As I've already said, the SoCon is down this year. It's working against you.

Nevermind the fact that it took you 2OT to beat GSU, who lost to Chatt., who lost to NDSU 34-14, ...etc.

I'm not a guy who will keep a team in the same spot in a poll just because they haven't lost.

I think that's BS and I won't do it.

You might see me with UMass #1 next week if both UMass and ILL State win.

I agree. You can't knock them off b/c of a tough OT road win. Plus, if you base a drop in rankings on a bad win, then you have to look at JMU 14, Bloomsburg 3.

1. App State
2. Montana
3. Ill. State
4. UMass

oh yeah, cause you can judge a team by the play of its whole conference:rolleyes:

So I guess by that logic, that Southern Utah should be a top 25 team since 3 of the other 4 teams in their conference are ranked, PLEASE

Pretty easy to defeat your counter.

You CAN take the top team in a weak league down.

You CAN'T take the low team in a strong league up.

Well, considering we dominated your #4 team, doesn't say much for your "logic"

I understand that a conference as a whole can affect a teams SOS, but if you aren't looking at that team individually then thats just idiotic. ASU is no worse than #3 right now, I don't care what "logic" you use.

Actually, it doesn't have any relevance to my logic.

You beat the low team in a strong league. Good for you. So what?

You're still the best team in a weak league. And that's dragging you down.

Don't worry you're still in the top 10. You're going to the playoffs. You'll have your chance to prove yourself.

still doesn't answer as to why a tough rivalry game win by ASU knocks them out of the top 5, but a tight win against a weak weber st. keeps montana in it... that don't make no sense!

You can't go by scores in all games. I believe ASU whipped UTC pretty good and if you went by scores you would have thought GSU would beat UTC, but they did not.

I agree about NDSU being a top team. I think they are a legit 4-7 team right now.

To me UMASS would be #1 if they had beaten somebody tough lately. URI is not very good and neither is W&M and others. I want to see how they do in the last few games before I say they are tops. I have ASU #1 and then UMASS #2.

I always think about the bullseye a #1 team has on their back and how tough it is to actually stay #1 for a while. ASU almost felt the curse of the #1 that we have seen the last couple years. They came out of a tough game with a win so they are my top team this week. However, UMASS could make a huge statement over the next couple of week while ASU has really just one test in Furman. If ASU beats Furman Saturday I don't see anyone else beating them until the Semis at best.

[QUOTE]

Rivalry is overrated. Rival teams change in stature. I.E. UMass played URI this week, They've played URI more over their history than any other team (rivalry?!?). They manhandled them to a 41-16 victory. Rivalry games are BS. A team doesn't get better because it's playing another team that it has a tough history with. They have to have talent to begin with.

I can totally see MplsBison's logic. It's rational. Just because the BMW 3 series is the benchmark doesn't mean it's the best. It means that everyone else has to perpetually catch up.

Funny how everyone forgets that UMass beat a then RANKED Towson team 35-0 last week. Oh, and THREW 5 TD passes to a team that had allowed TWO in all their other games this season combine. Sooner or later people will begin to realize that it's not the other teams being crappy, it's just that UMass is clicking THAT WELL recently.

You can't go by scores in all games. I believe ASU whipped UTC pretty good and if you went by scores you would have thought GSU would beat UTC, but they did not.

I agree. I think you almost have to leave teams in I-AA at their same ranking even in a close in-conference game because we don't have nearly the tv coverage to actually evaluate how a team played. All we pretty much see is stats and grumbling from fans. Here's an example. We rarely blow out teams in conference. As far as the Griz, everybody in our conference usually gives us their "A" game. That doesn't mean we (or ASU or who ever else is winning but winning ugly) doesn't have one of the top teams in the country. But you wouldn't know it by looking at some of the low scoring games we have had in the past.

2004
ISU homecoming W 24-22
@ EWU W 31-28
@ PSU L 32-35
N. Wstrn St first round playoffs W 56-7
New Hampshire 2nd round W 47-17
Sam Houston 3rd round W 34-13
and loss to JMU in the champ.

Same in 2000
Sacramento State (Homecoming) W 24-20
@ Cal State - Northridge * W 34-30
Idaho State * * W 38-21
@ Weber State * * W 30-28
Then we went on to lose by 2 to GSU in the N. Champ. That's why I don't think you can drop a team because they didn't blow out somebody in their conference, especially on the road.

We hadn't won a game at Paulson in 10 years and we won this one with a -4 turnover ratio, I think thats says something about our team more than the fianl score. I will take the win and whatever ranking comes with it.

AG04 let's just win the remaining games the ranking will take care of itself as the Gateway and A-10 teams continue to beat each other.

A 10-1 ASU team would be ranked #1, if the boys take it one game at a time and can limit their turnovers ASU wins the next 3 weeks.

We play in the A10 not some crappy conference. The A10 is rated 2nd in last weeks GPI by far. We also have played a I-A school who is 5-2. We have outscored the teams we have played 252-78.

I enjoy looking at the polls and when I get really into it, I realize that if JMU wins out they'll be seeded, so I could care less what the polls say, just whether or not my team is playing well.
