I wouldn't read too much into it, as athletic directors don't chart institutional direction on athletics as they might have.

In 2005, Georgetown hired an AD who was the asst. AD in charge of football at Notre Dame. Did it change the trajectory of Georgetown football? No.

In 2010, Georgetown then hired an AD from a mid-major (Cleveland State) which had reduced its emphasis on basketball. Did it signal a deemphasis on Georgetown basketball? No.

Holy Cross will go as far (or as near) as Rev. Boroughs and the trustees want to go, not merely where an AD wants to tread.

Completely agree DFW, HC is a very top-down driven institution.

It's an interesting hire though. Pine comes from very much a BCS background and is the first real "non-HC guy" the school was ever put in that position.

Am I expecting him to announce: "At long last, HC is in the Big East???" No, but it will be interesting to hear his initial thoughts on where he thinks HC athletics are headed in the future.

He did make mention of Femovich in a positive manner, so so far, it's not looking good for the anti-PL faction at HC.

A third straight 9-loss season will put him on the hotseat more than any incoming AD would.

Holy Cross AD should have one mission and one mission only at this point - win the PL basketball tourney, get to the Dance and win a game or two against a marquee opponent. Football simply is going to have to see what scholarships bear before making drastic changes.

He's been pretty successful as both a marketing guy and an Assistant AD at Maryland the last few years.

It'll be very interesting to see what a guy with this type of background (flashy biz/marketing whiz-kid) will have at staid old Holy Cross.

His resume seems more business/marketing oriented...not the ol' coach kicked upstairs into retirement. Maybe with the football schollies, HC sees some potential for scheduling 'up' and marketing the program. Fitton is a great stadium, but depressing with so many empty seats...on the home side.
