View Full Version : Youngstown State @ Missouri State

September 25th, 2006, 06:00 PM
FYI: This game will be broadcasted live in Youngstown on WFMJ'S sister station: WBCB aka the new CW. We are going to be receiving the MSU Feed. Same thing UC-Davis did last week for the folks in Cali using Fox 17/62's signal.

Anyways.
This is the opening of Gateway Conf. action, a Conf. with 5 Teams in the Top 25..... That arguably makes the Gateway the best conference in I-AA at this point....

This game should not be that close. I don't think it will be an absolute blowout, but YSU will win it pretty handily.

Prediction: YSU 42
MSU: 14

While we do suck, i doubt it that you guys will win by that much...bad or good we do have 26 seniors who will not let it be that bad...and our defense has shown to be pretty good...

Well 26 seniors is a lot, but not the most in the Gateway. Your opponent Youngstown St. has 29 seniors, and so far they have lead them to a 3-1 record with double digit wins in all 3 games.

YSU wins this one with a solid 4 quarter performance.

I'm still waiting on the solid 4 qtrs of play from our "O". If this is the game it happens then we'll see 42+ to 17. Playing just half a game like we did in the 3 W's probably 24-17

The Defense is tight and has the Gateway/MVC on notice.

If the MSU Offense can execute, then we have a game.

YSU runs the ball, which is the strength of our defense.

What have any of you seen in YSU that would make you think we'd win by just 7 points, when we just beat a #16 team by 14.

I don't care where this game will be played.... YSU wins this one big.

and your run D is your strength? i'd be worried if my team's run D was the strength when it is ranked #7 in the gateway against the run allowing over 186 yards per game xidiotx

your D is just not that good... allowing over 350 yards per game.. yikes

uuh...38 points is dreaming...

MSU gave up 52 points to Oklahoma State 14, 16, 20 take away 52..do the math.

Comes out to an average of 16 points per game....

If you just want to pick...average the 52 and you still have average of 25 points per game

38 Points you ask?
YSU:
52 vs. Slippery Rock
34 vs. Maine
38 vs. UC-Davis

And Maine and UC-Davis is a lot better than Missouri State, just look at the wins and losses to see that.

YSU wins 42-14.

Ok we shall see... Its not like MSU is a tough environment like YSU is.. We scored 45 on Indiana St. last year on the road; who's to say we couldn't do that on MSU.

I've been within 6 on every single one of my predictions this year:
42-14 Penguins!

My prediction is basd on the fact that you guys are 1-3 with your lone win against SW Baptist... that you have surrendered over 300+ yards in all of your games... that YSU just put up 30+ on UC-D who was a ranked team that is pretty darn good...

you claimed that your run D is your strength and YSU's run O is their strength... well, I'll take them since you guys let up over 180+ yards on the ground per game... so I really don't care that your "I'll take our best 3 games" average come out to 16 [1 of those 3 is against an awful D-II opponent]... it's more of a fact that YSU is hands down the better team in this matchup and one of the best in the conference, that MSU has been awful the last few years, and that MSU seems to be pretty bad this year and will likely be in the cellar along with InSU. 38 points is not dreaming when the team you're about to play has put up 34+ on DI-AA opponents this season. Against I-AA opponents you have scored a paltry 14 & 17 points.. so i was being generous giving you guys 17...

On top of all of that, their D is good too and your O just ain't... so maybe, just maybe 38 of the point I predict them scoring can be scored on defense or special teams even... so call a waaaaaaaaahmbulance if you have a problem with my prediction...

I don't know why you're so surprised that a bunch of MSU fans don't have any earthly idea what they're talking about. I've been surrounded by that fact for years. Then again, there are also a lot of people around here who have really thin skins when faced with the fact that someone thinks that their clad-in-stone predictions might be wrong. Lesson for the day--life is hard. Wear a helmet.

Focusing on how you played in your last game against UC Davis does NOT suggest that you will do the same against MSU. Lets be 'real' here.

I gave you the allowed points per game average which is well under your 'prediction' and now you start ranting about how many points we scored.

We already know we have'nt scored any points, tell us something we dont know.

What we do know, is that the MSU Offensive execution has room for improvement, which your little crystal ball cant predict.

Its the 'unknown' factor that makes the difference.

honestly, this is the most useless and pointless post i have ever read ever... you say how YSU played in their previous games is not a predictor to how they will play against you, but then you go on to say that how you guys played against Little Sisters of the Blind [from the game against a D-II school that has yet to win] and that you allowed less than 38 points... i don't get how YSU's [not my team, I'm a ILSU Redbird fan] past games can't help predict an outcome but yours can... and i guess you missed my rant about your weak D that you consider strong..

based on the fact that you guys haven't scored points, i would say that YSU has the oppotunity to have the ball a lot and to score a bunch of points which they have against each I-AA team they have played.

and your right, i cannot predict the MSU offensive explosion that is just waiting to happen, but i can predict that it won't happen, especially against YSU or any other ranked conference opponent.

I should have just listened to Nyghtewynd and not even responded... but MSULB#47 is just so rediculous i couldn't help myself... especially when he said let's be real... please, be real next time!

your right, my YSU 38 prediction is uneducated... they could easily score over 50 while xcoffeex

I think its funny how MSU fan are arguing with people about them winning the game. I will be at the MSU game. Mizzou has a great football stadium. Besides Penn State it will be the best trip YSU will take all year. In my mind Mizzu State has the 2nd best stadium in the Gateway. Good like MSU i look forward to making another trip to Mizzou

I'm not sure reality has set in yet at MSU. For years you recruited Jucos and we had better Frosh and Soph than them .It has been a mis-match for a long time. It will take years of excellent recruiting for you to turn it around with the new coach. Its still takes talent, not just coaching.

You are at the bottom with Ind. St. because the program has not been good. And this year will be a repeat again.

Just be thankful that our coach ( and I don't like him) pulls the dogs off, often too early. Then everyone wonders why we didn't win bigger. Had he left them in over the years you would no doubt KNOW why you have no chance right now.

Some of the MSU comebacks to the YSU Winners predictions are hilarious.

How the hell is your run defense your strength? if that is true, and we just popped 200 on UC-davis running the ball, and they are legit against the run, we can easily see 400 on you guys.

This won't be close.. No chance YSU loses this, they know this year they must play near perfect on the road to make the playoffs. 2-3 will be unacceptable. We need to get to 4-1 and then move from there.

42-14 YSU wins, will not be surprised one bit if its worse.

I live in Northern California I grewup here in Northern California, I dont recall reading anything regarding UC Davis football.

Now give us some YSU players we can watch in this upcoming fray with MSU

Who are the difference makers?

I saw the game against Penn, offense is pretty basic, I-Formation or Set...lead blocker #35 and #5 follows. #5 runs strong

Anything else you want us to know?

I could'nt get a good read on the Defense

QB Tom Zetts: 3 Year Starting QB
TB Marcus Mason: Transferred from Big 10 Illinois. Has rushed for 1,199 in a Red and Black Jersey.
TB Mo. Gibson: Transferred from SEC? Kentucky: Has been a great backup to Mason... To me he is faster than Mason, but Mason has better cuts which allows him to hit the holes.
TE Louis Irizarry: Transferred from Big 10 Ohio State. Has 8 catches for 98 yards.. Has yet to be stopped.

There is quite a few more who aren't transfers who are doing very well...... Which you will see.

How can you guys predict you can win when you just loss to Sam Houston St..... nothing against SHU, but they are no YSU...

Good Defense or not, you have had a horrible offense. YSU Wins 42-14.

Haha Nice one. I mean is this MSU-LB serious? His arguments are that of a 8th grader. Who throws out stats which show MSU in the bottom 3 in almost every single category.

And again who cares if they have the edge vs. us in a few categories. Last time I checked we were 3-1 and had 72 points vs. I-AA teams which are in the Top 30 [Maine | UC-Davis]; while MSU is 1-3 and have scored just 31 points in 2 I-AA games... the opponents are like night and day.

Wow Fly, you are a humble man:rolleyes: This one is getting close to being put onto the Smack board with your comments.

I heard from a reliable source that YSU's top 2 backs Q Gibson (toe) & Marcus Mason (hammy) will not play Saturday. Look for Justin Reams and Nicholson to share the load. Mason reaggravated his hammy in practice this week. Gibson is having trouble just walking

Also banged up is YSU's best cover corner Codera Jackson (hand)

Your asking me if I am serious, look at their comments... I sure hope that Mason and Gibson aren't out. I was told Gibson was most likely probable for this week. I did not know anything about Mason...

And btw: I really don't care if this goes to the smack board or not. As you can see I really do not care if it does, I am going to defend YSU. Sure I will say I go overboards at times, but I do it because the opposing fans are going overboard.

YSU on paper should win their next two, but after that it's a killer schedule for them. IMO they can only lose one more game if they want the GFC title and a playoff berth

Sat. Oct. 21 Northern Iowa* (HC) Stambaugh Stadium 4 p.m.

First and foremost, I by no stretch of the imagination think this team is the best school in the land, but I have said I believe you could put them up with the best in the land. New Hampshire--App State--Illinois State deserves the rankings they've received....

Secondly, UNI is a very tough football team and has won the last 5 vs. YSU. If YSU does what they HAVE THE ABILITY To do, this will be a great game at Stambaugh, where the Guins have won 10 in a row, or is it 9. I digress, I am not going to jump on the UNI-Sucks Train because I know they don't.

----just look at last year, they started out very slow, and look how they finished the year, they will gel again this year and be a force in the very tough Gateway race.

I do want to say something to Skinny_Uncle... SIU is scaring the crap out of me this year. They already won in D1A Land, and can easily go undefeated this season. I think they are very underrated.

The good thing for Penguins fans is this our last home game, 2nd to last game of the year for us.... Good thing we don't have you early on, you guys are scary good...

We won't go undefeated... noone will in the Gateway. The win of IU affords SIU another Loss it didn't expect to have We could easily lose 3 games go 8-3 and miss the playoffs IF the team starts to read the hype and believe it. I just hope Coach Kill keeps their heads level.

I don't think mere words can adequately express how ridiculous it is for this thread to consist of ELEVEN FREAKING PAGES two days before the game. You'd think that this was a real rivalry, like Bears/Packers or Lions/Christians or something.

If you want to read my true thoughts close to my heart, then read my blog. Its that simple..

How the sam hell did we go overboard by saying we dont think you will blow us out by the 40 points that you are predicting. You're the one that went overboard by saying things like "Screw MSU."

Makes sense, UNI loess to a division 2 school on their own home field, and to Cap that isn't humiliation? YSU loess a road conference game but that is? YSU loess a conference road game a deserves to drop out of the top 20??? wow YOU LOST TO A D-2!!!!!! AT HOME

Last time UNI lost to a D-II at home we went on the road the next week to Kansas State and took down the Wildcats. And whoever posted about Terry Allen not being John Heacock? Dumb azzed comment. TA remains the greatest coach in Gateway history with 7 straight GFC titles while at UNI. Mark Farley is continuing the tradition of Panther excellence. YSU is in for a dogfight at MSU. If you think otherwise, you're in for a surprise. Better be loaded for Bear cause the beebies you used against mighty Slippery Rock ain't gonna cut it.

Hey everyone... Back after a long day of work and high school football! Anyways I was reading this and I did notice I said Screw MSU; and that I do apologize for that, once again I didn't think before I was posting, that is something which will change.

I will stick with my 42-14 prediction, but from what I've read and heard, Mason and Q will be playing on Saturday... I could be wrong, but you would think one of the news stations would've mentioned it if he wasn't going to play... If they play, my prediction could very well come true.

YSU is a 17 point favorite in Vegas.

Fly,

Since many people on this board are politically correct, I will not be by informing you that.................

You are a complete idiot and you are delusional. Why do you talk so much trash? Are you a teenager?

You are the reason that other people on the board hate YSU fans.

Obviously, you are not old enough to know the good reputation that YSU fans have. You insight hate from other fans.

Why do you talk so much trash? All you do is give lockerroom material to other teams, which makes the Bullseye bigger.

YSU has a decent team this year, as they did last year. Obviously, YSU has improved from last year, but not by as much as you think.

YSU struggled against Cal Davis in the second half. YSU had only 53 Yrd of total offense. The defense had to save their a$$.

Quit acting like an idiot. I hold you responsible for the "I hate YSU" thread on the board. I hope that you are proud of that.

Just shut up and give others the respect that they deserve. There is a reason that the games are played.........to find out who is better on the field...........wait until you see the score before you start talking trash. You never know when you may be in for a big suprise.

FlyYtown

Listen I do give respect where it is deserved. As of this point I think we are underdogs in 3 of the final 7 games. I know we aren't the best, I know we have injuries, I know I've made YSU fans looks like asses on this site, and once again I did not mean to do that.

The reason I've acted liked this is mainly because of us not making the playoffs last year. I really am a class act on many message boards I am on, which is not many, but I just have a bad taste in my mouth since last year.

I know damn right the Gateway is the toughest division in the land and that will lead to many upsets.

Once again I apologize for making Penguin fans some of the worst on this site, by no stretch of the imagination did I plan on doing it.

I will clean my act up and I hope everyone accepts my apology. I am not a teenager, that was back in the 90s... I don't mean to talk trash and compared to last year, my trash talk has deminished. I really would just like YSU to win, but I do predictions for fun. 42-14 Penguins.

SORRY AGAIN.

And now the game's started, and no one's posting anything.

6-3 YSU late in the first--MSU's first drive ended in a 27-yard FG, YSU scored a 5-yard TD run and missed the XP, and the next MSU possession ended in a Congdon INT. I sure am glad last week's game convinced Allen to start Krapfl. JUST PICK A GUY AND GET IT OVER WITH ALREADY.

End of the first, 6-3 YSU.

Nyghtewynd
September 30th, 2006, 06:37 PM
Update: Apparently Krapfl hurt his ankle in the previous series, bringing on the Congdon INT. No word on whether he will return.

Nyghtewynd
September 30th, 2006, 06:50 PM
The two teams exchange possessions, both via punts, and MSU QB Krapfl joins the act with another INT, again into double coverage. YSU has the ball around the MSU 35, but the Bears defense has performed admirably to this point.

Nyghtewynd
September 30th, 2006, 06:55 PM

Bears go 3-and-out, but a HUGE punt backs up YSU to their own 4, and the Bears regain the ball on a punt. Late in the second, still 9-3 YSU, but the Bears are inside the YSU 20...

Like previously stated, we have this game here in Youngstown Live from the MSU FEED. From what I've seen so far is YSU gets a drive started and can't finish it off; which they must fix.

They are also allowing too many yards on First Down on the ground and MSU is taking advantage of it.

And finally on kick returns, we are missing too many tackles.

We need to fix those things and hopefully our offense gets its act together. Too bad we missed an XP. Good Game as is the surprising score at the Iowa St. game.

Yes the Bears did show up for the first 30 minutes. And judging by what I saw from the Penguins in the first half, it appeared they came in with the attitude of blowing this team out; and it showed. Their lack of respect for the Bears caused them to be down at half 10-9. You can bet that they got an earful during that 25 minute half. I think they now know what it means to respect programs that are not up to par with them.

Good Luck MSU..

MSU picked up where they left off in the 1st half, momentum on their side. First 2nd half YSU series was shutdown, YSU was pushed back to the 14 and forced to punt.

Running into the kicker penalty took the wind out of the sails. MSU never bounced back after that penalty.

MSU needs to learn how to win.

Saving grace, is that EVERY team will lose at least ONE conference game in the Gateway.

Its NOT over, its just begun!
