Sumner over Kollmorgen is a joke, IMO.

Same with Ruiz getting HM over John Crockett.

Kollmorgen missed 3 games with concussions so Sumner's total numbers look better. That's all that matters in this poll.

63% completion vs 58%
139.11 eff vs 132.01 eff
1 TD every 17 pass vs 1 TD every 22 pass

Whatever, Kollmorgen will be there at the end of the season.

I thought those were odd but the coaches voted based on how they perceive the players.

I also would have put Barton over Greger on the OL.

Ruiz is very good. I would prefer Crockett but I honestly can see someone going either way. Ruiz is a better all around player but Crockett is a better pure runner in my mind. Just depends on if you want someone who has shown to catch the ball or if you don't throw the ball to the back.

I can see either way in terms of a preseason team but I personally have Kollmorgen ahead on my list, as stated before.

UNI has a lot of talent. Looking at your starting lineup I would guess that you have 4 first-team picks on offense this year. (Vereen, Rummells, Johnson, and Kollmorgen)

Pretty insulting list not to have 6'2" 240 pound OLB Tyler Williamson even on honorable mention--he makes things happen on Defense like none other in the league.

Well... I had a buddy text me today saying posters in panther nation were blaming him for last season and saying he isn't consistent enough throwing the ball to lead this team anywhere... So...

A little surprised he did not make HM for sure. I figured he would be a 1st or 2nd team selection in the postseason. He's good coming off the edge and is solid in coverage.

His ability to cause fumbles by his stripping technique is pretty good--had three caused fumbles last season and six in two seasons. That ability sometime changes games.

I hope the extra weight hasn't cost him a step. Like to see a blitz package with him and the OLB from Minnesota coming from the same side.

Kollmorgen definitely should be there instead of Sumner and as far people blaming him for UNI's season last year, that is just plain stupid. He took a lot of hits in the game with us, but he stood in there and took the abuse and made some very good throws considering the pressure in was under. Most qbs in the MVFC would have been ducking and running, but he stood in there and waited as long as he could for someone to come open and he took a few big hits because of it, but also hit some big throws as well......much respect for Sawyer.

Like I said...there's a reason I don't go to PN anymore.

That NDSU game was brutal on this UNI team, and supposedly where he suffered his first concussion. You could see it with the way was off with his passes, which isn't normally him. The ball looked more wobly than normal and didn't have as much zip. Part of that was probably concussion, part of it was the defensive pressure he faced.

Other than that game he was 144-215 (67%) 1691 yards (212 YPG 11.8 YPC) 13 TD 4 INT 150 efficiency rating.

So...Yeah.

Home games in bold

The schedule sets up REAL nice for Illinois State - 4 easy OOC games all at home, avoid NDSU the next two years. It looks like their offense returns about 80% of their total stats from last season and their defense seems to be about 50%. There's no talk about them so I don't have a good read on them. They could be a 9 win team, but I don't see them being less than a 6 win team. Nothing about them really stands out to me good or bad. Only playing 11 games could be an issue come playoff time sitting at 7-4 but 4-4 in conference. I have them losing the tie breakers for any team that would be tied with them so I see them on the bubble, but the wrong side.

This here. Was a very physical game and I remember wondering how some of the guys were able to lift themselves from the turf and get off the field...players from both teams. But especially Kollmorgen.

The schedule is book-ended like a bear, no pun intended, for MSU, not that the middle is much easier. It's a real tough schedule for MSU this year. I could maybe see 6 wins, but I can just as easily see 2. I don't see much chance of MSU winning any of their last 3, so if they want a chance to sniff the bubble they better run the front part of that schedule clean. I think this is TA's last season in Springfield before heading back to UNI as an assistant.

I feel really good about this team, if healthy. My preseason #1 in the nation. Maybe I'm a homer. I also realize the back end of that schedule is a b****. I won't be shocked to see at least 1, if not 2, L's form ISUr, NDSU, and SIU. I see all of those as 1 score games but having ISUr and NDSU at home helps. I also won't be all that shocked if the team finds a way to pull off a W in Iowa City.

All depends on the lines. I see Iowa State, Montana, SIU, and UNI as toss up games this season. I don't know why, other than just gut, but I think SIU trips NDSU. I could be real wrong on that since it is NDSU's homecoming and that game is book-ended by WIU and ISUb. Montana I give the edge to NDSU only because it's at home. I won't be shocked to see them lose that one. I'm not looking forward to that week, or the week after, on this site to be honest. The amount of absolute garbage that will be posted will be at an all time record high. I could see anywhere from 8-4 to 11-1. I don't think they get through unsaved. I also don't think they lose all 4 of the games I have as 50/50s. I'm most likely to pull the L off of SIU and throw it to Montana if anything, but MVFC teams play NDSU better than anyone else, plus NDSU has Incarnate Word the game before. That's 2 solid weeks of Montana planning.

I might see us taking them out on Homecoming if we played them right after Montana but I think the trap game for the Bison will be WIU, who is my pick for the exceed-expectations award this year.

They could be a 2 win team, they could be a 6 win team, but I'm not confident in picking anything more than 4. The Missouri State game I have as a complete toss up with MSU winning because it's at MSU. I could be WAY off of this. I just don't know if I see USD catching the breaks they did last year, and when I do this it isn't about projecting who gets what breaks and who gets what injuries. It is comparing a healthy first team vs a healthy first team. I won't be completely shocked to see 5 or 9 out of this team, but I don't know where to put them without starting to play the "what if" game.

I agree completely. If you'll go back to that you'll I edited my post with an updated reasoning.

Your game with them book-ended with a game to make it a trap for NDSU. I can't tell and I'm not over 50% confident.

If their OL can get ZZ enough space their offense will be "good enough". The defense worries me some here, they lose (from what I can see) 60ish% of their front 7 and about half their secondary stats. I could see another W in there, but I can see 2 more Ls there as well.

In this case I think SIU is your trap game. Your game with NDSU is going to take a lot of focus and emotion I'd be surprised if it isn't circled already. In fact I like our chances better if you do knock off NDSU.

Like always I'm worried about the SIU game. I hate the fact it is after NDSU. I'd love to see the MSU SIU games switched.

SIU is the other game I see as a "potential" loss if "nothing goes wrong"

Western Illinois gets a lot of respect from fans this year for the surprise team, and I can see why. They return their entire offense, more or less, and have a top flight (in conference) QB. They return over 50% of their defensive stats, but returning a poor unit, even if they improve, still leaves them bottom half of the conference in defense. I can see anywhere from 1 conference win for them all the way to 4, depending how things happen. I'm just not confident in picking any of them. I would take them against USD and YSU if they were at home. More than any team, I think they are a victim of their schedule this year.

If WIU is the victim of their schedule, YSU is the benefactor of theirs. Typical extremely soft OOC to pad win count and missing UNI for the next 2 years. They'll be good enough to beat the bottom teams but not good enough to beat any top teams. I don't know why I went with YSU over Illinois State, I really don't. They'll miss the playoffs.

SDSU and SIU tie for 3rd. Tie break is as follows
H/H - They didn't play
Record vs common opponents - same at 6-2
GPI - can't predict that **** so I'm going with SDSU having the tougher OOC as the edge.

Playoffs I have 4 MVFC programs
UNI top 2 seed
NDSU top 4 seed
SDSU - first round bye
SIU first round bye

I won't be shocked to only see 3 teams if it plays that way though. There is too much separation between the bottom and top in that scenario. It's a very fine line for the MVFC to walk. Can't have too much and not have enough of a middle, but you can't have too little and have too big of a middle.

SIU and SDSU don't play each other this year, what is the tie-breaker?

The MVC won't get 4 teams, deserving or not.

Too many good RB's in this conference to point him out though. DJ, Crocket, Zenner, and Ruiz.

TWO TEAMS ARE TIED
1. In there is a two-team tie following the round-robin results and the two tied teams played each other, the winner of the game will be declared champion.

2. If the tied teams did not play each other, then each team’s record against all common opponents in the league will be used to determine the automatic bid.

3. If the teams are still tied, then each team’s record against the next highest common opponent in the league standings will be used to determine the automatic bid.

4. If the teams are still tied, the latest available GPI ranking prior to NCAA selection shall be used as the final tiebreaker.

I can see a W vs Purdue (especially if the game was 2 or 3 weeks earlier), UNI (damn SIU), and NDSU. I can also see Ls to Youngstown St or Illinois St.

I can see us looking past MSU to UNI and getting sniped. They always play us tough.

I hope the extra weight hasn't cost him a step. Like to see a blitz package with him and the OLB from Minnesota coming from the same side.

Hey bro, I think they must follow our postings over at the football office. Today his listed weight was reduced from 240 to 234! Also FYI OT Ethan Worth is now up to 306 (6'6") AA TE Mycole Pruitt is 255 (6'3"). His backup and heir apparent Shaq Findlater is 6'3" 265 and the TE that will start when the Dawgs go to two-TE power running is 6'7" 260 pound Adam Fuehne. MG Dakota Upchurch from harrisburg will get time at NT at 6'6" 266

Mark Iannotti the transfer QB from EMU is listed on the new roster as 6'2" 227! The three possible starters at guard are 6'4" 321 Jake Notario, 6'5" 300 Kijana Evans and 6'3" 323 pound Jamarcus Robinson.

Is that the same Iannotti that committed to UNI, then to another school, then to UNI again, the disappeared completely?

I remember an Iannotti being committed to UNI at one point with a strange path.

Well... I had a buddy text me today saying posters in panther nation were blaming him for last season and saying he isn't consistent enough throwing the ball to lead this team anywhere... So...

There's a reason i don't go there anymore

Yeah I don't go there anymore either. When there is something controversial going on I will go there and see what the crazies are saying about it. I still don't do that very often.

I really think it will be mostly the same QB situation as last year with Kollmorgen being the starter and Carnes coming in for some situational duty. The beauty is after last year and Carnes playing the last half of the season basically teams will have to respect that we could throw with him instead of a given run every time. I really am not sure I like the 2 QB situation at all, but my guess is that is what we are going with. Kollmorgen is a great player, and I hope he progresses as I think he should.

Apparently four year starter and 2011 championship game MVP Travis Beck isn't one of the top 12 linebackers in the Valley.

Not really. I know Williamson and others are listed but they have 3 teams. If they just did a 1st and HM then Williamson and some of your other guys would not have made it. I don't see how someone can list the top 6 RBs and not have Agnew on it as well.

I agree about Agnew--you can't expect to have every one of your favorite players on a team but as a fan of course I still like having seven Salukis instead of two. Naturally I'm kind of just kidding too since the post season teams probably more important to players and fans than pre-season--by the way, I predict Williamson (who some on the board seem to be rather dismissive of) will fare very well on post season awards--but bring on the season and we'll see who's right.

I can understand Agnew being under the radar as RB heavy as the MVC is and I think Williamson will get a lot more attention this season from OCs.
