Westbrooks should be first team over Wise or McCladdie. Folks will see why soon because the NFL loves this kid. He's been shutting down people all year. He lit up WCU and since then nobody has tried to test him much. I watched his Furman tape and they didn't throw his way one time. App State and several others stayed away from him. Westbrooks is the real deal. I'd put him on my All-America list. He's a top 5-7 CB in FCS.

I also think Dozier, Truss, or Summerlin should have been the OFF POY. Huesman was good and should be the preseason pick next year but he led a team that tanked and didn't make the playoffs.

Kendall Lamm should have been second-team as well.

Those are the only three major things I would disagree with from coaches.

Media gave the POY awards to the person I would have as well. Tull is the clear cut preseason pick for next year while Huesman should be as well. I just like the Samford kids for them this year. After looking over the names Dozier is the clear cut best OL in the league. He should have been OFF POY but I know that OL never get that honor.

Interesting...the Coaches picked the "coaches kid" as the Offensive Player of the Year. I wish I could find some of the old thread in here where other fans were trashing Huesman for playing his son. Particularly the one's that were comparing it to Paul Hamilton starting his son at Elon.

I am actually glad the coaches and media split on the Defensive Player of the Year...Shade and Tull were both deserving and statistically hard to separate.

And while I like Huesman as coach of the year...I think Fowler definitely deserved it...Huesman had a team that was supposed to be near the top, while Fowler delivered late while arguably sitting on a seat that was starting to get warm.

he led a team that tanked and didn't make the playoffs.

Please explain to me how Chattanooga "tanked"...they were a missed a field goal in OT on the road that kept them from being outright SoCon Champions.

ASU tanked. GSU tanked...they were picked 1st and 2nd and finished tied for 4th. Chattanooga was picked 3rd or 4th in the pre-season and ended up tied for 1st.

I disagree with the coaches on Huesman as COY, as I think Fowler deserved it--and it wasn't close. I also think the coaches messed up by not putting Marcus Cox on the first team. All-in-all though, it's mostly right for both media and coaches.

Fowler as coach of the year is a no-brainer. He took a 3-8 team that was picked 7th preseason to a SoCon title, a playoff berth, and six straight SoCon victories. Hard to really even make a cogent argument for anyone else being considered, really.

Hard to pick a lineman as offensive POY, but Dozier would have been a good choice. No other player in the conference is as dominant at his position as Big #78.

I really can't complain about the list from a Wofford perspective. Tarek Odom being first team all conference was a long time coming. He's a monster.

Maybe use a better word than tanked. How about blew the league crown? Chattanooga had the league in their grasp and should have been in the playoffs along with Samford this year. They lost to Samford in overtime when the league title and playoff birth were theirs. UTC was a top 25 caliber team this year and they have talent. They did not achieve what they should have. I believe Chattown said you guys would run the league and be in the playoffs. You did not. Luckily App was pretty bad or else you would have been 7-5. I picked you to go 7-5 or 8-4 and miss the playoffs, which you did just that. That's all I mean. I said in the preseason it was your year. Luckily you got good play out of some young players so Key, Wise, and Dothard won't be as bad of losses as it appeared coming into the year. UTC should be in the top 2 in the league next year for sure and to me you guys have the most talent on paper, of all SoCon teams.

By the way, have you seen your schedule on your website? Lists you guys with a "W" against Alabama. Major error there lol

For me it's the best offensive player and Huesman, Cox, McKinnon, etc all did not have a better year than Dozier. I watched the LSU tape and if anyone thinks their player could have dominated like Dozier did in that game (against the highest level of competition in college football) they are crazy. Dozier almost pitched a complete shutout. He gave up no sacks and had about 10 knockdown blocks. Guarantee you he will go to the Senior Bowl and be a top 100 pick.

I certainly think an argument could be made for Dozier for OPY as no QB, RB, or WR was truly dominate in the SoCon.

Any coach who doesn't make the playoffs two years running with the amount of talent UTC has had is not deserving of CoY honors, IMHO.

I think the media poll got it right.

I think you should of just stuck with saying they tanked, your longer explanation makes even less sense.

One minute you are saying they didn't achieve what they should have, then you are say that you picked them to go 7-5 or 8-4 and miss the playoffs...then you say that you said in the pre-season that it was their year. You're making me dizzy.

Of course, most of your credibility immediately went out the window when you mentioned anything Chattown said.

(Ironically, that is what frustrates me the most about Chattown, after all of his ranting and raving and general non-stop idiocy on this board, no one can really make a neutral opinion about the team)

BTW, I picked the Mocs 8-4 also because I am a realist...the only picks I got wrong was the UTM loss/ASU win. But I did think that they would still make the playoffs because that would normally be enough in the SoCon...Chattanooga can't help it if the whole league pretty much sucked in the OOC parts of their schedules. Outside of Florida, there really wasn't a quality win for anyone in the SoCon.

Chattown got on here and talked about how great you guys were going to be. You had the most players on the preseason All-SoCon teams and we heard all of this hype about how great the team was going to be. UTC was good but like someone else said, they had all that talent and should have won the autobid but did not. The Samford game was a game that could have turned the point for UTC and made you a program who was taking that next step. You had a tough game and lost it.

Sorry, I'm just mentioning Chattown because he is the one posting on here and all we heard was the hype. I have nothing against UTC and don't pull against them but it's just funny hearing some fans who basically spout random crazy things and then disappear for months. I'm truly hoping he does it for kicks and not because he believes it.

Even without mentioning him you guys still should have done a little bit better. The only reason I picked you 7-5 or 8-4 was because of the fact I don't think Huesman is a great coach. He recruits well but he underachieves. I believe if you had the Wofford coaching staff at UTC they would have gotten more out of your players and won the league outright this year.

I'm with you. I think Fowler earned it with the slow start and turning them around like he did. What he managed to do was amazing with what is clearly a much less talented Furman team than we have seen about 5 plus years ago.

You never know how kids will progress or regress from year to year, but I noticed that as well. Hopefully they continue to improve and get better and the Cats make a play to climb the SoCon standings.

It would be great to see you guys get out of that basement. It looks like you have some young talent and I think Speir is going to at least make you a solid 3rd or 4th place team with a chance to compete. I hope the administration gives him at least two more years to see progression. It would be good for the SoCon if in the next couple years WCU and Citadel make the playoffs. With App and GSU gone it should open it up for some more parity. Those two have run that league for so long so now is the chance for others to make that push and challenge Wofford and Furman. Samford has already done so and now hopefully UTC gets over that hump a couple of times and you guys do as well.

I think they got Dozier right with the Jacobs blocking trophy he could have been the OPY. I feel like there were two other very deserving linemen that should have been included from Furman Charles Emert and Joe Turner. Check out the video of any game and you will see both these guys clearing the road.
O-linemen get ripped off when it comes to awards due to a lack of statistics to rate them like other positions. Conferences like the SOCON ignore O-linemen during the year. They give a weekly offensive player award which is always a back or receiver, a special teams award which will be a kicker or returner, and a defensive award which is based on tackles of interceptions. Where is the love and recognition for the o-line which is 5 of the 11 players on offense?

The sentence I bolded. That's what I'm trying to get across to everyone on here. True evaluators such as coaches, NFL scouts (and don't be fooled these internet hacks who have scout in their twitter bio are full of it and not a scout), etc don't need stats because they know what a good football player is. While all tackles and sacks are created equal in the boxscore they aren't all the same when watching tape. You have to know what you are looking at. I do think Turner should have been All-SoCon but I would have put him on the second team. Coaches can be political but when they are scouting the level below them for talent they usually do a pretty good job. Just because someone leads their conference in tackles doesn't mean they are the best defender or even that great of a player. I have seen a lot of players who I would not ever put on a All-America team who had gaudy stats. I firmly believe there are some who do the stats and make a ton of mistakes because there are players who I have seen with 20 TFLs on their name but I don't see how unless they had 10 in a game I never saw. I remember one time seeing a game where a player was given 1.5 sacks and neither was a sack. The boxscore has errors sometimes.
