Zable has needed an upgrade. Last time I was there was when Joe Gibbs's boy was a reciever for y'all.

Awesome! About the same amount UNH is putting into Cowell. Both will be done around the same time too.

I recall that JD was a DB. That was indeed a ways back. In those days we could score a ton, but our defense often gave up a ton.

Unfortunately, yes.

Isn't there a practice field sort of behind the existing Zable home stands? In a perfect world the track could go there and the track infield still would be available for practice. Some of you guys came up to Lafayette and commented on our facilities (presumably some will come up next season as well); as part of our 2005 renovation we moved the track up to our stand-alone athletic campus. That made a huge difference. It's better for football and it's better for track, where they now get their own locker facilities.

I know, I'm wishing on your behalf. The only point is that it's been done elsewhere and I hope at least it was a consideration.

But the renditions of the new Zable look impressive to say the least. Congratulations to all W&M fans and hats off to the donors who made it possible.

The track never bothered me.

What bothers me is whether or not they will retain the end zone seats. It's part of what has always been distinct about Zable. I think demand will force them to keep them - it's. Just a totally different element in the end zones.

As an alumnus, I think it is beautiful and well earned. For a school like W&M to continue to investing in quality facilities and improvements, just shows me how football, believe it or not, is such an important aspect if the University. Really well done.

Looks excellent......Can one presume that the press box/coach's box/radio booths will be in that enclosed area above the new 2nd deck?

Are those portable/temporary bleachers in the end zones? Can't they be added in for any game as needed? That way the track stays in place.

Yes, they take them down just after football season every year. Zable is home base for the track & field team in the Spring and they host the Colonial Relays there every Spring, a pretty big annual t&f event.

i think it is more cost efficient given their size to keep them up throughout the season rather than on a temporary, as needed game basis.

What they offer is a complete spectator boundary around the field and for whatever reason, the end zones have become home to a rowdier group of spectators at both ends. They also offer a price break to the game, the GA sections in the end zone a decent bargain vs. sideline seats.

I am psyched for W&M. I like to commitment that the Tribe and also UR have shown to FCS high level football. This and Robins Stadium will help to ensure our excellent rivalry will continue far into the future.

C'mon Spider, you just pulled a Patsy. How are you gonna hijack a thread on someone else's good news and turn it around to be about your team? Maybe Richmond really does belong in the Patriot... ;)

They are our biggest rival after all... But I am actually pretty happy that this will mean that W&M and UR are on the same page when it comes to FCS football. Not sure JMU shares the two schools' sentiments toward the future of the sport on our campuses.

He was. I played with JD. Some of our games back then turned into track meets. Great to see the stadium get a facelift! Although I do like the "colonial" charm ...

The difference, W&M is upsizing while UR downsized.

Both have nice stadiums for the future.

Best thing about this is that they are finally addressing what's probably the only real drawback to an otherwise gorgeous Zable - this will improve sight-lines for the fans who get to sit in that upper deck. Way too many seats there are way too low and unless you're in the top rows the view of the actual play on the field is poor. But those upper deck seats will be prime real estate now - great view of the play on the field, plus a great view of just a gorgeous area and campus as well. Well done W&M.

Yes Carney - he might even designate a couple for you. I think it will help out Tribe compadres for a picture of "the Pard" - Carney can you please help?

Ok, you can bring Carney with you to the tailgate. But if he gets curmudgeon-like, we're kicking him out.

Posted on the W&M board, pretty cool below.

Found this video link of computer generated 3D models of the expansion...pretty exciting and gives a nice birds-eye perspective on the scope of the project. Looks pretty big!

Am I the only one who doesn't like Robins? You're way off the action no matter where you sit. It's a large edifice with a small capacity. Which is strange to me.

Admittedly, I've never seen a game there, but all of the views I've seen of it always seemed a bit off. But, I guess if you're trying to be impressive with a small capacity stadium, Robins is about as good as you're going to get.

I didn't enjoy it there last year but that had zippy to do with the stadium.

Frankly the renderings look a lot more like the FCS stadium a couple of hours drive west of Richmond.

Please be more specific. A couple of hours west of Richmond is the Appalachian Mountains if my geography and definition of "a couple" is correct.

UVA

We have the Blue Ridge mountains and Appy mountains.

JMU would be NW and Liberty SW. Push past UVA and go west to VMI.

You may be a swiper but you are also correct if you're measuring as a crow flies. The drive from W'burg to L'burg is a good 3 hrs. Stadiums will look pretty similar, though. I prefer Zable with the brick structures all around the stadium.

You're not alone. The stadium is fine, but the distance to the field is ridiculous. UR could have relocated the track and made the stadium much more intimate. Instead, you feel way removed from the action.

Beyond that, it's first class. Wish it were 12k, but oh well.

Sly -

That does look nice. I've never been, though. In that picture, there is a row of buildings on the other side of the road. Are those university buildings? (dorms, perhaps?). If so, how do students get across the road? Bridge under/tunnel over - can they walk?

Thanks!

I guess for us, compared to UR Stadium the view looks just fine.. But I agree, if we had the land and money, removing the track would have been ideal.

What will be the total capacity of Zable after the renovations?

No decision on that as yet. Depends on end zone configuration, and how wide seats are after renovation. Hoping around 14,000.
