Apparently, heads will roll in Princeton next season if the Tigers don't go undefeated.

Not having Lehigh as your first game will help out,so you don't start 0-1 AGAIN.

They must be reading Al Bagnoli's playbook.

I was thinking the same thing....

They'll get bitten in the arse once or twice this year, despite having the easiest OOC schedule in the Ivies.

Agreed that Princeton's OOC should be tougher. I can only assume that the games were scheduled while Princeton was still struggling with 1-9 seasons a few years back.

But I'll tell you what I'm thinking--what will be the resulting consequences if/when the "unacceptable" occurs and Princeton loses a game this fall?

Will the Princeton captains resign their captaincies?

Will Coach Surace write a letter of apology to the Princeton community?

Will assistant coaches be fired?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Good for them. It's never bad to strive for perfection.

If you mean "perfection" by "ducking Lehigh", well...

If they had just said that their goal is to go undefeated (full stop), nobody would have any problem with that.

To say that they consider a 9-1 season "unacceptable," then.... they open themselves up for ridicule.

But YMMV.

If San Diego doesn't get them, Davidson will............Princeton is better than that OOC schedule. Hate to see the Ivies going for cheap wins.

Meh, Lehigh ducks NDSU every year. We would still give credit for undefeated.

Princeton is only two years removed from back-to-back 1-9 seasons. Pretty sure that the 2014 OOC games were scheduled while that dry stretch was going on.

Happily, Princeton has improved much siince then. Unfortunately, their OOC games are still on the books.

Princeton has become Lehigh's biggest OOC rival over the last 20 years. It's a bit disappointing they're not on the schedule this year.

Princeton won the Ivy title last year and Lehigh played one of their best games of the year and beat them on the road. Lehigh also scheduled UNH at home and beat them. Maybe it's not Albany circa 2006, but it ended up being a decent OOC slate last year.

For 2011 a better case could be made. There Lehigh's "schedule strength" came from Liberty, and when they struggled, they didn't have another quality OOC win really to point to.

Not a great non-conference schedule, but still better than Davidson's.

Faint praise, my friend.

And hey- maybe College of Faith beats Davidson. In that case, Princeton will have the weaker OOC slate.

This. I don't like the fact that they have deliberately watered down the schedule for the past decade or so. Think of a caliber D-III program in a similar (academic and athletic) capacity: Washington U. Last season, they were in the Road to Salem after a good SOS (they played the eventual NC, Whitewater, in their first game.) Some seasons before that, though, they weren't, and so were the Chicago Maroons (or Carnegie Mellon or Case) in the seasons that they were the leader in the UAA (because of a weak SOS for all, and the UAA isn't an autobid league in D-III football playoffs.)

Unfortunately, their OOC games are still on the books.

That's why the rest of the FCS couldn't contact us if there are any openings on their schedules for this season or the season after that. xsmhx Something REALLY has to change in the Ivies' system.

As good as some Iv's have been, will they ever start ON time.and join the playoffs?(yes I know the excuses.....) How does the football community feel when they see an IV go the Big Dance?

Maybe never... they are just giving moral support to the men's basketball team.

Harvard was part of that trend. While nobody says Harvard has scheduled "cheap" wins, Murphy's OOC schedules have clearly been a step down from Restic's. Other than a couple games against Northeastern, Murphy has pretty much limited himself to the Patriots and San Diego. Restic almost always played Army, William & Mary, and UMass--sometimes in the same year.

Harvard is dropping HC after this year's game. It'll be interesting to see who they replace us with.

This is a pretty bold claim... then why didn't they schedule Lafayette? A win more guaranteed than San Diego...
