Thought I would make a thread where everybody can post their conference preseason poll and offer some overall discussion as we head into the preseason poll for AGS and get ready for everybody reporting back to school next week

Looking at these preseason predictions has me curious... Has there ever been a team who did not win their conference, but made the playoffs as an At-Large and won the National Championship?

I looked this up once, and I thought it had been almost half of the NC's, but that's just my recollection. It's definitely happened before. EWU did not win the autobid in 2010.

I believe there have been several. Without looking anything up, I believe both Richmond in 2008 and James Madison in 2004 won the national championship, but not the CAA championship.

If UTC ever wins a NC, should we all be more ashamed that they won, or that we always expect them to fail?

I just looked back over the preseason polls released so far a second time, and Im no math major, but I think the difference between 464 and 416 (Eastern Washington to Montana) is bigger than the difference between 235 and 203 (UTC and Furman) so wouldn't that make EWU the biggest favorite so far? (Which would mean the Mocs come up short...again...)

Technically, the difference should be judged if the two comparisons were on equal terms. If you cut both 464 and 416 in half, you have 232 and 208 vs. 235 and 203. Therefore, not to defend the dark side or anything, but Chattanooga does have a better advantage on these grounds.

Neither won of you are math majors at all. 29 of 30 1st place votes, vs 34 of 36 first place votes. STFU

And apparently you aren't/weren't an English major. I look at the overall points instead of just the first place votes because that can be better extrapolated.

Alright my foul mouthed friend...I have a little side wager I would like to venture to you:

if UTC wins the SoCon OUTRIGHT, and Liberty does not win the Big South outright (both conditions must. be met) then I will wear a UTC jersey as my avatar and post a pic to AGS holding a sign stating "chattownmocs is my daddy" and keep that avatar through the entire 2015 season all the way to the championship game.

I thought St. Francis was tough last year. What's up with the last place votes? Did the get crushed by graduation?

Sacred Heart deserves to be in my top 25 btw. I made a mistake by not putting them in there.

St. Francis lost its entire defensive coaching staff when associate head coach Scott Benzel left to take the head coaching job at D-3 Westminster. Three assistants went with him.

The Red Flash also lost far-and-away their best weapon on offense last year, running back Kyle Harbridge, to graduation, plus their top receiver. They also lost some key defensive contributors, though they still have two of the best corners in the league.

Also, it's possible St. Francis wasn't voted high because they are ineligible for the postseason. They were penalized by the NCAA for APR issues, so even if they go undefeated, they won't be recognized as NEC champs or get to go the postseason.

It's kind of interesting to see how the league is appraising two rivals who are both in transition years. St. Francis isn't being thought highly of, while Robert Morris - with a new head coach (though he's been on the staff for a decade), new QB, no more All-American left tackle and a ton of new starters on D - is considered one of the top three teams in the league.
