The 2013 football season was a historical one for the OVC, as three teams made the FCS Playoffs for the first time and each won a game, snapping a 19-game losing streak in the posteason for the league. Eastern Illinois finished the year as the No. 1 ranked offense nationally and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was named the National Player of the Year.
