Today's World Cancer Day, and February is National Cancer Awareness Month..

If you've been thinking about joining the fight against cancer, now's not a bad time to do it...

If you're an innovator or an entrepreneur, LiveSTRONG is kicking off it's inaugural Big C Competition, with prizes going to those innovators who come up with the best ideas to help cancer patients and survivors in their daily struggles...

You can read more about it, here:

This year, I'll be doing the 24 Hours of Booty rides again, as well as various events in the LiveSTRONG Challenge series...If any of you happen to ride a bike and you're interested in the 24HOB, which is held in Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; Columbia, MD; and Indianapolis, IN, let me know and I can get you signed up....There are at least two 24HOB team captains represented on this board...It's a great time, it's transformative, even and an incredibly worthy cause. If riding's not your thing, but you like to run, there are SEVERAL events in the LiveSTRONG Challenge series....there are even things like Ultimate Frisbee, if you're a fan thereof....

This year, I had originally intended focus more on growing my business and I'd decided to take a lower fundraising profile, since I've signed on with the LiveSTRONG Foundation as one of their 238 LS Leaders, worldwide, and will be doing a lot of grass roots local events to raise awareness and funds....But, in the last few weeks a few things happened that have changed my plans... The incredibly strong lady who first inspired me to ride to raise money, Ann Hartline, lost her battle with cancer last week in Asheville, NC.....Also, my good friend Derrick Batiste, a former All SLC defensive back for my beloved McNeese Cowboys also lost his battle with cancer in December. Derrick played for Jacksonville and Oakland in the USFL. He was one of the toughest sumbitches ever...At McNeese, he was in the same defensive backfield with Leonard Smith, later an All Pro with Buffalo. Derrick was small, only about 5'9 and 165, but he was pound for pound the hardest hitter I've ever seen. I'd much rather have had to try to block Smith, the future All Pro, than tangle with little ole Derrick who had a nasty habit of knocking out 250 lb tight ends back in the day...but I digress....If Cancer can take somebody that ****ing tough, it's time to double down and focus on killing it...

I'll probably annoy the crap out of people with incessant fundraising posts, and I apologize in advance for that...but...sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...

Here's a few videos if you guys are interested...

Derrick, sealing a Jacksonville win over Birmingham in 1985 with Keith Jackson providing the play by play...

And, here are some videos of my friend, Ann.....during long struggle with breast, brain, lung and liver cancer....She's one tough sumbitch too! I woulda been in the corner in the fetal position if I'd had her diagnoses....

This is what toughness looks like...

Gotta love a chick who sings Merle Haggard...
