This year marks the 105th meeting between Montana and Montana State. I've heard it's the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi at ANY level.

Any arguments?

I thought we were up to 106 meetings for this year. The 100th meeting was in 2000, so add 6 more years to that for 106. :hurray:

This year is the 109th Big Game between Cal and Stanford. First game March (huh?) 1892. Stanford leads series 54-43-11

As much as I love Griz-Cat, it can't be the oldest.

The Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State is the seventh longest running rivalry in the nation and the oldest on the west coast. This year will be the 110th. It was first played in 1894.

As for the oldest west of the Mighty Miss I have no idea but I imagine the Civil War is in the running with the Brawl of the Wild close behind.

The Utah-BYU rivalry, dubbed the Holy War, according to Utah, started in 1896. Many years of not playing each other in the early 20th century leads to only 87/81 games played.

I've often thought it nutty that the "Civil War" is decided in Oregon.

It is not the oldest rivalry, it is the longest rivalry in terms of consecutive years played. I could be wrong, but recall hearing that last year or in 04. In 1AA historians here?

I don't know where these schools are located but the longest rivelry is:

Lafayette vs. Lehigh
"The Game"
Series Record: Lafayette leads 73-62-5 (2004)
Notes: This is the most-played rivalry in college football history.
