This should it for NDSU...

Sounds like there are a couple other recruited walk-ons who aren't signing a NLI with NDSU today but are planning to enroll this fall and be part of the team; Nate Nord and Matt Wolter (http://bisonation.info/preferred-walk-ons-pwo-2014/).

20 scholarship recruits, 10 PWOs, and 1 transfer. I'd say the cupboard is restocked. Now time to see how well they can be developed and retained.

Was very impressed with Illinois St's class this year. Alec Kocour was a high target for NDSU that Illinois St beat them out on so I'll be watching him closely as he progresses as a Redbird.

Outstate - 4

Main Supplemental (10-15% of remaining contributors come from the I-29 corridor)

South Dakota - 1
Sioux Falls - 1

Omaha Area - 3

Kansas City Area - 2 (one of these is a transfer from B1G program Nebraska)

Other In-region (a few significant contributors)

Iowa - 1
Waterloo/Cedar Falls Area - 1

Chicago Area - 1

Non-region (good intentions, but typically don't contribute to the program - with notable exceptions, of course)

Michigan - 1
Florida - 1

Pretty typical distribution for NDSU, focusing on the areas I like to see. I'd generally consider KC and Chicago as the farthest limits from where you want to recruit from. Don't like to see recruits from the non-region areas, as the numbers don't lie and indicate those players won't stick around Fargo long enough to contribute to the program. But of course I wish all of these players the best of luck with their studies and their time on the team while in Fargo!

Please recruit Texas and Louisiana. Those aren't NDSU recruiting areas - for good reason.

Missouri - stay over in St Louis and stay out of KC.

St. Louis area is an 8 hour drive from Minneapolis, going right through Iowa City and Cedar Falls on the way. THEN another 4 hours to Fargo. And it's generally a mild winter area.

I just don't see many STL area players being significant contributors to NDSU's program, unless they play immediately before they transfer or leave. And that is not good for the APR rating.

I'm just saying we have coaches with an extensive background recruiting that area. We had a few recruits from that area this year, lost one to Wyoming. One of our promising young linebackers Pierre Gee Tucker is from the St Louis metro. Andre Martin was also from St Louis, recruited to UNI by the coaches now on our staff.

Your points are valid.

NDSU typically brings in one or two (hopefully no more than that) non-region players each year. So I would much rather have those players come from STL than California, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Texas or any other states that have poor records under Bohl's tenure of producing a high percentage of contributing players of those that sign with NDSU.

(And before the crows start crowing about Holloway and McNorton - the two most obvious exceptions to the rule - just take a look at the total number of kids Bohl signed out of Houston first. I know they had good intentions and I know Coach Moore busted his butt recruiting down there - but it went for naught.)

That said, I'd highly encourage this staff to focus on taking players out of Waterloo/Cedar Falls/Cedar Rapids/Iowa City and outstate Iowa north of I-80 before putting significant time into STL. If you think their previous skills will be good for STL, how about the fact that the HC and DC are *from Waterloo*?? That ought to be worth something.

That's the thing though - NDSU football has more money than UNI football. So at the end of the day, UNI can never win. We can always just out spend them, buy their coaches, etc. We will always prevail, because money is the ultimate golden goose.

The only verbal commit at the time Bohl left who didn't sign yesterday was WR Isaiah Lesure who signed with Western Illinois. Both Winters (Wyoming) and Szczyrback (UNI) verballed to NDSU after Bohl left and ended up signing elsewhere. Winters actually had Wyoming interest (he may have even been offered) before Bohl even was hired and he was offered at Wyoming and had his official visit scheduled to Wyoming before he verballed to NDSU so to lose him to Wyoming wasn't all that shady IMO.

I think what iowastatebison was getting at: were there any recruits who said something like "Oh...Coach Bohl is not going to be my coach at NDSU now.....well, now I don't want to go to Fargo and play for that program anymore"?

And frankly, the answer to that question is no. There is no such thing at NDSU.

Sure, Bohl was a great CEO of Bison football, great with the media, a great advocate for the program and a great salesman of the program. But NDSU football is a program. It's much, much more important than one man. As was expected, they simply hired a new CEO to take over exactly where Bohl left off.

That's why we would never and never will lose a recruit simply because one man is not the coach anymore. The program has too much going for it for that to happen.

That was true for a while and then Craig Bohl got a new job at Wyoming and proceeded to poach their top recruits.

Well if they are starting to eat away at your recruiting base, and you guys have a new coach, maybe you should be worried.

our recruiting base in ND/MN the only places there is any overlap is Omaha/KC and Chicago. Plenty to go around.

I'm absolutely not worried. We should just call it "*peat"

I don't think you guys can continue to dominate FCS football without getting the players that you want. There may be enough to go around for parity or competitiveness but how can you dominate when Illinois state is out recruiting you head-to-head?

Recruiting isn't automatic.

Indiana St should prove that. How in the world was Trent Miles possibly able to recruit players to that non-program that allowed them to actually be in contention for the MVFC??? Such a thing should be impossible. Yet he was able to utter some magical combination of words that convinced talented young men to play there, in a terrible stadium, with terrible practice facilities at a program that was known for losing almost every game.

But they went there.

NDSU signed 4 players reportedly offered by Illinois St:
1) Marcus Collins, 6-4, 205, TE, Madison, WI
2) Easton Stick, 6-2, 205, QB, Omaha, NE
3) Greg Menard, 6-2, 225, DE, Lakeville, MN
4) Isaac Cenescar, 5-11, 175, DB, Orlando, FL

Illinois St signed 1 player reportedly offered by NDSU:
1) Alec Kocour, 6-0, 185, S, Waukesha, WI

I've heard it is true that NDSU coaches recruited Kocour hard and lost but if there's any domination head-to-head it was by NDSU. It is true that Illinois St had a few guys verbal to them that ended up at Wyoming that NDSU had offered but whether or not those NDSU offers were driven by the previous NDSU coaches now at Wyoming or the remaining staff at NDSU is anyone's guess and I wouldn't read much into it since those guys are suiting up for Wyoming anyway.

I'm pretty sure every MVFC team has a talented signing day class, the key is 1) retaining them and 1a) developing them. I think any kid who's good enough to earn a D1 scholarship, or a partial D1 scholarship, is good enough to be a contributor on a MVFC team if he works hard and sticks it out. Retention leads to competition and competition leads to excellence on the field. IMO, the single most important metric for any recruiting class is the retention ratio by their redshirt junior/true senior seasons. Regardless of whether they've all contributed by then as long as they're still there they provide the level of competition in practice that FCS teams need to become elite on game days.

Here is the link to short video highlights of SDSU's class, if interested: http://vimeo.com/86069345

The guys that I'm most excited about are (in order on video) Little, Bondon, Hassell, Scott, Slade, Brown, Carr, Lindsey & Romenesko.

Defensively, I think this is our best class ever (on paper, obviously) from a talent/speed/athleticism standpoint. Offensively, uh, not real impressed with the skill positions or TE's. Our OL lpositiom ooks decent and Little (QB) and Slade (RB) really stand out.

Missouri State, since it hasn't been posted yet. Red font are the 'stars' of the class. I'm surprised we were able to get such a solid class considering the lame duck status of Terry Allen.

Blayne Armstrong (QB, 6-4, 205, Fr., Marshfield, Mo., Marshfield High)
Armstrong was a 2013 all-state honoree, as well as a three-time All-Central Ozarks Conference and all-district selection for coach Nick Codutti at Marshfield High. He passed for 3,172 yards and 33 touchdowns, while rushing for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.

Sean Bernard (ILB, 6-2, 220, Fr., Wichita, Kan., North High)
Bernard capped a standout senior season with a first-team Kansas 6A all-state selection for coach Joe Belden at Wichita North High. An inside linebacker, Bernard was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl, leading North with 90 tackles as a sophomore before injuries shortened each of his final two prep campaigns. A multi-sport athlete, Bernard is also a two-year starting forward for North in basketball.

Jared Beshore (S, 5-11, 180, Fr., Lamar, Mo., Lamar High)
Projected as a defensive back at the college level, Beshore played a key role in Lamar High's three consecutive state championships. A four-time all-state selection, Beshore excelled on both sides of the ball for coach Scott Bailey, racking up 118 tackles and seven interceptions as a senior, while rushing for 1,458 yards and 26 touchdowns. The four-time all-district pick finished his prep career with 23 interceptions, 4,920 rushing yards and 88 total touchdowns.

Tre Betts (DB, 5-11, 190, Fr., Sand Springs, Okla., Charles Page High)

A two-time academic all-conference selection, Betts finished his career with a 184 Tackles and 10 interceptions, as well as 1,392 all-purpose yards.

Willis Chambers III (WR, 6-4, 195, Fr., Dallas, Texas, First Baptist Academy)
Chambers was an all-district and all-state selection as a defensive end/wide receiver for coach Jason Lovvorn at First Baptist Academy in Dallas. Helped the Saints to a perfect 14-0 mark and a TAPPS Division III state title as a senior in 2013, totaling eight touchdown receptions, as well as 100 tackles, 10 sacks and four defensive TD's. Named Offensive MVP of the Tom Hillary All-Star Football Classic.

Wow

Both SIU and MSU have really found some 'beef' on the OL and DL. Man, these kids keep getting bigger and bigger.

And, I think the trend is also that MVFC teams are trying to recruit much taller OL---guys like Ben Bailey for SIU. Bailey is only 245 but has great talent and is 6'6" (his brother signed with University of Missouri). They'll red-shirt Bailey and have him up to 300 plus by the time he's a Soph.

Looks like we just picked up two more commits....a corner out of Greensboro, NC and a S out of FL. Pretty sure we have never had a player out of NC before. Both look to be nice gets, very impressive athleticism and good size. Kid out of NC is Malick Scott, 6'1" 175 4.5 forty and the kid out of FL is Jaylaan Wimbush, 5'11" 170. One year with Kramer our strength coach and these boys will right where they need to be weight wise unless they switch positions.

I think they just did.
Man your math sucks. We went head to head with them on 5-6 guys and got 4-5 of them. They got one guy that we went after. How do you consider that losing to them when we win at least 80% of the recruiting battles against them.
