Those outside the CAA may not be aware of how the WM defense has been taking over games in recent weeks. WM has the top scoring defense in all of FCS on the season at 12.2 ppg. Here are the stats through 10 games:

Total yards allowed: 295 ypg (103 rush, 192 pass)
+ 7 TO margin
3rd down conversion: 30 %

WM has beaten three ranked opponents in three weeks. Over that three game span the WM defense has scored 14 points and surrendered 10 points (excluding a KO return for TD). Including the special teams TD, WM's defense has allowed 5.6 ppg to three teams averaging more than 30 ppg coming into the contest.

Here are the stats for the past three games against JMU,UNH, and UD:

Total yards allowed: 278 ypg (52 rush, 226 pass)
Forced 7 turnovers, scored two TDs, blocked a fg
Have not allowed a TD in over ten quarters

Offense is improving too. Big game this week against Towson. A win should lock in a playoff at-large birth.

With Maine appearing to struggle the past two weeks. W&M may be the best team in the CAA right now. Will be a fun game to watch against Towson.

Shutting out UNH for the 1st time since 1995 is amazing on its own. W&M is a good team and deserves a playoff spot.

A UD poster stated, "If W&M had a better QB, they'd play in Frisco next month."

Interesting.

Maine beat the brakes off W&M. The Black Bears may have underperformed the past two weeks but they are still the best team in the CAA. "0" in the CAA loss column is the only stat that matters.

The D has truly been awesome. it takes us back to the 2009 team that made the semifinals or the 1995 team that was the last to shut out UNH. Trademark of both teams was D..........

Think if Caprio can stay healthy and continue to get reps that he will gain more confidence. He has had a couple bad throws on out patterns that were almost pic 6 once in each of last two games but his long throws are on target and have produced great results. Coach is happy with his decisions and receivers are killing it. McBride catch yesterday where he kicked the ball to himself in the endzone and then catch it for the TD is unbelievable!!

Both give up 12.2 points/game.

It's close but if you go out to the hundredths, W&M is slightly ahead. Either way, they are both extremely strong on D. NDSU is at 12.22 (110 pts in 9 games) and W&M is 12.20 (122 in 10 games). Interestingly enough, both have 8 Ints with 3 of the Ints being pick 6s. NDSU leads by a bunch in yards against per game.

3rd place is Bethune Cookman at 16.10 pts per game (161 pts in 10 games)

In FBS, Louisville, Bama, Michigan St. and FSU all have given up fewer points per game than those 2.

Just wanted to add what an outstanding unit they played like on Saturday afternoon/evening. A tough, stout bunch, that play like a real unit. They really took our lunch from us and made the UD offense (which can be quite good some weeks) look lost.

Nice to see a stout defense! xthumbsupx

I suspect UD wasn't THAT much better last season and W&M isn't THAT much better this season. Two programs struggling to find the dominance we shared in 2010.

UD remains one of the more knowlegeable fan bases in the FCS and classy, always, win or lose.

I think the Towson vs William and Mary game can be a blowout for William and Mary (not the way I picked it in the CAA thread). Towson's Offense is susceptible to the turnover, which a good defense can beat up. Giving up 12 points a game is not a lot of points and I look forward to seeing the game in person on Saturday.
