Just a quick note I read this morning. Corey Graham who left the game last week is expected to miss the next month of the season with a broken leg. Graham plays defense and returns kicks. Its a good thing we got Boyle back last week for the return game.

Another UNH blowout game, especially after last week

Northeastern has had two blowout losses, Va Tech and James Madison. UNH would be the third.

Damn this Atlantic 10, go from undefeated with the number one ranking one week to a "everygame is crucial for our playoff hopes", Cats need to get some confidence back.. I would like to see that kid Robert Simpson get a few more snaps from what I seen of him this year he is one hell of a running back, even if it was with the second team he was very Impressive.. Here is the local paper write up on Graham:

Tougher to stomach is the news that cornerback Corey Graham, the team's best defensive player and one of the Atlantic 10's top kick returners, will be out four-to-six weeks after breaking his leg in the loss.

Graham broke the fibula in his left leg in the third quarter when he made contact with James Madison wide receiver Ardon Bransford near the sideline. After lying on his back for several moments, he was helped to the sideline by the Wildcats' medical staff, his left leg hovering off the ground.

"Right now he's in a brace," UNH coach Sean McDonnell said Monday. "They'll cast him later this week. Hopefully he'll be back by the end of the (regular) season. We'll see how quick a healer he is."

I think this game will be closer than people think. I only say this because Northeastern has a strong running game and might be able to keep the ball out of Ricky's hands. This game will still be won by UNH no doubt, but will not be a blowout. The rediculously windy conditions will slow the UNH offense down. This is the A-10 gentleman and anything can happen. UNH wins a close one for them 28 to 21.

IMO,Simpson is the best RB on this team.He has the speed Ward lacks, and runs with more power than Kackert.Kaysonne Anderson is another guy I'd like to see get more playing time.Regarding Graham's injury,he said yesterday that he was told by the docs that he wouldn't need any rehab time once the bone heals and that he can begin playing again at that point.Good luck to the `Cats today - I'm heading to Parsons in about 5 minutes and am looking forward to a good game.I'm not so sure it will be a blowout.Northeastern has had some tough competition to prepare and has had a week off to get their act together. They should be ready.

I think the running backs are aligned perfectly on the depth chart. Chris Ward is a bruising back and Kackert is one of the hardest working freshman I have ever seen. He refuses to go down. The one two punch between those two makes it hard for anyone else to stand out. If Simpson has a weakness its his inability to catch the ball out of the backfield, but he runs about as hard as anyone and if you give him a step you arent goin to catch him. Unfortunatly most of his big runs have come when the game was already put away. He will continue to prove himself as his career evolves.

I just got back from the game, and I'm afraid I have to agree with you.The defense played fairly well at times, but when they were called on to make the stops at the end, they couldn't do it.In their favor though, I will say that they were missing 4 defensive starters today and that didn't help.At this rate, I'll be surprised if they even make the playoffs. It's frustrating, and reminds me in a way of the Azumah/Kreider days. They also had a decent QB,yet never made the playoffs during those four years mainly because the defense wasn't up to the job.Maybe it's a recruiting problem;they don't exactly get the cream of the crop.

IMO...McDonnell plays all of his best players on offense. You must sacrifice a little offensive fire power to put some of your better athletes on defense

They have completely abandon the running game, allowing teams to drop 7 and look pass first and run second. When they were going good they were running the ball consistantly and affective. Today they ran very affective to start the game and just abandoned it, it drives me nuts.

I'm not counting UNH out of the playoffs. They are a very talented team. But it will be difficult in light of the fact that they will probably have to run the table against Hofstra, UMass, Maine and URI. 1 more loss and they would be in a pretty difficult situation. But UNH is certainly capable of running the table.

Better skill players? Every player on our D is better skilled then their whole D. Coen has a higher passer rating then Santos, aint far behind in tds and around the same yardage. Baylark is better then any runningback they have. London, Moore, and Rancher are equal to their WRs. Our OLine is better then theres as well. They have given up 6 sacks in 7 games.

Just got home from the Husky Homecoming Doubleheader... hockey team won 5-0 over Union tonight.

Both the football game and hockey games were sellouts. According to the folks at NU transportation, Parsons was so crowded that about 500-600 students who wanted to take the shuttle over to campus were told that there was no room left at the field - that's insane.

As for the game. As soon as NU scored, a bunch of use knew Hager would go for 2. It's homecoming, 6,500+ fans, you choked against W&M the SAME WAY last year on homecoming, you're 2-4, you've got a young team, a new President, and you can't stop UNH on defense with 14 guys on the field.

UNH was going to score every time it got the ball in OT, so Hager throws caution to the wind and goes for it.

Ballsy call. No doubt. Give the man credit, his teams have had a rap against them since he took over that NU's record in close games was pitiful.

Great to see UNH Alum in CT at the game - he got to partake in our homecoming feast.

Just think of this, NU is 2 missed field goals against Richmond away from being 4-3 and 3-1.

Simply a wonderful weekend at Northeastern.

(by the way, no WAY we beat UMass... and another sellout at Parsons is a strong possibility with the Minutemen and Benedict Brown coming to town)

You hit the nail on the head with your comment about the ground game. They have to put more effort into that part of their offense.I'd like to see Simpson and Anderson figure into the equation once in awhile.I thought Kackert was looking good in the first quarter, but I don't think he carried the ball for the rest of the game. That was a mystery.I thought he might be hurt, but I did see him later on kickoff returns. The bottom line is,this team should be able to utilize the running game with no problem.

I tried to post this yesterday, but I got error messages that sounded like more people than the server could handle were logged on!!! Hope some of the UNH folks still feel like talking about the game.

Misc. comments:

I'm going to play devil's advocate on the running game. Haven't we run more than pass all year? Didn't we run more than we passed in the 1st Quarter yesterday? We had a HUGE advantage in TOP in the 1st Quarter (11:14 to 3:46) yet only scored seven points. That to me is what cost the ball game -- not scoring more points in the first half. Too many penalties, missed field goals, dropped passes, etc. Just too many disruptions to the offense keeping them from being as efficient as in the past.
While the defense didn't make the key stops down the stretch, they did a very credible job through three quarters. NU only scored one TD before the 4th Qtr. That gave the offense plenty of time to score points. In the past couple of seasons that would have been enough for the offense to put the game away!
The offense put the defense in a serious hole with the INT that gave NU the ball on the 5. The ensuing short field TD gave the Huskies a serious spark. Then the return guy's fumble led to a punt out of the end zone and another short field drive for NU. I don't know how much more the defense could have been asked to provide?
On that INT deep in UNH territory in the 4th quarter, did anybody else see Boyle wide open over the middle for what would have been a huge gain and 1st down at a minimum?
How did David Ball get so open on the tying TD? With :07 left in the game, the ball on the 21 yard line, the prior pass thrown toward Ball (inadvisably), etc. I was shocked that Ball was open and that there wasn't anybody to come up on him to hit him after the catch (outside the end zone).
This game was a classic case of allowing an underdog to stay in the game and the longer they stayed in the game, the more they felt they could win the game. NU scored on their last four possessions for a well deserved win.
Northeastern and Delaware are proving, as usual, how good the "next tier" teams in the A-10 are!
For all the yapping by a couple of Minuteman fans, are either of you willing to acknowledge that this year there is an unusual disparity in quality between the South teams that the North teams have to face? We'll never know but I don't think UMass and Maine would have come through Delaware, JMU and Richmond 3-0 this year. :twocents:
I think I'm just now coming out of the caloric coma from the NU Guy/Husky Alum Feeding Frenzy Tailgate!! :rotateh: Many thanks!! Enjoyed the time talking with your group!!!

We all know that the UNH Defense isn't the reincarnation of the 1986 Chicago Bears, but yesterday with what four starters out they held NU to seven points until almost the ten minute mark of the 4th Quarter. JMHO, but the offense has to put points on the board. Our strength is offense! To use a hockey cliche, "bury the biscuit"! You can have a territorial edge and your goal tender can stone wall the opposition, but if you don't put the puck in the net, you're not going to win. I'm still of the opinion that the inefficiency of the offense is the primary cause of the past two defeats.
