize that Poly and PSU are perennial top 5 rushing attacks and even EWU has a near 50/50 pass to run ratio the last few years?

Wagenmann was basically invisible in the NDSU-Montana game, so these comments aren't exactly shock coming from NDSU fans.

I will add an unbiased source called Emmanuel the best player on the field in that game.

I'm happy to see Woodson on the list, extra special connection for me because I graduated HS with his older brother. I wonder if SFA's RB might go into broadcasting with FOX (although nobody can match that Gus Johnson's intensity).

I'll give you Poly but PSU sucks. And EWU is the top of the Fluffy and it isn't close. I wouldn't say any of them have big physical olines though.

Hmm...Montana traditionally has huge offensive lineman, although perhaps not this year because of all the injuries and other issues their O Line doesn't look quite the same as in the past. But traditionally, they have very good O Lines by any standard.

All of EWU's tackles are 6'6/6'7 300 pound athletic type guys and the guards are mostly 300+ pounders as well, save some of the younger kids. EWU runs the ball a lot, the exception being 2011 when pretty much our entire O Line was decimated. We're just not thought of as much of a running team because of the passing numbers.

Poly and PSU run the ball a lot and are usually in the top 5/10 in the FCS for rushing. NAU has also been a good running team in recent years, and Weber is usually a pretty physical team even if they haven't had a ton of success in the W/L column im recent years.

PSU may suck but they have typically finished in the top 10 of rushing in the nation the last few years. NAU and Cal Davis featured power running attacks last year. Davis is the same type of physical team on both sides of the ball this season with coach Ron Gould coming over from Stanford where he was the running backs coach. As mentioned above, Montana typically has big physical lines as does Weber.

He will definitely get a shot. The only downside to him is that he needs to be stronger as a blocker and he is just 6'2. I don't know if he would be an h-back or is truly a tweener. Some teams will have trouble finding where to fit him in their system but I'm sure someone will make him work. If he isn't drafted in the late rounds he will be a highly sought after player as a UDFA. I have a draftable grade on Pruitt as of now.

Wow, Pelletier getting recognition already as a freshman. The kid does have the tools to be another Spadola. We shall see how he progresses and builds up. Appears he has a frame to grow.
Surprised Varga not on the list. The guy is a BEAST.
