Nicholls State holds the Lions again on 3 consecutive downs. Southeastern punts and downs the ball inside the 10 only to have an illegal procedure call negate the play.

Lions kick again & Nicholls State will start at their own 32 yard line.

Can't wait to check out Nicholls and SELA games while I'm nearby in New Orleans...

Good luck to both squads! I'm very fortunate that I'll see Nicholls in Huntsville next week and then Southeastern in Hammond in November...

Definetly making the game next week huh? Good, buy your ticket early if you can. If the attendence is up from the first home game this year we could be looking at close to a sell out (wishful thinking I know).:rotateh:

Lucas is all over the SELA release...

LUCAS GRINDS OUT SECOND 100-YARD EFFORT
Southeastern running back Jay Lucas continues to impress after transferring from Texas A&M. A Baton Rouge product, Lucas, who already has two SLC Offensive POW award under his belt, nearly got another with his performance on Saturday. Lucas rushed for 115 yards on 20 carries in the Lions’ loss to Gardner-Webb for his second 100+ yard effort of the season. Lucas gained 125 yards on only nine carries against Jacksonville and had 96 at New Mexico State. Lucas is averaging 5.8 yards per carry and leads the league with 427 total yards rushing.

LUCAS ECLIPSES 100
When Jay Lucas eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in the first half against JU, it marked the first time a Lion runner turned the trick since Ray Perkins (now with the San Diego Chargers) ran up 134 yards on 21 carries, Nov. 20, 2004 against Gardner-Webb. Lucas’ 125-yard performance ranked 47th on the Lions’ all-time single-game rushing list. His 115 yards against GWU tied for 63rd in the all-time Lion annals.

(RUNNING) BACK TO BASICS
Southeastern head coach Dennis Roland has always preached that the best attack on offense is a balanced attack. And with the addition of two transfer running backs - Jay Lucas (Texas A&M) and Kendrick Perry (Ole Miss) - combined with leading returning rusher Mario Gilbert and Dremell Adams, the Lions have a loaded backfield for the first time to go along with their vaunted passing attack. Lucas leads the Lions and is second in the SLC averaging 85.4 yards per game. Three running backs, Lucas (5.8), Gilbert (7.3) and Adams (4.4) are averaging solid per carry numbers.

ENOUGH AIN’T ENOUGH
Some might be saying, “Enough is enough”, when discussing super sophomore running back Jay Lucas. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention at least one other factoid. Lucas also leads the Lions in receptions with 18 through five games and averages 23.6 yards receiving in addition to his 85 yards on the ground. We’re just anxiously awaiting his first 100-100 game.

ENOUGH AIN’T ENOUGH, part two
Last one, I promise. Lucas not only leads the Lions in rushing and receptions but is also the leader in all-purpose yards with 545 (109.0 pg). His total is good for third in the SLC and even more impressive is the fact that he is the only player among the top four to have no return yardage figured into his total....he’s also third in the league in scoring (5.2 pg).

Yeah I know....but there were no guarantees that it would pick up with that kind of intensity. I'm REALLY glad to see that it is! We hate McNeese and play them in the last game of the season every year....we play Northwestern in the NSU Challenge....and we play Texas State in the Battle for the Paddle...but none really seem like a TRUE rivalry game. I was in Hammond last year and it was a GREAT atmosphere. Sounds like that was also this case tonight! I look forward to MANY MANY MANY competitive matches between the 2 schools!
