WOW!!! Not much of an east coast (and even less southern) bias in that SOS.

I am a bit surprised that the two GWFC teams are UC-D and SDSU. I would have thought that Poly & NDSU with two IA's would be tougher.

They were:
MAINE
UC-DAVIS
NORTHERN IOWA
ILLINOIS STATE
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
and maybe:
WESTERN KENTUCKY

Texas A&M
Pittsburgh
Charleston Southern (hey, they are undefeated)
VMI (okay, a weak one)

If you add in travel time, game times and away games, tough schedules begin and end with Northeastern.

Five straight away games:
@ Virginia Tech
@ Holy Cross (possible Patriot League Champ)
@ North Dakota State (top 5 team I-AA)
@ JMU (possible A10 Champ and after a late airplane trip)
@ Richmond (top 20 I-AA)

Whew, now the Huskies are home:

Delaware
UNH (top 10 I-AA team)
UMass (top 10 I-AA team

Then away again

@ Maine (ask anyone what a joy it is to play in Orono)
@ Hofstra

And Home to Rhody. Seven straight top 20 teams. Seven away games.

Retire the trophy .:D

Not a trophy we want, and when you consider we lost to Richmond by 5 (and missed 2 FG's), and UMass by a TD (albeit in a monsoon), you can't really complain about being 3-5 with a REAL young team.

Next year there's some sanity to the schedule as we have at least 5 home games and at least one in September. The insanity comes with playing Northwestern and Northwestern St. in 2 of our first 3 games.

Luckily we're going to Orono this weekend where it won't be as chilly as one would expect.

I'm not sure I'd want to make a strength of sched list based only on Sagarin. Think the GPI list would give a true and much clearer SOS picture because it would be based on the average of many ranking lists.

It's been noted over and over here on AGS that the Sagarin is not always a great I-AA indicator. Just my :twocents:

I've always said it. With the Big Sky regular season, COMBINED with OOC scheduling vs the Great West and I-A schools, the BSC is at a disadvantage.  : smh : : smh :

Although we had no I-A team, we still have faced 6 ranked teams by the end. The other 5 ranked A-10 teams and App St.

JMU definitely had one of the harder schedules. Can anyone else say they played away at 2 #1 Teams in the country?

Not buying it that Montana has one of the toughest schedule. According to the stats in I-aa.org, Montana ranks 44 and Montana St. 100 when looking at combined past and future competition's win%. What this helps provide is the unbiased advantage of schedule strength from adding a I-A. Beating Colorado means very little in this method. Sag. biases I-A competition as much stronger, perhaps too much. JMU was listed at 22. Just another tool, I know it has its flaws as well.

Yeah but most of those schools have a tough SOS because they play you, just because you have a tough SoS doesn't mean that you are a good team, so therefore I don't think you can make that assumption.

No, I think your thinking about South Dakota, I meant San Diego. CSU's SOS is at 229, 13 spot from being the very worst in all D-I football.
